       Alex and Derek
By: Alexandria Moore Date: December 10, 2014, 6:04 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
A cloud of darkness began to fall across the fading light of
sky, slowly removing the warm, red beauty of sunset from the
atmosphere until its next calling from the sunlight. Soon to be
hidden beneath the darkness, a derelict city stood, the only
source of light through the night time hours being found hanging
20 feet in the air perched on top of a metal pole, some giving
no light whatsoever. Throughout the city, the foulest of crimes
were being commited almost every night, in one alleyway would be
a violence fuelled mugging, whilst in the open streets, gangs of
teenagers in possession of whatever they were able to use as a
weapon approached their rivals. The more their blood boiled, the
more that blood was spread across the uneven concrete of the
open roads, leaving it stained forever, strangers seeing the
physical remains of a cruel event from only hours beforehand.
Regardless of the carnage that swept the streets, thousands of
men, women and children continued to call it their 'home', a
sanctuary more safe than were they had previously found
themselves. However, some individuals choose to continue living
life in this decrepit area for the simple hope of escaping the
life they had once known, once shared with another, a
family...left behind in an instant. This was the category that
Alexandria would place herself. After being forced to live a
life she had never asked for or wished to aspire to, she found
herself an unwanted being amongst her own flesh and blood, an
outcast, having to find a safe haven in a matter of hours before
the sun dissapeared into the night, and after countless hours of
walking with nothing but a backpack of belongings and her
pockets filled with the money she had saved since she was only a
small girl, this was where she found herself. Her heart had
fallen so low in only one day, and handing that money over that
she had treasured for so long to a complete stranger renting an
apartment only made it fall to its lowest point, the only good
coming out of the day being the fact she had a place to sleep.
As the night progressed, Alex tossed and turned continuously as
sweat beads caressed her cheeks and forehead, her platinum
blonde hair clung to her face as the nightmares flooded her
mind, the images that haunted her childhood and teenage life
making sleep almost impossible. Pressure filled her chest, the
difficulty of breathing began to set in, triggering the end of
her uncomfortable slumber as her eyes shot open, revealing the
light blue hues that enticed others in sunlight. Her breath
raced from her lips as she sat up in the bed, finding herself
unable to speak, to call out for help or even ask for some form
of company in her time of panic. Turning her body slowly towards
the edge of the bed, Alex pressed her feet down to the ground,
feeling the soft fibres of the champagne carpet between her
toes, a calm, warm feeling slowly washing over her as she rose
to her feet and moved towards the closet. Raising her hands to
her head, she gently pushed her fingers through her soft locks
of hair before taking a number of minutes to get dressed. Her
slender frame hid beneath a pair of jet black sweatpants and
mens jumper, her hands barely visible at the end of the long
       sleeves.
Slipping her feet into a pair of baseball shoes and moving one
foot in front of the other, Alex made her way out of the
apartment, deciding that some night air would sooth her mind,
also giving a chance for her to observe the new surroundings,
her new home. A strong gust of wind met her as she descended the
cold, concrete staircase of the apartment building entrance, her
hands falling into the darkness of her pockets as she slowly
made her way across the sidewalk, taking the first steps of her
new life, a blank canvas. Shifting her eyes across the
environment, she noticed that the buildings where gradually
becoming more and more unappealing, smashed windows loosely
covered with boards, a clear sign of danger falling upon Alex's
shoulders as she began to question continuing. Bringing her
hands from the depths of her pockets, she wrapped her arms
around her small frame, grasping the loose material of the
jumper as she continued her journey into the unknown, her ears
picking up a mumbling of voices nearby causing her to shift the
weight onto her heels, spinning to see if it was coming from
       behind her.
       (I have no idea XD)

A dark city, corrupt government and families. People dying left
and right in gang fights as the small unappealing city as he
sighed and shook his head. "This place has gone so far down so
quickly, seems like just yesterday it was at least slightly
appealing to the eye..." He looked around as his ears perched up
through the thick cloth of his solid black zip up hoody. He
stood on top of the building next to a hotel. A diner and movie
theater down the street, and many solidly dark allies, hiding
who knows what in them. Yet more apartments, businesses and
houses laid around the roadways in every direction. His frame
stood tall around 6' even. His build obviously natural muscles
as he looked around. His worn blue jeans offering plenty of ease
of movement. His black hoody covering a tight fit long sleeve
       under armor.
His eyes glimmered with the slight moonlight in as he turned
towards the streets and made his way to the front of the
building. Catching a glimpse of a small framed woman wandering
from her apartment. He stood at the edge of the building.
Watching her movements and sighing to himself as he shook his
head. "Another wanderer... shit" Hearing whispers coming from
the dark of the alley on both sides of the building he cursed
under his breath and looked around. "Fuck, Might have to do this
       the hard way..."
With a huff he turned away and disappeared into night as he
slowly walked up behind the woman with his eyes closed as he
cupped her mouth lightly and pulled her back into the dark
before sighing. "Please the last thing I need you to do is freak
out. I will not let any harm come to you if you just don't
scream and please talk to me... You heard the alleys whispering
a second ago didn't you?" He slowly pulled his hand away from
her mouth before shaking his head and sighing. "Of course you
did, sorry I'm an idiot sometimes. Still what are you doing out,
you know the dangers of night right? Someone can just show up
and kidnap you like that!" Pulling her slowly further into the
alley he removed his hand from her mouth and shook his head.
Pulling his hood off to reveal a short spiked back hair color
and solid ice blue eyes. "Things can never be easy in this town
       Huh?"
With a slight shift in his position he stood in front of her and
flipped his hood up to cover his face in darkness before he
pushed her behind him and put his finger to his lips. "There are
about five of them, if you hide behind me in the dark they won't
know you are there. Just sit back I can handle them..." He
smiled and shook his head slightly before turning to great the
few scrawny looking men approaching from the barely lit
sidewalk. "Evening, and what can I help you gentleman with this
night?" He slowly slipped his hands into the front pockets of
his hoody making sure to leave plenty of room for the woman
stranger to be safe. His eyes glancing at each of the potential
predators in this situation as he smirked behind the darkness.
Awaiting their purpose or at least what they had to say.

Alex had just about managed to let out a gasp of air before she
was cut off by a hand covering her mouth, who the hell was it?
Where they going to do something? Panic began to completely
engulf her body, it was an accomplishment that she hadn’t
already dropped to the ground in a fit of panic, or simply
passed out for that matter. “please…just don’t kill me”, man
she’d said those words so many times, the only difference this
time was the hand covering her mouth prevented her from saying
it, her body seemed to just drag across the paving slabs,
darkness very quickly surrounding her and the stranger who
finally decided it was a good time to speak…hang on…he was
saving her from something? What?...And then she heard it, the
whispers she’d heard only 5 minutes ago were louder, a group of
men who were clearly drunk from the way their speech slurred.
Taking in a deep breath of air when his hand moved away, Alex
nodded and loosened the grip on her arms slightly as the man's
deep, smooth voice met her ears, the panic in her body
dissapearing more and more, but she couldn't understand why.
"Umm..." her sweet tone made its way through a small parting in
her lips as she attempted to think of something to say to the
man who looked like he wanted to help her escape a bad
situation. "Okay..I-I guess you’re right...I’m sorry" she said
softly, her eyes slowly looking the man up and down, taking in
his features before finding herself quickly shifting her gaze to
the group of strangers that appeared from nowhere. A gruff
chuckle escaped the closest guys throat, he was around the same
height as the man protectively standing in front of her, but
definitely not as physically fit, made clear by the quarter of
belly hanging out of his stained shirt.
“Dude chill…We only wanted to get a better look of that chick
you got hiding behind you, she’s hella cute…well, from what I
could see from across the street yknow?” he laughed again,
sending a wink the gentleman’s way, tilting his head to try and
get a glimpse of the panic stricken girl desperate to get back
home, this was definitely a mistake she wouldn’t make again…”I’m
new here, I don’t want a problem” she whispered to the man in
front of her, the grip on her jumper growing tight again as her
chest rose and fell rapidly, immediately realising the groups
       intentions…disgusting.
“C’mon babe…I don’t bite…much” the gruff man spoke again, taking
a few small steps towards the pair, fists clenched in
       preparation for anything.

His body held fast as the man approached the only thing
happening was his hands clenching at his sides into much larger
fists than the other males. He stood taller then most as he
looked at the approaching male and laughed. "As if, this girl
has a home and man. Now either you all move along or you'll have
more trouble than you can handle. New guy." He growled at the
last word before he caught a glimpse of the woman and his voice
rung in her head slowly. 'Take my arm, and don't let go. As long
as you're there they won't be able to touch you.' His voice just
as it was before, calm and collected. His eyes lit up slightly
as his fist clenched more and his tone grew dark.
"Now if you people know what is good for you, you'll leave.
Cause I promise you one thing I am the last person you should
mess with in this town. In case you don't believe me..." With a
slight tilt of his head he rolled his shoulders and cracked his
neck as he snapped his fingers. Then a small puff of smoke in
six different places two behind them and four around their front
blocking the men from getting to them. "This isn't even the fun
part." He laughed before finally the clouds formed into his
shape and in an instant a clone of himself appeared in every
spot. They all tilted their heads and laughed in unison. "I'm
sorry, but if this creepy shit isn't enough to scare you drunks
straight, just wait till you see us fight..."
Still having her hugging his arm he blinked and looked in the
direction of the woman behind them. "Don't worry about this I'll
explain later, but even now we have a free trip back, only one
of my clones is really needed for all of them. But if we all
train then we all get better, is really the way I see it..." He
looked ahead at the group of drunkards and shook his head. All
of his clones doing the same before crossing their arms and
glaring at their targets. Two being focused on the main man who
decided to step closer. "Let me just say this, if you leave now
then we won't have to put you all into the concrete. If you
promise to leave and never show your faces around here again?"
He blinked and pushed his hood down before his glare pierced
them all. "What do you choose?"

“What a way to make an entrance into a city you’ve only been in
for 12 hours…Nice one” Alex shook her head, pushing the
sarcastic comments rattling through her mind away for the time
being, It was definitely not the right moment to be blurting out
any of it, these guys didn’t look like they’d handle it well. “I
really don’t want to be here…” she muttered, it was awful
knowing that she wouldn’t be able to do anything in a situation
like this, just be another victim for their list, it was obvious
they’d done it before…they certainly weren’t shy about their
thoughts towards her. Just knowing they’d stalked her down the
street made her shudder, she couldn’t even begin to imagine
their actions if this stranger hadn’t appeared from nowhere.
       Talk about luck.
“What the hell is your problem man?!” a voice from the group
shouted out, a couple shakes of a fist in the air making it
clear who’d said it, “This doesn’t concern you...so disappear
back to your little cave or wherever you call home and leave us
be” he added, the group bursting out into a chorus of laughter,
the odd splutter and cough made an appearance here and there.
Alex practically threw herself at the stranger when she heard
his voice, her hands looking like a child’s wrapped around his
arm, it really put into perspective how small she was, even
though she’d never actually considered 5 feet 6 as ‘small’. Her
eyes shot open as smoke bellowed through the alley, where the
hell did that come from?! This was crazy, she was quickly
beginning to think that running earlier on would’ve been a good
idea, but then again, maybe not now that she knew the guys were
following her, they could’ve found out where she lived. Damn.
She nodded at the man’s words, making sure she never left his
side and that her grip on his arms was constantly tight, it
wasn’t like she could hurt him anyway. The clones surrounded the
gang in a matter of moments, all the spitting image of the man
next to her…this was just weird. Alex’s breathing became
slightly erratic as the men exchanged insults and threats, and
she’d really hoped this all could’ve been sorted differently,
yeah right! Once again, the ring leader laughed, taking yet
another step closer, he was only a couple feet away now.
“Yeah…you won’t do shit kid! Now you’ve gone and made this
difficult, we could’ve been on our way now and you just HAD to
go and get all heroic didn’t ya?!...I DARE YOU to try and land a
punch” he spat, glaring at the stranger for a moment in complete
silence, shifting his eyes over to Alex, a slight grin growing
from the corner of his lips before he threw his hand forward,
grasping hold of her free wrist tightly. “Let go!”

The man still stood completely still. Never shaking or so much
as shivering. His eyes fixated on the male stepping closer.
Without a second of hesitation as soon as he saw him reach his
hand connected with his throat in a fist as he sent the man
barreling into the middle of the street and his grip on her
wrist nothing but a mere tickle. He sighed before looking back
at her and shaking his head. "Sorry you had to get caught up in
all this... it's kinda my fault anyway..." He shook his head and
sighed. Shrugging his shoulder he blinked and looked back at his
clones. "Clean these guys up if they really feel they can take
you. Other than that, this lady is going right home and
untouched by any of you pigs!" He growled again and slowly
rested his hand on hers as his warmth spread through her.
He slowly offered her his opposite hand and raised an eyebrow.
"I'll escort you home while the shadows keep them at bay. Trust
me they will not know where you are staying..." He blinked at
her his eyes sincere as he looked back and nodded. "Go, take
them to their places, or put them there alive if you can." He
sighed and turned back around just as his clones grabbed them
men and started pushing them all back and into the city. The two
carrying the unconscious one back to his home. He looked at her
again as he looked back towards the motel. "Please tell me that
isn't where you are staying?" His eyebrow raised in concern and
       he shook his head.
His voice echoed as he slowly walked towards the motel as he
looked around and kept speaking. "This city isn't so much a city
anymore. More Shitty really... Either way this motel is known
for uncomfortable beds, it's not so much the bed as the
environment. Some say it even has some people feel tortured all
night..." He shook his head and laughed looking back at her
before shrugging. "There are things that even we can't explain,
with anything. Science or logic... it's an unknown phenomenon."
He shook his head and laughed. "Oops, sorry I'm blathering and
you probably don't want a stranger knowing where you live huh?"
He laughed and scratched his head, looking away as he came to a
stop right outside the motels parking lot and turned around.
"Try to be more careful next time you go out okay?"

What the hell was going on? Why wasn’t the guy in front of her
phased? This was all a bit too weird for Alex to decipher,
apart from the fact she definitely knew this city was the wrong
choice to have a ‘fresh start’ as they call it. But hey, it was
the best place for a young girl with hardly any money and no
form of transport, otherwise it was an good extra 3 days of
solid walking to the next place, and that didn’t sound fun until
now. “Your fault?” she muttered, her blue pools gazing up at him
when he spoke, her eyebrow arching slightly at the strange
suggestion, what did he do to make it his fault? It was her own
stupid fault for thinking it was clever to wander the streets of
a city totally unknown to her at 5am, her body feeling a sudden
rush of heat as his hand pressed against hers and for some
reason at that moment, Alex felt alright, for the first time in
a long time she actually felt a little positive about something,
probably the fact she was living another day.
She nodded and slowly stepped out of the dark alleyway, gazing
over her shoulder as she walked to watch the clones pushing and
shoving the horrible group of so called ‘men’ towards their
homes, thank god it was in the opposite direction to hers,
hopefully it was the last time she’d see them and the last time
they’d ever think of something so vile. A slight smile grew from
the corner of her lips before she turned to face forward,
quickly realising that they’d already arrived outside the motel,
It really was a sight for sore eyes…she hadn’t noticed, she was
more concerned with getting a bed. “Umm..yeah..” she chuckled
quietly, taking in the shabby signage and cracked reception
window, letting out a small groan at the sight. “It’s all I can
       afford right now”
Alex sighed, her body becoming more and more relaxed the longer
they stood outside, the odd gust of wind blowing through and
covering her face in long strands of silvery blonde hair, she
looked like something from The Addams Family for those few
seconds until she could get it under control before shoving her
hands into the depths of her sweatpants pockets. “Well, yeah…I
sort of agree with that one…I think the torture thing was why I
came out, to clear my head yknow?” she shrugged again, knowing
that even if she tried hard enough, no decent amount of sleep
was gonna be had in this place anytime soon. “Yeah, I don’t
think I’ll be leaving my room from now on…I’m sorry about all of
that”, she looked up at the stranger, still trying to suss out
why he’d helped her out, and especially why it was his fault. He
was definitely a mystery. And she was intrigued.

He had nodded to her as she spoke. She seemed very soft spoken
at this point. He shook his head and chuckled. "For a women like
yourself I'd figure you'd be more upbeat and happy to be out of
there scot free?" He blinked but more so tilted his head before
raising an eyebrow. His eyes catching hers as he slowly pushed
her hair from her face and kept his hand against her cheek. His
palm warm again, yet cold close to the center. He shook his
head. "Such a beautiful girl like yourself shouldn't feel down
trodden by others mistakes and hateful decisions... What has you
troubled? or would you perhaps rather hear something about
me..?" He paused before finishing his sentence with a question
slowly looking around the alley and shaking his head.
He looked around once more before raising an eyebrow. "Would you
rather get some stuff and go to my place? You can take my bed
and I'll be more than happy to take the couch?" He offered
lightly before putting his hands up and shaking his head.
"Though if you don't want to I'll be more than happy to back off
and go away and you won't see me again..." He chuckled and shook
his head. "I'm just sure there won't be anything but peace and
quiet, or even sounds from your favorite place..." He shrugged
and looked at the motel. "I mean you are more than welcome to
accompany me home and stay, but I'm not gonna force you." He
smiled and bowed to her before standing at the side of the motel
       outside the gate.
"No matter what your decision I can wait out here, or accompany
you inside before we leave. I'll even be more than happy to
refund your money you lost from this awful place." He chuckled
and smiled. Closing his eyes as he leaned back against the wall.
"The choice is all yours dear, just excuse my ignorance..."
Turning to stand in front of her he saluted her with his right
arm and then bowed. Slowly standing again straight up, this time
his eyes catching hers as they glimmered and he smiled. "The
pleasure was all mine Miss, my name is Derek. Derek Deamon, at
your rescue and willing to help with anything." He bowed his
head again and then stood up. Slowly leaning back again and
smiling. "I await to hear your decision."

“I’d figure you’d be more upbeat and happy…” Now that was a new
one that Alex hadn’t heard before, no one had ever assumed the
personality she’d have or been taken back by it being the
complete opposite…it was a shock to her basically. As the wind
blew in and Alex fumbled a little with her hands to keep her
locks out of her face, her chest tightening suddenly when she
felt his hand on her cheek and their eyes locked. “ummm…” she
hesitated, looking down at her feet for a moment, rocking back
and forth slowly, still trying to figure out what to respond
with. Alex wasn’t good with physical contact at all, she’d never
been good with it and nobody could ever understand why,
especially when her mother or siblings would attempt a loving
embrace only to either be pushed away or watch her run out of
       the room in a panic.
“You’d be surprised…” she replied sheepishly, pushing her hair
over her shoulder and looking around the street, finding herself
unable to make eye contact for the moment, what could she tell
him about herself? What would be deemed as alright from her
crazily horrible life that had actually started out perfectly?
And would he believe her was the main question. “I’m sorry…I-I
wouldn’t want to depress you, it’s not something people want to
hear…or care about” she laughed nervously, somehow managing to
hold back the panic stricken tears from the incident earlier,
man she was surprising herself today, she was actually holding
her shit together. His offer of a warm and comfortable bed
shocked her, he’d only just met her and was completely willing
to give up his own bed, allow her to be in his home AND pay for
her shitty night at the motel. Yep, definitely lucky. “I…umm…”
she looked down again, “I wouldn’t want to impose” Alex mumbled.
She watched his feet shift their weight as he leant back against
the wall, slowly looking up again so that her eyes were on the
motel door, a faint shadow of the sleazy owner could just about
be made out, she really didn’t want to live there, even though
she’d only been in her room for a few short hours, she felt so
guilty taking up his offer but she could tell he wanted her to
be alright and she nodded, finally turning her gaze back to him.
“I’ll just be a minute, there’s not a lot of stuff” she gave him
a sweet smile and ran inside, ignoring the owners grunts and
orders of ‘slow down you crazy girl!’ and she practically burst
into her room, clearly showed how much she wanted out of there.
“Okay okay..” she stopped for a moment, chest rising and falling
slowly as she looked around, shoving everything into her
backpack…that was it…all she owned, a couple items of clothing
and a roll of money she’d saved for years. “Are you sure you
don’t mind Mr Daemon?” she asked as she emerged from the motel,
swinging the backpack across her shoulder. “Alexandria
Moore…call me Alex” she giggled quietly, returning a little
       salute his way.

He nodded and smiled with his eyes closed as he turned and made
his way the opposite direction in which his clones had shoved
the men. "I don't mind the company for a while, it'll make the
days and nights a lot more bearable then being alone all the
time..." He had stopped his talking just as he looked around the
open street. They could either keep going all the way down to
the left a few blocks up, but he instead headed right and kept
his pace as slowly as he could to make it easier for the girl to
keep up. "And don't worry about it, It wouldn't be right of me
to let you stay in a place like that after the night you just
had tonight..." He simply shook his head and then looked around
just as they had gotten a few blocks down the road.
He looked around before he put his knuckles into the palm of her
hand and made sure she wasn't letting go as they walked across
the street and up to a dark red brick house with two stories and
large black shudders covering every window except the small
square windows leading into the living room. But covered from
the inside by large black drapes as he looked at the door,
pushing it open as the knob turned by itself. "Well it may not
be much, but it's the home I have in this city... Not my only
home but, one of them..." He shrugged as he led into a large
Victorian style home with dark cedar wood floors and small
placement rugs every so often. The main hallway leading
immediately into the living room to the left and the stairs
leading straight up on the right. Several feet down the hallway
the kitchen was dimly lit but still noticable as he blinked and
looked at her tilting his head.
"How do you like it? The rooms are upstairs and I'm sure you'll
be able to figure out the shower or bath? It's a jacuzzi bath
tub and a steam or waterfall shower. Whichever you prefer." He
scratched the back of his head and smiled. "Would you like the
tour of this hovel, or do you think you'd prefer to sleep the
night away?" He asked politely as he slid his hand away from
hers trying not to make her uncomfortable as he did so. Slowly
looking around his house as he slid the door closed behind them
silently and sliding the dead-bolt in. Then locking the door as
well. Slowly lifting his head to listen to what she would answer
       with.
