Dance in the mountains

Deep in the mountains of the east there lies a dojo, the
mountains around the dojo were treacherous and indifferent, so
the rule was simple make it to the dojo and you would be taught.
That was years ago, many such years have passed since the
teachers and the students that were once inside have left but
only two remained, students that were taught by two different
masters had stayed taking care of the gardens, the cobwebs that
had gathered in its many floors. Today though was much
different, it was a day that the two had decided to spar, they
stood on either side of the sparring ring with the rules set
both of them in their training attire. They looked across at
each other and merely watched not knowing who was first or who
was second just knowing that they would prove who was better.

How many times had his bare feet pressed into the mats of the
dojo during various training exercises in the last decade? He
could not tell, but the resounding pounding in his chest let him
know that this time was different than the others. Today he
would put years of practice to a test with an equal. Sliding
left foot forward and bending his knees so his center of gravity
would be lower the man let out a long breath of air while
pulling his right arm back to his hip fist balled and extending
his left so his palm faced his friend. It was a defensive
stance, but in his experience those that move first often were
not capable of making the last move or ever moving again.
Prepared now for assault in his mind he made plans, if his
friend was to attack high he would attempt to counter with a
kick, if his friend attacked mid or low it would be a sweep to
block with the left hand and a punch to the midsection with the
right. If his friend attacked from the sides he had similar in
mind as he had confidence in his ability to move his body to
follow even the most spry of students of the past.
