       The Runaways [walk.in]

For some reason or another, you ran away. Might it be because
you didn't want to go by the rules your parents set for
you as long as you were under their roof, you've got a warrant
out for your arrest, or maybe because you just couldn't handle
the real world anymore. Whatever the reason, you're on the run
and you needed to get away. The woods a few miles away from town
gave a sort of comforting feeling oddly enough, and you set off
into the green wonderland, hiking for days on end.
About two days into your journey, you come across a beat up
wooden sign that says Wonderland. You laugh to yourself,
figuring that it was just a joke- but of course you take the
trail that the sign pointed towards.... Just out of curiosity.
You find an abandoned amusement park; although it's not so
abandoned after further investigation. The park has since then
been changed into a home for the homeless. The runaways take
shelter here. Will you stay here, or just pass through?

Tara threw the tore up tennis ball for what felt like the
hundredth time that day, watching as it bounced off the
paint-chipped mirror and hurdled towards the doorless frame; Jax
in hot pursuit of the toy. In seconds the baby blue room was
silent. The woman glanced towards the sunlight that looked a
hell of a lot warmer than it actually was; it was about to be
fall. Another year down, another year surviving out in the wild
with her fellow runaways. By now the amusement park had been
slightly renovated, although it still had the abandoned look- to
be honest, most of the park was untouched, only the funhouses
and rooms that could be turned into small sleeping huts were
tampered with. Tara had chosen the mirror house as her place of
living. After a few days of digging around the supply closets of
the park, she'd discovered paint, some nails, wood, things of
that nature and eventually made the mirrored building a four
bedroom house- knocking out a few walls and mirrors here and
       there.
Jax came padding back in, ball in mouth, ears stood straight up.
Tara smirked while grabbing the ball from the her companion's
mouth and giving it another toss. Today was a relaxed day, more
of a resting day from yesterday's hunt for food; everyone
pitched in and it was her and another friend's turn yesterday.
They'd actually brought home quite a few deer, some rabbits and
a couple raccoons that she would be skinning later on tonight.
Sure there were clothes that newcomers brought and traded
amongst the others. Food that was bartered and objects given to
one another, but some runaways come empty handed and in need of
those things, and to be sure that no one was dying here in
'Wonderland', Tara and a select few volunteered to make these
       needed items.
Tara had given up greeting every single person that walked
through the welcome gates of thise place- it'd proved useless,
as some were wanting nothing but peace and quiet. Other's were
just plain rude. A few times Jax even had to step in to keep her
safe. She had no problem throwing people out and telling them to
keep on walking; three other people not including her had a say
so in the matter, and it was pretty much a majority vote
       regardless.
A loud bark echoed outside causing birds to scatter every which
way. Tara looked up from the raccoons lying in the corner of the
       room, bro furrowing.

[Hope ya don't mind me jumping in! -is Fortuna from ooc the
       other day-]
Running a hand through dark strands of hair, Jak groaned. He was
tired, it had been a long walk from the last town and he wanted
to sleep... But try as he might, he couldn't get Ryu to sit
still long enough to rest. Every time he managed to grab her
collar and get her settled, she'd take off again, pulling him
along as though leading him somewhere. "C'mon girl, I want to
sit... You know that one, sit!"
Instead of obeying, the Australian sheepdog he called his
companion simply looked back at him over her shoulder and then
continued walking purposefully ahead. Rolling his head on his
shoulders, Jak grunted and followed. Sometimes he wondered who
was in charge in this strange friendship they had. He hitched
his bag further up his shoulder and sighed, looking around and
wondering where she was leading him. He always trusted her
judgement - after all, she had the better nose. She'd lead him
to many towns and farms before now and she'd never been wrong.
He just wished she'd slow down and let him rest from time to
       time...
A sharp bark came from the dog ahead and Jak looked up, seeing
they had come to a sign that Ryu seemed rather excited about.
"What is it?" Jak frowned, stepping closer to read it.
"Wonderland?" He paused for a moment, glancing down at his
companion before rolling his shoulders. "Fine, lead the way." He
gestured a hand forwards, which she took as command to continue
on, her tail swaying as she trotted further.
It felt like they were walking forever, though it could only
have been a few minutes, when Ryu let out another discovering
bark. Jak reached over to give a soft scratch behind the ear as
he always did when she found a new place, her tail swaying while
he gave the place a brief look-over. It seemed abandoned... but
there were signs of life here. Were people living here? Well,
whatever the case, he knew to be cautious. Too many times he'd
stumbled across the resting place of others and gotten into
trouble. Hence why he now travelled with Ryu, he could protect
himself but it was nice to have a companion to protect and scare
       away trouble.

It wasn't everyday that newcomers came through, considering the
distance between 'Wonderland' and the rest of the world was
miles. Most people gave up halfway through the journey down the
man-made trail that led to the runaway safe haven. So when
people did come, Tara was sure to analyze the situation before
just walking up to strangers- Jax was also a pretty good reader
on whether or not they were good people.
Tara pushed herself off the make shift bed she'd made in the
corner of her room - mostly blankets and a few foam pads she'
acquired while inspecting the amusement park- and peeked out the
door frame, silently rummaging through the box sitting next to
the door, her hand retreating with a knife she'd brought with
her when she first got here. Slipping the weapon in her pocket,
the woman headed out into the open and rounding the corner of
the building she'd seeked refuge in and spotting a man. Or was
it a boy? She douldn't tell how old the male was. Jax trotted
faithfully to her side, nudging her leg with his nose as if
pushing her towards the stranger. "Pass auf" The german command
'guard' rolled fluently off Tara's tongue, having learned the
german commands to teach Jax. Not that he would listen to anyone
else, but she felt it would be more secretive- not a lot of
people knew German. The shepard stood at attention, arge ears
standing straight ahead. His lip pulled up at the site of
another dog. Tara's hand instantly shot for the weapon in her
pocket, fingeirn it gently, though not bringing it out. That
       would just be rude.
"What the fuck 's going on..? I was trying to sleep for fucks
sake. " Another male came rounding the corner, hair every which
way as though to back up the information he'd just shared with
Tara and the stranger. Nikolai glanced at Tara before noticing
the stranger and his dog. "Aye, 'ew are yoh?" His brooklyn
accent was thick. The only thing that covered the male's body
was some tattered looking cargo shorts, leaving his inked, pale
chest vulnerable to the chilled breeze.
       Here is Nikolai:]

Jak chewed his lip thoughtfully as he looked around. What a
strange place... Already his head was filling with ideas of
where he could make camp for the night, climb up somewhere on
one of the rides and make a hidden bed? He had a tarpaulin with
him in case it rained, he could make a shelter somewhere up high
out of the way of trouble. Ryu spotted the girl before he did, a
soft woof notifying Jak to look ahead. His piercing green eyes
landed on the stranger ahead before dropping to the dog beside
her. "Stay." He muttered softly to Ryu, who begrudgingly sat
though her entire body swayed from side to side with the wagging
of her tail. She was often too friendly for her own good with
unknown dogs, more than once Jak had to drag her out of a fight
and defend her himself so he'd learnt not to let her wonder off
towards them. He could only imagine they were runaways like him,
why else would they be in an abandoned place like this? At a
distance he couldn't tell how old she was, he'd need his glasses
for that but they were somewhere in his bag - he himself was
only 19 but he couldn't imagine her being much older, maybe
       younger?
"Hey -" Jak started to call out, but was interrupted by another
voice, one he could only just about manage to understand.
Quickly his gaze went to the new stranger, his hand instantly
grabbing Ryu's collar as she jumped to her feet and growled.
Women, she always instantly liked. Men, not so much. "Sit...
sit!" He held her collar firmly but pushed her rump down to the
ground so that she would sit, her tail no longer wagging so
happily. He soon returned his attention to the two strangers, an
apologetic smile on his face. He didn't want to cause trouble
already, they may only outnumber him by one, but he had no idea
how many more of them there were around.
"Sorry, she's not good with guys at first. I'm Jakobi, or Jak if
you want. This is Ryu." He straightened up, though kept his
fingers curled tightly around the collar. "We don't want any
trouble, just passing through looking for somewhere to stay a
bit. Maybe find something to eat? My stocks running a bit low,
we've been walking for days." Once again his teeth found his
lip, chewing on it as he waited in hope that they wouldn't turn
him away. He didn't mind if they were unfriendly,
unaccommodating or even threatening. He just wanted to rest and
find proper shelter for the night that didn't include climbing a
       tree...

Tara whirled around, giving Nikolai a firm slap on the chest.
"Stop being so rude. you don't even know the guy." Tara glanced
timidly to the other dog as her entire persona switched over to
angry and growling. "See? You pissed the dog off. " Tara took a
few steps closer to the tranger as he introduced himself,
offering a warm smile. "I'm Tara," she placed her hand on her
chest as if to gesture towards herself. "And this is Jax." The
German Shepard was already on her heels. His ears perked up at
his name, barking once. "That's Nikolai." The boy was yawning
while she introduced him, scratching his stomach briefly before
making his way to the boy, ignoring the dog. "Noice to meet ya."
He'd mellowed out alittle after waking up. "You're more than
welcome to stay here. We've got plenty of room. ' Tara pointed
towards the building she resided in. "You can stay in that
building, there's a few rooms in there. Or anywhere you fancy,
really." She smiled again and crouched down, eye to eye with the
other dog. "Hellow Ryu. That's Jax, and you're a cutie!" She
refrained from petting her, knowing how some dogs were at first.
"Or ya can stay with me," Nikolai winked and wriggled his
eyebrows. Tara rolled her eyes and looked back to the newcomer.
"Where'd you come from? You look tired."

Jak couldn't help but smirk a little when she slapped the guys
chest, hitching his bag up his shoulder a little more. It was
starting to get heavier by the passing minute and he was close
to just dropping it. As the girl moved closer, his grip tensed
in case Ryu decided she didn't like this stranger or her dog.
Thankfully though, she relaxed and instead tried to lean closer
to the German shepherd, her nose twitching and her ears perked
high. "Nice to meet you, Tara." he smiled down to the dog beside
her and nodded, "Jax, nice to meet you as well." Cautiously he
let Ryu move a little closer, she'd already begun to huff and
whine, wanting to greet this new friend she'd seemingly found.
He allowed her close enough to sniff, but he knew dogs were
temperamental, he didn't want to push it.
Hearing Nikolai, he looked up and nodded in agreement. "You
too." he smiled, despite seemingly getting off on the wrong
foot, he seemed like an okay guy. Jak was a stranger after all,
was only right Nikolai had been rather short with him. "Thanks,
if you don't mind I'll have a look around and see what's here
first. But it might be nice to have some company for once. At
least, some that can actually answer me." He smirked and looked
down at Ryu who was now sniffing at Tara, her tail beating so
fast she could power wind turbines. Seeing she wasn't getting
herself into trouble, he let go of her collar and let her wonder
freely, keeping an eye on her though as she circled Tara before
flopping onto her backin front of her, paws in the air. "Get up
you dozy dog...." Jak snorted, nudging her with his boot. "Well,
originally I'm from a little place in England, but I moved here
as a kid and lost my adorable accent. Parents died when I was 7,
got passed around in care homes, left when I was 12 and been
wandering ever since." He grunted and dropped his bag to the
floor, rolling his shoulder. "What about you guys? And how long
       you been here for?"

Jax's ears were immediately pressed down to his head as the new
pup circled Tara, the animal's lip twitching, though not curling
completely having sensed no threat so far. Tara held her hand in
front of Ryu, letting the dog sniff it before watching it fall
to the grass and roll onto her back. The woman giggled,
straightening up and running a hand through her blonde, slightly
ratted hair. England? That was a long ways away..However he
did mention traveling for a long period of time. Longer than
she'd been here, that's for sure. "We've been here for about
two years... I found this place, and Nikolai showed up a few
days later...People come and go, but only a few have really
stuck around." Nikolai leaned against the mirror-house, arms
crossed while he watched the movements of their newfound friend.
The boy was definitely tired; they should let him rest. Closing
the gap between the two, Nikolai grabbed bent down and grabbed
his bag, scopping it onto his shoulder and walking a few feet,
till her got to the tea-cup rides, hopping the fence with ease
and plopping the bag into one of the five tea cups that were
still intact. "You can put your things here till you find
       somewhere you want to sleep.
Tara nodded once, offering the boy a smile. "Well, i'll be in
that building," she pointed towards the one behind her. "If you
need me, I'll be in there." With that, she twisted around and
dissapeared around the corner. Nikolai was left standing on one
of the tea cups. The boy pushed against the ground efortlessly,
the tea cup sliding down the track. Nikolai let out a small
squeal, laughing loudly, the tea cup spinning in circles.
