       Midnight Murderer
       By: guest1218 Date: December 26, 2014, 12:53 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Her breathing was heavy and coming in short, distinctive puffs
of grey clouds as she ran. Every so often, she would break the
solid run in order to leap or dodge random obstacles in the city
streets. As if to add to the eccentricity, the woman was
brightly illuminated with an orange tinged light that emitted
from her skin. There was nothing chasing her, or nothing
visible, but she ran as if she were running in order to save her
       life.
Soon, an obstacle cloaked by midnight's darkness blocked her
path and tripped her, sending her into boxes and Glad bags
filled with trash. The place in the ally which she had fallen
was filled with debris from her fall. To little prevail, she
flailed her limbs in desperation, trying to get to her feet. It
became apparent to her as she tried to escape that the pain in
her ankle was a sign of a broken bone. Her face twisted in
revelation that was mixed with pure horror. She was trapped; she
       knew it.
In one last futile attempt, she began to crawl away, scraping
her skin on broken glass and other miscellaneous trash.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a dark figure appeared in front of the
fleeing girl. The girl whimpered and lifted her hands up as if
to beg but her words died on her tongue before they could
transpire. The dark figure extended a hand and shot out a
mixture of purple and red light. The girl quickly faded into
oblivion behind the light as it engulfed her body.
The dark figure stood there for a moment, as if frozen in place
as the person stared down at the place the girl had been. After
a moment, the person lowered the hood and revealed a mass of
       dark, curly purple hair.
Her knees gave a subtle 'pop' in protest as she bent down and
pulled out a cellphone. After typing a few things, she put it
back in her pocket and then stood back up.
No longer in a hurry, the woman walked at an even pace. Her walk
was brisk, but no where near the sprinting she had just done. If
only she had more time to slow down! She had not slept for three
weeks. Not that her body required sleep, but it would be nice to
sleep if only for an hour.
The woman wandered into a bar on fifth street. Her gaze did not
lift to peer at the mortals but instead she went downstairs. At
the bottom of the staircase, she knocked on a large black door.
It opened, revealing a brick wall of a man. He had tattoo
sleeves that connected to the ink on his neck. His shirt could
barely hold his muscles as he folded his arms and stood in her
       way.
       "Password?" he asked.
The woman raised an eyebrow and gave him the middle finger. He
chuckled and gave her room to pass him. She patted his shoulder
in friendly affection as she entered the basement. Music pounded
in her ears, nearly causing her ear drums to burst, as she made
her way to the bar under black lights. People bumped into her as
they tried to squeeze around others. Ignoring them, she ordered
a drink and sat at the bar while waiting for the whiskey.
She glanced around, eyeing those like her as well as their human
dates. Humans were so gullible, easy to be tricked into being
late night appetizers. She shook her head and took a drink of
the glass the bartender sat in front of her.
If they knew, the humans would call them vampires, but her race
didn't drink blood. She made a face at the thought. So nasty!
No, they consumed human's energy. Some of her kind even robbed
       them of their souls.
The woman was the opposite though. She didn't hate humans or use
them as pets. Her entire life was devoted to protecting then and
enforcing the laws of the higher courts.
It had taken a while to get used to being an assassin,
especially when she was killing her own. There were days when
she would only get through thanks to a few bottles of Jack. With
no family, she had little to lose and that's why she thought the
elders had suggested the job to her in the first place.
Black lace peeked out of the hem of her jeans as she leaned
forward, hunching over with her elbows on the countertop. She
rubbed her temples, clearly in need of some stress relief. Her
black clothes were tight against her skin, hugging her curves
and making them seem smaller than what they really were. She had
gotten used to the pain that came with wearing them and found
that they made it easier to fight; sometimes. They did little to
       attract men though.
A woman came up and sat by her, wearing a white robe and a red
dress underneath. She looked at her with green eyes as white
       bangs cascaded down her forehead.
"You are getting assigned a partner for your next assignment,"
the woman yelled, trying to speak above the bass. "Before you
say anything, Adelaide, I am not taking no for an answer and I
hand picked him myself. He should be arriving any moment."
Adelaide sighed and emptied her glass then ordered another one.
All she wanted to do now was get drunk and sleep but duty
       called.

"What?! Are you seriously telling me I have to work with one of
those....things?! I refuse, we hunt them for a living because
they hunt humans to extinction. We are their protectors, thats
the reason we were given these spirits was it not?"
"My child, you need to understand it is the ability to
understand that not all of these creatures are bad and that some
hunt their own to stop them from such feedings. This woman is
one such, she hunts her people to extinction for what they do to
mortals, you will work with her no matter your position on the
       matter is and thats final."
Awl, the sensei turned away from the boy and began walking back
inside the large manor where they had stayed. This was it, Hades
could not let the teacher walk away not without some sort of
guarantee that he wouldnt hear the young student out. He
clenched his fist tightly, his claws digging into the palm of
his hand he stepped forward pushing off his left foot and
darting forward leaving a trail of dark black flames behind him.
Awl would pay for telling him he had to help one of the kind
that slaughtered his family in cold blood, the old man would
never understand how he truly felt. Hades flicked his hand
forward and slammed it into what he thought was the back of his
sensei's head, his voice was filled with venom and wrath as he
spoke almost shouting at the top of his lungs towards his
       teacher.
"I refuse to work with one of her kind not until I lay dead on
the floor not until...they return my family to me."
Awl sighed at the boy's words, the way he acted and spoke was
nothing like the sage of martial arts had taught him. He had
rotated around as the young pup charged him, his hand covered in
a dark black flame...Awl sighed and caught Hades fist the fire
surrounding it circled around Awls for only a quick moment
before fading altogether, becoming nothing at the hands of the
ice that now surrounded Hades fist. He shifted his other fist
forward slamming into the center of Hades body sending him
sliding back along the ground until he hit a tree, blood
slipping from his lips and to the ground below him. Awl returned
to his position slipping his hands back into the sleeves of his
robe his yellow tinged eyes falling upon the boy, the eyes like
that of an owls, the wisest of all the birds of prey. In that
moment, the hellhound that resided inside of Hades was frozen in
fear causing Hades to do the same as his Sensei spoke.
"You will go down to the bar on fifth street, and down below
will be a secret entrance. Behind a door there you will meet a
woman named Adelaide. She will be your partner for this mission,
and if I say so for the rest of your life as a hunter. Do you
       understand me?"
       "Y...y..es Sensei"
Hades rose from his position and took off into the mansion, he
packed a few things and tossed them into a bag at his side
before he took off towards the edge of the mountain. He shifted
into a large red wolf, almost six feet tall in size with a mane
of black fire as he leaped over the side of the mountain and
scaled it down running on all fours in an attempt to get down to
the city below, his four paws caring him through the empty
streets all the way to the bar that he had been told to visit.
The wood door sat open in front of him, even as he changed back
into his human form, his body shirtless revealing all of the
muscles that he had gained since he had become a trainee under
Awl. He wore only a pair of combat like pants and no shoes, he
actually looked like a beggar from the streets but none the less
he walked through the bar and to a set of stairs that he
decended down. His eyes focused on the door as it slipped open
and a mountain of a man stood there his dark eyes already giving
him away as a vampire. The man spoke menacingly and licked his
lips already smelling the mortal tint from him.
"It seems my meal came to me, I always did like subservant
       meals"
"You better move shitface or I will make you move....actually
you know what I think I will make you move....Dan."
Hades allowed a smirk to cross his lips, his hand glowing a deep
dark purple color almost black before erupting into a black
flame. He extended his hand forward and slammed it into the
chest of Dan sending him through the door and even destroying
part of the wall as he flew into the room a smoldering hole in
his chest. Hades stepped in behind him with a light sigh upon
his lips, his eyes had become a deep dark black color. He
cracked his knuckles, his eyes had returned to their normal navy
color and a slight growl left his lips..his eyes searched around
the bar as most of the beasts looked at him, obviously he had
caught the attention of all these creatures, and that was
perfect. He finally began to speak a cocky and charismatic tone
to his voice even though he was in the presence of all these
       creatures.
"I search for the one named Adelaide, anybody care to show me
       the way?"

The commotion in the bar didn't draw her attention away from her
drink. The woman beside her was trying to speak to her but
Adelaide was too busy ignoring her. When her name was spoken,
the woman beside her waved the man over to them. Adelaide shook
her head and ran her fingertips down the side of the glass that
was wet due to condensation. The skin on her fingers were damp
as she ran them through her hair, removing the stray strands
from her cheeks. The stool she sat upon was uncomfortable with a
wooden slab for a seat and no back. It was clear that the owner
didn't mind cutting expense where he could.
The woman at her side slammed down a paper in front of her,
demanding her attention. A men's face with a rugged beard and
bright blue eyes stared back at her. It caught her attention
alright. The familiarity of the man brought a frown on her lips.
"Is there an issue, Adelaide?" she asked, clearly testing her
       response.
Adelaide downed her drink and very slowly, rose to her feet,
grabbing the paper in her left hand. After all of this time, the
elders still did not trust her. This mission was not assigned to
her on accident. If she failed, the man assigned to her would
most likely kill her instead. Some partner...
Adelaide had spent years trying to live up to their
expectations. She had killed more of her kind than she could
cope with and never had she questioned their authority. It had
driven her to drinking and using other drugs to numb the affects
that murdering left behind. Yet, they still didn't see her as
equal or a being of worth. Adelaide would not put up with their
       games much longer.
The woman was still watching her, hoping for a reaction still.
Taking the picture, she crumbled it up and threw it at her feet.
"Don't you need it?" she asked, glancing down at the paper.
Adelaide nearly lost it, but instead she glared at her and said,
"I think you know damn well what I need. You can tell the elders
they know where to find me if they want me dead."
With that, she left the woman stand with trembling knees and
went to speak to her partner. He was as scary as a mouse to her
but then again, she wasn't afraid of much. Once, one of her
victims had asked her if she was afraid of death before he tried
to fight her. Since she had never met Death, she couldn't say.
"Let me guess, they call you Georgy?" she asked, with her arms
folded in front of her. "No! Wait, I'll guess it, just give me a
       moment..."
She began walking out of the bar, not looking if he was
following or not. The streets lights were on but it was still
dark enough that it was difficult to see. Adelaide did not stop
until they were out of the city.
"You look like a Richard," she commented. "Cain? Kyle? Vernon?
Harold? Jace? Javelin? Manny? Oblivion? Bobby?"
She was purposely trying to get on his nerves since she knew his
disdain for her. It was clear by the way he handled the guy in
the bar that he didn't care for her race. Most people didn't but
she had been human once and they forgot that. It had never been
her choice to be this way, which made it harder. It was one
thing one everyone else hated you, another when you hated
       yourself.
The landscape had turned Rocky, making it difficult not to trip
       but she walked with grace.

It didn't take long for him to meet his partner a stuck up
little vampire that thought she would agitate him with their
first meeting..he rubbed the bridge of his nose as she began
spatting out a bunch of different names, none of which even came
close to his real name much less what his hunter name was. He
could already tell this was going to be a bigger pain than when
he had to help the stupid woman with the spider spirit, and she
literally ate males for breakfast...and he'd much rather be
there than here in front of this bitch. He waited until she
finished spatting off names before he finally looked at her his
arms crossing over his bare chest. At this point he took in a
minute to look over the vampire, at least the file was not wrong
about the fact that the girl was drop dead gorgeous but of
course that was the least things on his mind...all female
vampires and even males were charmers and charismatic but they
       were all monsters none-the less.
This woman though based on the file was different than most of
her kind, instead of hunting humans and feeding off of them like
cattle...she hunted her own kind killing them or bringing them
into captivity for the remainder of their lives. Why did she
hunt them? Was it her own sick amusement that she hunted her own
kind? It was some sick joke to her he was sure maybe she hated
her race because they took all the best cattle, either way he
would have to deal with her as his partner in crime. He finally
stopped eyeing the girl and took a deep sigh his eyes slipping
closed and for once his discipline took over and forced him from
out right killing the girl, he took an eastern like bow and
spoke. His voice was sweet and charismatic even now though it
was laced with a hint of venom towards the vampire before him.
"Since we are forced to worked together, I am called Hades, its
as simple as that and that is what you can refer to me as. I am
only here because whatever it is that we hunt is so strong that
apparently I can't hunt it myself and apparently neither can
       you."
It was then that the woman from before made her way outside and
to where they were, this contact of Adelaides. She walked with
spunk, she walked with power...her hand raised to her lips as
she made her way to the pair. She looked the both of them a
smile resting expertly upon her lips, she laughed almost lightly
before that seductive voice left her lips and slipped to the
       ears of the pair.
"You two do know what your target is right, seeing as you threw
the picture away Adelaide and Hades left the folder back home
but the two of you are hunting the vampire council. Some of the
wisest and most intelligent members of the vampire society..."
"WHAT?! You want me and her to hunt the five council members
down including their leader who is deemed truly immortal. He has
killed more assassins than on this planet."
"Not scared are you sweetheart, if you are I could send you and
Adelaide home here and me and Awl could take care of our little
       problem."
At the mention of his teachers name Hades cringed his eyes
falling to the ground, and a mere nod of his head. He agreed to
accept this this contract and that meant five different
contracts which meant in the long run it put him closer and
closer to his objective of wiping the bloodsuckers from this
damn planet. He rose from his bowed position with a light sigh
towards the helper woman and rolled his eyes enough so it was
apparent that he was peeved but he only said his next comment
with a tinge of hatred in his voice.
"So are we staying at your place or mine?"

The council was not going to be easy to take down but she wasn't
scared. They were just wasting time by talking. Adelaide's dark
burgundy hair fell over her shoulders as she shook her head in
irritation. The corners of her lips tugged into a smirk as she
rolled her eyes at their banter and sauntered over to the right,
making an oval around them. It was clear that she was not used
to standing still and the buzz from the alcohol only worsened
it. Pulling out a silver flask, she took a swig and replaced it
once the woman disappeared. Her eyes turned bright blue as her
hand formed an idle fist at her side and then loosened. Adelaide
repeatedly made a fist at her sides as she switched her weight
       on one foot to another.
"Mr. Death Lord, we are staying at your place," she said.
She had no idea where he lived so she waited impatiently for him
to lead the way. A street light flickered above her and went out
just as a scream sliced through the air. Looked like she
       wouldn't be sleeping again tonight.
"Stay here," she instructed and took off down a dark ally.
The brick building towered over her like silhouettes of giants.
Or maybe, that was just the liquor talking. Taking another
drink, she fought back the memory of the night they had turned
       her.
It had been the night of her seventeenth birthday and she had
been on her way home from a friend's. She had taken a shortcut
through the ally to get home faster in order to evade her
father's drunken outrage for being home after curfew. The
monsters were waiting for her in the curtains of the night. She
       never saw it coming...
A woman with a bob cut and a mini skirt had her arms out, trying
to warn off large vamp. His eyes were filled with bloodlust, or
energylust to be exact. In the many years of hunting, she had
heard many people say that the victim was at fault for being in
places that left them vulnerable. She disagreed. No one deserved
to go through that fear, especially so close to their home. When
something was familiar to someone, like the city streets they
walked down, they became too comfortable and were not as
cautious as they needed to be.
"You want to let her go?" she asked, though it was a rhetorical
       question.
The vamp stopped short in front of the girl and looked at
Adelaide with a smirk. He laughed and started stalking his
victim again. Adelaide sighed, withdrew a metal star and threw
it, aiming for his chest. Before it could make its target, he
vanished, leaving the girl and her alone in the ally.
Adelaide frowned. No vamp had that kind of power, or should
have. It was strange and it worried her. The girl took off,
leaving her with the flask in hand.
She swallowed the liquid and shouted, "you're welcome!"
She mumbles incoherently about the lack of manners the coming
generations had as she wandered out of the ally. Her tight
clothes matched the color around her pupils as they turned black
       mixed with red glints.
In the pit of her gut, she could feel something was about to
transpire. It would change everything and test the scales of
good and bad. The council was not stupid, they knew what was
coming and Adelaide knew that they were not just going to sit
back and be defeated. It was possibly going to be the most
dangerous battle she had taken part in yet. There was really no
way of being any care prepared which made her feel as though she
was going into it all blindly. Her partner would be no help to
her either, not really. He would be fine if she rolled over and
died along with the rest of them.

       Stay here
The woman had just given him an order as if she was some leader
of this group, they were a team and that meant not letting the
vampire girl get ahead of herself dealing with her own personal
conflicts. She had taken off down the alley so he would move
above, he leaped forward immediately changing into the shape of
his spirit beast. The hellhound. He bounded across the street
and leaped between two houses to the roof above, stalking her as
he leaped from roof to roof. Adelaide soon came to a human woman
being stalked by a vampire, the vampire looked familiar based on
all of his knowledge, what was it...then his eyes met the one
sign he had hoped he would never lie eyes on. The back of the
vampires head was a tattoo with a three number sequence. He
growled slightly, as the vampire faded before he could get a
good glimpse at the number, he knew what that meant....before
they had even started this council already knew they were the
prey. He thought back to his teachers words as he watched
       Adelaide.
The council are the most powerful vampires known to
mankind....but to us hunters it is the group that lay under the
council that make them dangerous. The are called, well to put it
simply we call them demons, they are more dangerous than normal
vampires and more deadly than normal hunters. There is only
three of such in existence, and they are named by the three
number sequence carved in the back of their head. There is 300,
a master of shadows and darkness...if it is unnaturally dark
where you are at anytime during a hunt you are to retreat for if
they kill you...you join them. The other two we have no
information on but their numbers, 666 and 999..opposites for
good and evil, yin and yang. They are probably two of the other
ones you want to avoid at all costs.
He leaped down from the building after recalling the information
landing next to Adelaide, his eyes had returned to their calming
emerald green color and he had returned to that of a human. His
eyes were off in the distance lost in thought as they made their
way to his place, in a matter of seconds they stood in front of
a large wooden door. The only thing that was in front of them,
well the only thing that she could see....when he pushed the
door open the inside looked way more extravagant like the manor
of an eastern lord. The house was only one floor but had many of
rooms, the paper mache like doors hiding what was inside each of
the rooms. He continued down the hallway not saying much before
pointing out a room that had been made up specifically for her.
The blue sliding door, had a paper mache collage on the front of
it a blue jay sitting upon a cherry blossom tree with its wing
       clipped.
"This is your room.....mine is down the hallway with the black
door. If you need anything thats where I will be"

When the door had came into view, she wasn't surprised to see
that the rest of the house was hidden from her sight. Clever,
she thought, wondering what charm made it invisible to only
certain passing glances. She was impressed by the expensive
taste of the inside of the home. Hades had outdone himself with
the decor. Apparently, she needed to ask for a raise since he
was could afford all of this while she slept above a bar in a
dusty closet. Not that she wasn't grateful for the store owner's
'generosity' but it would be nice to own a bed instead of
borrowing a cot. But that's what happened when you were a
       'monster'.
"You have a beautiful house," she complimented, doubting he
would like or accept it coming from her.
The picture of the bird with chipped wings held so much irony
that it hurt. It was obvious that the man beside her felt some
sort of deprivation of freedom as did she. It was what the enemy
and the ally had in common in spite if there being no room for a
common ground. Or maybe, she was taking too much from it.
Adelaide glanced away from the bird and looked around the room.
       Was he serious?
Her pleasant demeanor turned cold as embarrassment painted dark
shades of pink over the arches of her cheekbones. The immaculate
room was too much but she knew that voicing her concern would
only make Hades hate her more.
So, she decided to sneak out of the window later and sleep on
the roof. He need not keep her kind in a room such as this.
"Okay," she said with more energy than she felt.
She wandered through the bedroom door and glanced around,
timidly. The crown molding was a beautiful accent to the room,
letting her have a decent guess of its age. It was all too much
and she didn't touch a thing or sit on the furniture. He
       probably enjoyed watching her squirm...
Adelaide slept with mice chewing on her toes and cobwebs above
her head. She had a single blanket that was unable to cover the
length of her so she usually draped it across her legs at an
angle where the holes wouldn't let too much air in.
That's what she deserved for being a vamp. She watched him,
waiting for him to walk away so that she could escape as soon as
       possible.
"Good night," she said, hoping he would take the hint.
On the outside, she appeared distant but relatively calm.
Although, she didn't feel calm in the least. Her hair fell
around her, hugging the curvature of her face, as her eyes
strayed to the window. Once he left, or of he did, she would
sneak out to sleep beneath the stars on black shingles.
Still, she had to wonder why he had pointed out his room to her.
Why would he care if she needed anything? He was probably just
concerned about looking good for his bosses.
Her curves became defined as she went over to the window and the
moonlight seeped in and braced her silhouette. She stared out,
calculating the best place to sleep based on the slope of the
       roof.
