Cattleya Orchids
By: guest1266 Date: February 3, 2015, 5:51 pm

The coffee shop had many missing overhead lights, causing the
restaurant in Rome to be dimly lit. It was near to closing hour
so business was rather slow. A woman with long braided hair
worked behind the counter, cleaning empty coffee cups and
miscellaneous utensils. Her bright blue eyes were hidden behind
long lashes as she peered down at her work. The bubbles in the
sink overflowed every now and then when she moved too quickly.
Why Thalia was working at a mortal coffee shop when she had
plenty of money, was beyond her. Mainly, it was to soothe her
loneliness and pass the time which she had limitless amounts of.
Also, there were times that she had had the pleasure of messing
with some of the mortals that came into the lion's den
unknowingly.
After the dishes were finished, she wiped her hands on the apron
she wore around her waist, then she took some money from a man
at the register. Once he had left, she took a moment and sat
down with a cup of coffee sitting between her hands in order to
warm them up.
Thalia yawned and checked her wristwatch. Thirty minutes to kill
until closing time and then she would probably go back to her
apartment and 'enjoy' the silence there.

Rome... An interesting place to turn up. Tempest haven't spent
much time outside of her home; a lush clearing surrounded by
lakes, steams, trees, and mountains. This city wasn't knew to
her, for Tempest had found her way through various cities in her
life time. Dressed in form fitting grey jeans, a grey tank top
with a panther printed on the front, all covered up by a trench
coat and hat. The coat was more draped on her than on her.
Tempest's white hair still spilled out of her coverings as she
entered the random shop along the road's corner. Her caramel
skin glistened under the dim lights of the shoppe; lights that
happen to flicker as if coming to life as she passed. Blue eyes
peered around, surveying the area as she made her way to the
empty counter. It was odd for a place like this to not have
anyone at the counter this late in the evening. Maybe they were
closing up and Tempest was late? Checking the time, the dark
woman figured out she had at least ten minutes to spare.

The door of the restaurant gave a subtle chime, letting the
waitress know that a customer had entered. Thalia shuffled
through the storage boxes in the backroom and struggled against
them and the dim light to make it into the dining area. In her
spare time, the woman tried her best to organize the restaurant,
but it was a daunting task.
When she finally appeared, her eyes darted to the digital clock
above the counter. The time was late and it surprised her that
someone would want anything this late. She was even more
surprised that it was an attractive woman who stood in front of
the counter. Usually, women did not venture out past a certain
hour due to prowling men seeking to take advantage of them.
Although, Thalia had little room to judge.
"Hello," she greeted, a bit too perky given the hour. "What can
I get you?"

Tempest was finding it harder and harder to fit into this mortal
world. She had grown into a world with majestic beats, gods,
goddesses, and everything in between with humans scattered
about. But now, she was the minority; a goddess among men. The
hardest thing to hide was her voice; her hair and eyes could
always be taken as altered, but one cannot change their voice
like that. Using her tongue to glide along her bottom lip and
having it rest upon the corner of her mouth in thought, Tempest
decided she was going to try something new.. "Creamy chocolate
hot coco.." Tempest said; the three voices sounding in unison. A
she got older, the voices became more subdued and only one stood
out, but the others could be heard if listened to closely.
Though, once powers are used, or she gets excited, the voices
would become more prominent.

Thalia smiled at the woman and gave a subtle nod at the request
of the beverage. As she made it, she hummed to herself. The tune
was ancient, but catchy. It had been catchy enough for her to
remember after a couple centuries, but evidently the words had
not been since she remembered very few of them. She shook a can
of whip cream before spraying some on top of the coco and
setting it down before the woman.
"It's on the house," she said, smiling.
Truth be told, she had accidentally locked herself out of the
blasted machine and didn't want to mess with it now. Checking
the time, she went over and locked the door to deter others from
coming in and then returned to behind the counter where she
started the tedious job of scrubbing off the counter.
"Where are you from?" she asked, having recognized the oddity in
the quality of the woman's voice and assumed it was simply an
accent.

There were plenty of seats around the coffee house open now, but
the most attractive seat was the one she was seated upon
currently. The shoppe was empty now and it was officially after
hours. Why the woman allowed Tempest to stay was a mystery, even
more so, why did she offer the drink for free? Did she think
that she was a bum? Tempest wasn't well off, especially in the
likes of the city, but she had the means to take care of herself
when she needed something. Shrugging it off while accepting the
woman's gesture of kindness with gratitude, Tempest uttered a
soft "Thank you.." Getting comfortable, Tempest removed her hat,
allowing the white hair to flow as it was intended. If one
looked hard enough, the white strands would seem to have this
smokey effect as if clouds rested atop her head. The blue eyes
were glued to the woman who served her as she went about her
rounds of cleaning; an interesting question left her peach lips.
'Where are you from?'. Heh.. Tempest thought as she blew the hot
mocha to cool it; frost building upon the edges of the cup.
"That obvious, huh?" She said with a laugh. She figured the skin
and eye color would give it away. Not exactly common upon these
people. "I am from few places, but reside everywhere.." She
said, her voices laced with mysticism. "But to make it more
tangible, I am from Maridia, but now reside in Isola Della
Tempesta... That is my home now.." Taking a sip of her java,
Tempest nodded. "I guess I could ask you the same thing... You
have this. . Energy about you that's not of the people here...
An alluring energy.."

Thalia smiled as she heard the women's laugh, but did not look
up as she continued to scrub the miscellaneous debris off of the
counter. Although, she didn't know where either of those places
were, she didn't pry, but simply nodded her head, accepting the
answer.
When the counter was finally cleaned, she threw the rag into a
bucket beside the register and untied the apron around her waist
and dispensed it into the bucket as well. Thalia turned her back
to the woman to retrieve a coffee cup from shelf above the sink.
Then, she poured some old coffee into it and scrunched her nose
at the coldness of it.
"I live here. Have for a couple years. I originated from Greece,
Rome, places like that," she replied, cryptically.
She then pulled up a bar stool with a wobbly leg and sat on it,
facing her behind the counter.
"I could say the same about you," she offered; the corner of her
lips giving a subtle quirk at the comment.

"Rome.."Tempest started as she reminisced her time in Rome. It
was short lived, but through her travels, she had visited most
places in the world and even other realms. "The weather is nice
there..." She chirped; lips spawning a grin after the words were
released from the thick tissues. It was much better to see the
woman sitting down and relaxing after what seemed like a long
day at work. She was always told that human's form of training
was working. It's what kept them going, what kept them from
losing themselves. They needed this work to create some value
-self worth-, just like training and getting more powerful was
for her. So, she understood her need to relax after her session.
After a few more quick sips of the drink, Tempest giggled at the
woman's comment. Feeling no need to be dressed like a creeper,
Tempest removed her coat, which revealed her short sleeved shirt
and muscular arms. One could tell that she was as fit as a
fiddle; not an average woman by the very least. "I get that a
lot. People notice my blue eyes, dark skin, white flowing hair,
and voice..." Taking a deep breath which caused the air in the
room to circulate -subtly-, Tempest smiled and finished her
drink. "Sometimes, Fate, works in different and crazy ways. You
never know what was being called of you, what the universe has
in store for you. Just have to keep your mind and spirit open.."
Tempest said, aqua eyes gazing into the orbs that Thalia
possessed. "The name is Tempest.." Introducing herself, Tempest
offered her hand to the woman who served her.

Brilliant emerald orbs between the woman's heavy-lashed lids
turned a shade darker as she listened to her dreamy reminiscing
of Rome's weather. Humans rationalized Thalia's dramatic eye
color change with the play of lighting or colored contacts.
Neither were correct of course, but their musing and inability
to accept such observations entertained her. Not that she wanted
to watch them writhe with confusion, but the truth would only
reveal her identity.
"I enjoyed it though, I detested those who inhabited the land.
Too suspicious and cruel," she replied thoughtfully.
Her gaze drifted down the woman's arms and back up to meet her
eyes with a coquettish grin plastered along her lips.
"I bet," she responded, still smiling, as if she knew something
the woman didn't.
Tightening her grasp on the cup, she took another sip of the
coffee as she listened. Replacing the cup back onto the counter,
she shrugged with her eyes downcast.
"I don't believe in Fate. Or at least in the sense that it
controls a person. I think we create our own fates, even if Fate
likes to toy with us at times," she said, softly.
"Temptest, " she repeated for memory's sake.
She grinned and looked back up.
"Well, Temptest, I believe we should leave," Thalia said,
grabbing the key to lock up and her leather jacket before going
over to the door.
"Would you like to accompany me downtown?" she asked. "I have a
feeling you would enjoy it."

"I agree... And to think, Rome was home to warriors. They have
become kittens in a world of lions.." Tempest said while taking
note of the woman's eye color ever so slightly diminishing and
becoming slightly darker. "Brighter eyes suit you better..."
Tempest complimented with a coy smile. If this was what the
people called flirting, she felt she was doing horrible at it.
To be honest, Tempest had never felt some pull of Fate toward
anyone before. But this woman; this random woman had stirred up
something In Tempest that she couldn't quite get understanding
of. Maybe it was the deep and mystical charm that the woman had,
or it could be something else... Who knows at this point. After
Thalia had spoke again; the soft simple utterance of two words
had left a startling silence between the two as if only looks
and body language told a side story to the one that was being
told aloud. The silence wasn't awkward, however, it was
comforting, causing the lips of Tempest to form into a smile.
However, that smile soon dwindled as the woman confessed she
doesn't believe in Fate. Which struck a cord with Tempest. Does
she strike the woman down to make a believer out of her? Does
she show her proof that such a thing exists forcefully? If this
was any other time, something like that would happen. But,
Tempest, over the past few years, have decided to try and live
outside of fighting. To live her life as normally as she could.
Being a goddess and growing up only with battle on the mind
doesn't mean that one can't find time of peace and quiet...
Right? "I wouldn't say Fate controls a person, more so the
options one has. Sometimes a plan is in place and your options
are limited in order for the plan to come together.." She
explained. The dim lights of the building becoming brighter as
if gaining more energy simply by her presence.
It was so cute how Thalia tried to say Tempest's name. It was
like her accent wouldn't allow her to say it correctly. She knew
that with time, the woman would get it down, but for now,
Tempest wouldn't say anything about it, only smile. Soon
thereafter, Thalia invited Tempest to downtown. She can't say
she has been there before, but it seemed like a nice time to
have. She wasn't too worried about the patrons of the night life
here; she could take down a whole city with one wave of her hand
if she had to. "I would assume your name is Thalia..." She said
pointing to the name tag clipped on the woman's shirt. "SO
RUDE!" Tempest giggled, opting not to grab her hat and jacket.
"I wont be needing that; the weather's going to be just
perfect.." She said as she stood up. The weather was supposed to
rain very soon, but Tempest had other plans for it now..
