Re: The Runaways [walk.in]

Once Tara stood up, Ryu rolled to her feet and turned her
attention to Jax, tilting her head to the side and giving a soft
woof. Deciding she seemed to be behaving, Jak left her to her
own devices. So they'd been here for two years?! That was quite
a while... "What made you stay? I mean, that's a long time, it
doesn't look like there's much here." He turned his gaze away to
look around and when he turned back, he found himself looking at
his bag walking away. "Wha-?" Before he could argue, Nikolai had
jumped the fence and set his bag down. "Oh, thanks. To be honest
I might just throw a tarpaulin over one of those and Ryu and I
can sleep in there." He paused and then rolled his shoulders. "I
mean, if that's not a problem of course." Seeing Tara leave, he
nodded and gave a brief wave with a "thanks," and a smile,
before patting his leg for Ryu to follow him and headed over to
the tea cups where Nikolai was now spinning. "So... do any of
the rides still actually work properly?" He'd never been to an
amusement park before, he knew it was a long shot but he sort of
hoped something still worked.

It wasn't that Nikolai meant to be rude- the filter that
everyone possessed that sifted the rude comments from the nice
comments just wasn't there. The wild hadn't stripped him of his
manners or anything like that; back in Brooklyn he was still the
same sarcastic, rude, and uncaring kid he was now. Nikolai
barely had enough effort to care for himself, let alone other
people. Did that count as rude, or just lacking sympathy Either
way, Nikolai hadn't cared since he was born.
The tea cup rattled almost violently against the track as it
whirled to the left, doing a three sixty before swaying back to
the right, barely making a one eighty before dipping down the
child sized hill provided for exciement, although now it only
made it a good ten feet before slowing to a squealing halt, all
the while Nikolai holding on almost effortlessly to the handle
of the tea cup;something he would've been yelled at for had
there been workers around- but they were long gone, along with
the lines that he was never fond of standing in impatiently.
Nikolai's face dropped slightly, looking like a little kid that
just got told his dog died, although the expression was soon
wiped clean from his face, tacking on a small smile and shaking
his head, offering a smile. "I wish...The only thing that
remotely works is this and the kid part of the park...But that's
only because I can push it and then hop in the carts.." Nikolai
hopped off the tea cup and skillfully hopped from bar to bar on
the metal track, eventually able to leap onto the deck where you
boarded the tea cups. "Want me to show you around, or would you
rather sleep?" The boy's head cocked curiously, like a dog's.

Jak couldn't help but admire Nikolai, Tara too in fact. They'd
managed to build a sort of life here for two years and neither
of them looked on the verge of death. He'd known grown men who
hadn't lasted half that time in the city, and they were people
who had changed tossed their way all day if they looked a little
extra sad. He'd never liked those kind of homeless, the ones
that just sat and did nothing, expecting the world to help them.
He understood life was hard living on the street, but he held
the belief that a person should still work for what they needed,
it was why Ryu knew several tricks, so if they were short on
food, they could earn money. He hated just sitting around.
Realising he'd faded off into his thoughts, he blinked a few
times and quickly returned his attention to Nikolai, luckily in
time to hear as he started to talk. "That sucks, have you tried
repairing anything? Or is it just power you need?" He stepped
forwards to rest his elbows on the fence that marked where the
queue would have been, watching Nikolai jump across the track.
"A tour? Sounds good! I guess I should know my way around if I'm
gonna stay a few nights." He laughed a little, picturing himself
wondering round and getting lost within five minutes. Direction
was never his talent, he left that to Ryu and her nose.
