Max and Reika Misc RP
By: Sabby Date: January 14, 2014, 6:12 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Reika resisted as much as she could the pull toward
consciousness. She kept her eyes closed determinedly, stuffing
her face into the pillow for a few good minutes before she
grumbled, pulling herself into a sitting position. Her agitation
rose as she noted the moon was up, not the sun, and the rest of
the world seemed dead asleep. Feeling the last threads of sleep
unravel, she dropped feet to the floor, and shuffled to her
closet. Throwing on a simple shirt and jeans, the young woman
looked from her shoes to her fluffy slippers. 'No one's gonna
see you... It's the middle of the night...' her mind reasoned.
Wrestling the idea for one more moment, she shoved her feet into
cold faux-leather heels and left the townhouse. Once outside,
she was thankful for her decision as her heels served to be the
only noise in an eerily quiet city. She click-clacked down the
street without much direction or purpose, until she came to her
usual place. Ernie's Diner was almost always busy, except during
these hours when she was the only person awake. He had been the
first person to really talk to her in this neighborhood, and
sympathized with her sleeping habits, thus allowing her to come
here when she felt like. She looked in the window, her crimson
red eyes reflecting nearly like a mirror image off the glass.
Seeing no one inside, not even Ernie, she hurried inside and
closed the door, before making a beeline for the small bookcase
in the corner. Picking a book was not difficult, her favorite
currently was Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
She plopped down in a booth near the window, although this was
pointless as her long, curly brown hair fell in her view of the
window. As she read, she tapped her foot under the table
carelessly, her nightly routine beginning.

Maximus slowly walked down the street as his black boots quietly
hit against the ground with every step; enjoying the silence of
the night air. Slipping one hand in the pocket of his unzipped
coat as he passed a diner. Slowly dragging his fingers over the
glass that was the window to look into the diner. Stopping for a
moment before he turned his head to look into the seemingly
closed diner. Though, he saw a single person sitting at a table
within the diner. Perhaps they weren't closed. Maybe he could
manage to get some coffee to liven up his night a bit? He only
knew it was worth a shot; slowly making his way to the door.
Slipping his hands from his pocket as he pushed the door open.
Taking only a few steps into the door way as it closed behind
him; looking to the woman who happened to be reading a book. He
opened his mouth to speak, but, quickly stopped himself. Not
wanting to interrupt her book. Slowly wandering over to a table
and taking a seat. Crossing one leg over the other as he
adjusted his glasses; his blue eyes slowly drifting shut.
Enjoying his moment in peace as he awaited for some for of
worker to come into the room.

Reika's ears perked up at the sound of the door opening,
although she did not move other than to make more of an effort
to look through her hair at the intruder. Hearing nothing, she
looked up. He was sitting, looking rather expectant. "Sorry to
disappoint, there's no workers here. Just me. I can grab you
something though."
Saying this as she got up, she eyed the doorway around to the
kitchen and then through to the other side of the bar, but
instead opted to just heave herself as delicately as she could
over the counter, careful not to knock over the various bottles
on the other side. Something in the back of her mind always
questioned things like that, like how she was able to be so
quick and delicate, almost frighteningly so. Shaking it away,
physically shaking her head for a moment, she turned back to the
man. "Soooo....... Espresso? Cappuccino? Latte? Irish coffee?
What do you feel like?"

Maximus' blue eyes slowly opened as he heard the woman speak.
His eyes slowly drifting over to look at her with a bit of
confusion. If there was no workers why was she here? Apparently
she must have known the owner of the place. Something he did
not. Feeling slightly unsettled by the fact he was hesitant to
answer her. Thinking for a moment before finally speaking in a
calm tone; standing up from his table. "Do you own this place?"
With that he slowly walked towards the bar. Reaching up to
gently slide his glasses off of his face; folding them up and
slipping them into a pocket hidden on the inside of his jacket.
Removing his jacket to reveal his long sleeve undershirt.
Placing the thin jacket on the bar as he sat on one of the
stools in front of it. Looking around for a moment before he let
out a sigh; disregarding his previous statement. "It doesn't
matter, really... Just get me anything to put a little more of a
pep in my step. Could be even a soda if that is what you have."
He brought his shoulders up into a distant shrug before crossing
his arms over the bar. "So, I see you are reading
Frankenstein... Heh... Good story." He could only chuckle a bit
at the sheer irony of her reading that exact story at this exact
time.

"Mmm... Okay! If that's what you want! How about some old time
soda?" Not waiting for him to reply, she poured the carbonated
water in a tall glass before pouring various fruity syrups in
with it. By the time she was done, it looked rather like a
tie-dye shirt of some sort. Placing it carefully in front of
him, she laughed at his question, her laugh a little too loud,
and maybe a bit deeper than the cute giggle most men seemed to
find attractive. "No, no no no no. I don't own the place. I'm
friends... Sort of.. With the owner. He was nice to me when I
got here, and I have a messed up sleeping situation, so he told
me I could hang out here when I couldn't sleep. Why are you
here? Or at least, why are you awake?" Very, very slowly she
raised her big, friendly eyes to him, hoping he wouldn't go
fleeing from the place when he saw her eyes. She wasn't sure
what was wrong with them, but the intense red color seemed to
put people off very strongly.

Maximus nodded as she spoke of an old time soda; watching as she
prepared the drink. Reaching down into his pocket and pulling
out two grumbled dollars. Slipping the bills onto the bar before
reaching out and gripping the drink. Slowly moving the glass in
circles in his grip as he watched the colors blend together.
Slowly taking a sip before his blue eyes turned back to her own
deep red eyes; a slight chuckle escaping his lips. "Me? Oh, I
just... Issues at home, you know?" As he thought about his words
his eyes slowly drifted back down into his drink; continuing to
mix and blend the colors with the circular shift of his drink.
Speaking in that same calm tone that this time held a hint of
absentminded curiosity. "I never knew red eyes could look so
friendly... My brother has eyes like that... I did too at one
point...." He quickly downed half off the glass before placing
the drink back onto the hard bar top. Placing his elbow onto the
hard bar as he leaned his soft cheek on the palm of his hand.
Lazily holding his head up as his eyes drifted up her body;
trying to figure her out. "How, may I ask, did you acquire eyes
like that? It isn't exactly a human trait. Or even animal at
that. So, humor me." Once his eyes reached her own his eyebrow
cocked up a bit. "Are you a Frankenstein?"

She eyed the dollar bills on the counter top before gently
flicking them back in his direction with a smirk. "Pfft, are you
deaf? I said I don't work here. Just being friendly!" At his
questioning of her eyes, and if she was a 'Frankenstein,' she
smiled down at his glass as she grabbed it and began the process
again, producing another soda in a minute. "Well, no, I'm not a
mad scientist. The monster never got a name. And as far as the
odd eyes go... I don't remember. I don't remember anything from
before I was a teenager. And I had red eyes then, too. Most
people seem solidly convinced I'm a vampire, but the only
evidence of that is the eyes and the... The sun thing." She
wrinkled her nose, an annoyed expression briefly crossing her
face. She held one arm out from behind the bar, her wrist turned
up, where a painful-looking rash of raw blisters marred her
nearly translucent skin. "I'm allergic to sun or something. It's
shit. That's from leaving the blinds in my bedroom open once.
But I don't drink blood! As far as I know. I black out
sometimes, so maybe I do then... But then I'd wake up bloody-"
She stopped her rambling with a screeching halt, realizing she
was rambling. Copying his posture, she asked him, "What about
you? Why did you used to have red eyes? And why don't you now?"

Maximus let out another chuckle as she spoke once more; reaching
out and grabbing the bills from the bar top. Quickly slipping it
back into his pocket. Turning his attention back towards her;
only for her to start rambling. Something about vampires, sun,
and blood. A story he was pretty familiar with, though, not his
own story. Adjusting in the stool to sit up once more. Grabbing
his drink to take a small sip; contemplating his reply to her
words. "I suppose you are right. The 'monster' was never given a
name. But, does the child not inherit the father's last name?"
He could only laugh at his own words; crossing his arms on the
bar with a slight smile. His attention turning to face the rash
like burn on her wrist. "I've met a few vampires in my time.
They aren't everything that people paint them to be... They are
a proud race. Not necessarily blood thirsty monsters..." His
hands gripped to the drink once more as he easily took another
sip; thinking for a moment. Only to continue speaking in his
usually calm, almost bored, tone. "Read a little further into
that book of yours and you will know everything you need to
about my story. I played both the role of the monster and the
mad scientist. Different process, of course, but, the result is
the same, I assure you. And as for how my eyes got this way...
Well, that part of the story is a little more complicated. Let's
just say it was a gift from my son...." he chuckled a bit after
the word 'son' left his lips. Unable to think of any other word
to describe his nephew beyond that.

"I am NOT a vampire!" Reika said the words so firmly she almost
could believe them. Taking a deep breath, she composed herself,
and spoke again after listening to his words about being a
monster. "No. no. If I'm going to hear your story I want it from
you, not open to interpretation." A smile crept over her lips as
she looked at him longer. Something about getting to know new
people, even if they weren't actually telling her anything,
always made her happy. Her waking hours really didn't allow for
much interaction, so times like this were rare; if she were
being honest, she would say she was quite lonely.
