Beralai watched with a suppressed smile as Ambrosia whisked the
coin away, admiring it before letting Medea have it. He tilted
his head a fraction as he watched her go off, wondering what had
piqued her curiosity. His penetrative gaze catching the back of
Medea, seeing her start walking along some tracks and he moved
forward to catch up, realizing that they were going to take a
different route; hopefully for discretion for entrance, and not
an ambush. How they were treating and talking to him, he doubted
the latter, but one could never be too careful. His eyes
watching the back of her head, seeing her gaze go out to the
forest as his eyes followed, searching in vain for what she was
seeing.
After a moment, he gave up, figuring she was lost in though.
With how she conducted herself earlier, the air of certainty and
knowing, it was lost now. He had to avert his eyes for a moment,
staring at the ground for fear of picking up more information
than that. His eyes caught how tightly she had been gripping
onto his coin, as if it was the only anchor she had left to this
world. This intrigued and worried him. She had held such
confidence earlier, and now she seemed as brittle as dry wheat,
ready to break from that change of wind. He inhaled through his
nose, his eyes closing for a moment as he focused, pushing all
in his mind to the wind. Death's Embrace was near. He opened his
eyes, realizing that someone was about to to pass, if they had
not been taken with the wind's current already.
Beralai continued to follow her through the different tracks and
tunnels, easily memorizing the route to himself as they wandered
through, taking a note of the quick right after the last tunnel.
Beralai nodded his head to her as she smiled to him. His prying
eyes seeing the (although well hidden) pain within her eyes. He
listened, smiling to himself as she told him to be as stealthy
as possible. He withdrew his blade from it's sheathe, doing so
slowly and deliberately to show he was not doing so
threateningly. As the blade escaped it's prison within the
sheathe, the light around Beralai noticeably shifts and bends
until he was no longer in view. The blade playing with the
natural light, shifting how other's perceive the light around
him, rendering him "invisible." "Not being noticed is my
specialty." A hint of amusement within his voice.
He went before her, following her through the corridor's until
coming upon a door. He watched her hesitate for a moment, a
thought crossing his mind about what could be in there. Was it
the winds of change he smelled earlier? Or something else? He
went in first at her prompt. His eyes taking in the room in a
moment, taking notice of what lay where. Where any available
doors or windows were, and any possible threats. Beralai watched
as she went about her room, searching rather frantically he
thought before coming to a closed door. Watching her open the
door, he knew what she saw just as well as if he'd seen it
himself. Her eyes widening, the pupil dilation of recognition
and the pain. He watched as she disappeared from view into the
bathroom. Wondering what he should do.
It occurred to him, that now may not have been the best time to
make a voyage, at least, to this Keep. A member of the family is
dead. He's an unknown person, who could be very easily blamed
for her death from the paranoia of the the King alone. He
sighed, leaving his blade in his hand to keep him concealed from
any onlookers. He made his way to the bathroom door and looked
inside for a moment, wondering what was happening. He watched as
she began to obsessively clean. The smell of venom and blood
assaulting his senses and he glanced away, more out of respect
than revulsion.
He placed his blade within his sheathe, walking away from the
bathroom as he snapped back into visibility. His eyes taking in
a more detailed runover of the room. His gaze catching what he
knew to be different toxins and poisons, mainly from their
smell. A small curve of his lip in a smile, he turned away. He
left the world of toxins a long time ago, they no longer suiting
his needs. After a good moment, he sat himself near the window
of the room. Allowing himself a quick exit if necessary.
Finally Medea came back out, he could see how numb she looked.
Drained, vitality gone. His heart pained to see the hurt.
Knowing the pain all to well of finding a family member dead. He
shook his head at her statement, his voice soft and reassuring.
"You don't owe me a thing, Miss Medea. But I am here to listen,
if you would like to talk." His gaze catching her's at the end
of the statement.

The cherry dress that clung to her figure seemed to get tighter
by the minute; seemed to make breathing harder, like the air had
to overcome an obstacle or figure it's way through a puzzling
maze before reaching her lungs; she needed to get out of the
ball gown that now seemed ridiculous to wear so with the
heaviest of hearts and the most dismal of strolls she finds
herself at her cupboard, almost instantaneously reaching for the
darkest item of clothing she owned; a black dress – not only
fitting the occasion, but her ambiance also.
Though she had taken the task upon herself to clean her sisters
body and the proof she had left behind, it still hadn't dawned
on Medea that the barer of wind had departed from this
clandestine life they lived and she knew the time would come
where it would hit; the pain would devour her heart wholly; it
will be worse than the strikes of a thousand swords and so she
looks over at Beralai with an overwhelmed sigh and nods,
silently. The typically outspoken, confident woman was
speechless, for once in her life and pouring her heart out to
the stranger before her seemed like a the most rational thing
right now, but how could she vocally describe the extent to
which she felt worthless?
The frock that she wore seemed silly now and being
unappreciative of the fine things she owned, Medea grasps her
crimson gown before nodding in the direction of the bathroom.
"Let me get changed. . . I might just take you up on that." Her
words were still tinted with that trademark humor, despite the
situation, before heading into the bathroom slowly. As she takes
the garment off, a little weight is lifted from her, enough to
make breathing a little easier, but was this really due to the
dress or her finally accepting her sisters passing away? She
stares, for a moment at her true, naked form, furrowing her
brows at her dull reflection, only to watch it do the same. What
was she expecting; the mirror to defy her mood and lift her lips
into a smile? Shaking her head at her own absurdity, she slips
the black dress on, also letting her hair down, watching it hang
over her shoulder in small loose curls as it frames her face,
before making her way out, shutting the door closed after
looking over the resting body in the tub, and taking her place
on a singular settee only a few inches from the man. She was now
not the busy woman fretting over her sisters, but a calm Medea
not many people got to see.
"I don't even know where to start. . . "A faint smile depicts
her disheartened nature before she lets the memories of her
mother, and sisters cloud her vision, taking her time with her
words, her tone sad and longing almost, for the childhood she
never got to have.
"Life, is really cruel, Beralai." His name slipped from her lips
as if he had been a long lost friend. "It took my mother, and
now my sister. I was only a child back then, but life didn't
care; she placed on me burdens that a ten year old couldn't
handle back then, she gave me responsibilities and priorities
and while Helena helped a lot, there was always something
missing, you know?" Her heart beat in her chest rapidly, cheeks
a flushing red as the wonderful montage of her mother and
siblings was disrupted by the king, the mighty Achelous;
irritating Medea. "Her death took its toll on all of us,
especially the king; it's the sole reason for the gates around
the land. He doesn't let us see what is outside of this world,
what magnificent things there are, that are far beyond our
imaginations because he thinks it to be dangerous. My sneaking
you in could get me in trouble, but. . ." Her eyes try to
pinpoint his, the mask not letting her do so, "I do not regret
it the slightest."
Taking a deep breath, she leans back, the smile that had
occupied her lips during the speech widening a little; though
she hadn't interacted with foreigners, anyone would see that
Medea had a charm to her, a charm unlike any other. She let it
fall into her tone, her movements, her sharp sapphire gaze. "It
is the reason Mia took her life, but let's not dwell on that, I
don't want you to feel out of place. Tell me of the things
outside my world and in yours?" It was a question and a
statement all the same; Medea wanted to know of his life, of who
he is, of what he is, of why and how Beralai had come upon their
lands; ignoring the constant worry in her heart as she awaits
his answer.
She wanted to delve into a fantasy that he would create; the
woman wanted out of this trapped room and as she gazes at the
male only a few inches away, she wishes she could see him for
what he truly is, not covered by pieces of cloth or a mask, but
his true form; Beralai, himself.

Helena would have intervened; getting between Medea and Beralai
for her obvious disregard for father's wishes in sneaking the
man in. She would have expected the guards to stop them quickly,
but in all of the fuss - or just pure laziness- they haven't
seem to notice her actions with the man. Helena was distracted
by the sudden feeling of loss that loomed through the air;
death, despair, pain, yet the feeling of freedom and happiness.
There was a happiness within the air, though Helena always
seemed to find the idea of death as a happy affair; it wasn't
sad and somber for the ones who died, only the people who were
left behind. Turning around, she came face to face with her
passed sister: Mia. She looked happy, yet pained as well. She
got to return with mother, yet left her sisters behind; such a
double edged sword. "Go. Be with her. Get to see the wonderful
woman we have learned to love and embrace. We're sorry you
haven't had the chance to know her; which makes this death
strange to us." The woman said to her sister's spirit before
whisking her hands and absorbing a piece of her. "You don't feel
what you've done was right, but you also felt that you had to do
it. You were sad, depressed, lonely? You felt that death was a
release from your daily torment? Now, the people you left behind
feel like you did...Go forth.." She said as Mia's spirit
vanished.
There, Helena was on the other side, awaiting the passing of
Mia. The land was dark and cold, yet held a certain happiness to
it. "People like to say that death is the end. The end all be
all; nothing more. But, here, we see it as a new beginning, a
new life. Do not be afraid, Mia... We're not happy with your
decision, but we cannot judge you. We can only send you to where
you belong in your new life.." After she spoke, Helena waved her
hand painting the canvas of darkness into a wide wilderness;
trees, grass, mountains, and even streams as far as the eye
could see. The sun was bright, but not too hot, the breeze was
perfect and even whipped and whirled around the awe-inspired Mia
as if inviting it's mistress home. "You will not be alone here,
you will be happy here; no more will you worry about Father and
his kingdom, for you will have your own.." She told her sister;
her voice a ghastly tone. "She's here, Mother..." Helena said,
reaching out and seemingly grasping a woman out of thin air by
the hand. It was still so soft and warm; she could remember the
feeling of these hands wiping the hair from her face. The lips
pressing so firmly upon her forehead before backing away. The
resemblance was uncanny; for Helena favored mother the most in
facial features, but Medea in body. Liah in eyes and Mia in
hair... (Correct me if I'm wrong. :P )
The woman stepped out toward Mia; her gaze was affectionate and
warming. Tears streamed down the woman's eyes as she pulled Mia
into a tight embrace before pulling Helena into one as well.
They hugged for what seemed to be hours; though in this realm,
time does not exist. "Peace be with you both. We're sorry,
Mother..." She said to her mother and young sister before
returning back to the world of the living. Mia and Mother will
live on happily, awaiting for the others to come and join them
for the rest of eternity. But for now, she would await her turn
to travel to the endless void of death for good.
The crowd, of course -people who always thought Helena was
strange and scary anyway- would no doubt see her talking to
'nothing'. But they didn't dare say anything, else they meet
their demise in the strangest of ways soon after; especially in
the mood Helena has been in today. Turning to make her way back
into the castle in which she would return to her room. If anyone
needed her, they would know where she was located. The soft
frills upon the bottom of her dress seemed to dance in a subtle
wind that no one else could feel, her dark hair roamed and
bounced as well. She didn't see any of her sisters as she made
her way to the castle; only the one lady who always seemed to
drool over her father's presence, which caused Helena's lips to
curl into a snarl as she passed by. As she made her way inside,
Helena headed to her room; this festivities had taken a dark
turn and lost all of it's importance. Not only with her father's
proclamation and her sister's death, which to Helena, wasn't as
sad as others had thought it to be.

And then, like an angel expulsed from heaven Del’or appeared.
What would she do without Del’or by her side? Never ‘there’ but
as accessible as oxygen itself. All that Calliah had to do was
think of that beautiful lack of existence and in the blink of an
eye there she was. Holding on to her with a cool grip that
Calliah was glad to be the only one to –almost- feel. A
blindfolded face that only Liah could visualize and even change
if she wanted to, but why would she do such a thing? Del’or had
the privilege of being whatever she wanted to be and was quite
beautiful.
With a sigh Calliah continued to walk away from the festivity,
lifting her free hand to place it gingerly over her shadow’s. A
gesture that to others would look as if Calliah were pressing a
hand over her own wrist since there was no one besides her. In
this plane of existence, Del’or was nothing but a two
dimensional print. Sometimes a dark mist, others a mirage. A
ghost, for the simple minded. “My dear Del’or, I just heard
something horrid from one of my sister’s shadows… Mia’s to be
exact and… and it said that she was planning to end her life. I
am not sure if I should believe it or… or what should I do. I
will most definitely go talk to Medea about this.” Calliah
continued to walk as far away from the population as possible.
Heading towards the chapel since it was the only place where she
truly felt at peace. Talking to ‘herself’ out loud without
caring if someone would see or hear what she were talking about.
People rarely acknowledged her presence. “If there is someone
who knows what to do, it is mother-in-a-jar… But Del… My sweet
Del… Should I maybe confront Mia first? Should I ignore what
that shadow said? You know how treacherous shadows can be some
times. Especially one who is tied to one of my loved ones. They
know that I can’t just feed them to you or pry them away without
hurting the other… My heart is so heavy Del’or… I do not know
what else I could possibly do---“ But just then, another shadow
appeared around the corner. The dark silhouette of a female
clearly printed on the wall, the difference was that there was
no one who could have produced this shadow. This new shadow
boomed in her head. Her tone was stern and authoritarian,
belonging to someone of power. ‘Mistress Calliah, Medea seeks
your assistance. She needs a diversion, something to keep one of
the guards at bay.’ Hmm, well this was interesting. “Show me.”
Demanded the woman and extended a hand towards the shadow,
watching it quickly detach from the wall and start to crawl up
the veins. Making them look like if her blood were coagulating.
A dark substance that continued crawling up the female’s
forearm, arm, shoulders, a side of her neck, one of Calliah’s
cheeks and finally reaching the little veins over the white of
her eyes. Forcing her eyes to turn completely dark and only then
she could see what the shadow had witnessed. The masked man. Her
sisters united. Medea inviting interesting male into their
kingdom. The annoying guard. Finally her eldest sister commanded
the shadow to look for Calliah. The third eldest closed her eyes
for a few seconds, when she opened them? They were back to
normal and the shadow was gone. “Let us go Del’or. I would like
you to resemble the shadow of a male. Strong and defined enough
so that he could see you from his post. I will run towards his
post and you can follow me as if you were seeking to do me harm.
I am sure all that Medea needs is for the man to turn his back
if even for a second. She is pretty quic---“ But just then the
stench of death and the stillness of the wind made the hairs on
the back of her neck raise up like a scared feline. And her
world? Her world froze.
One… Two… Three… The wing started to blow again ever so subtly,
as if mourning.
“Mistress Calliah!! Miss Calliah!! She did it!! Come quick
because she did it! She ended her life.”
Oh, no…
For a second she hesitated. Taking a step forwards and two step
back. What… What in the world could she do? “I am… I… We… The…”
What could she do?! Her mind could not process the news. One
didn’t need to have special powers to feel the heavy weight of
death that was poured over the kingdom. One didn’t need to be a
clairvoyant to foresee what was going to happen next… All that
she could do was press a hand to her stomach, pinch one of her
virgin earlobes and start to tug it like she used to do a long
time ago. When certain mannerisms started to appear after their
mother’s death. Usually triggered by stressful situations or
strong emotions. Accompanied by heavy stuttering or twitches.
Little actions that she could overcome with the help of her
sisters and with the patience of time. Medea taught her to hold
her breath, count to ten and slowly take a breath. That helped
with her stuttering since it calmed her down and gave Calliah’s
brain the space to think and formulate complete sentences.
Nothing would help now though. “I…Uhmm…I…I….I’m…” Hazel eyes
started to finally water. She could feel a mixture of pain and
emptiness start to bubble from within. Now there was only one
person that could do something to change this and of course
THOSE people were Helena.
The woman turned around and finally let go of her earlobe,
running even further away from the forsaken party and towards
her father’s castle. This was his entire fault… if he would have
given them more liberty… if he would have tended to the needs of
Mia’s exuberant heart… Mia was a dove that he placed on the palm
of his hand and held on to it so tightly that its head popped
out. Her father’s insecurities killed their sister. The second
youngest; their ‘breath of fresh air’.
However Calliah ran towards Helena’s room in hopes of finding
her eldest sister there. If not, she had no idea what to do…
Probably pace outside the room until she either fainted from
exhaustion or someone appeared. Liah’s sanity had escaped the
second that she heard those words. ‘She did it. She ended her
life.’ The girl didn’t even have the courtesy of knocking on the
door, Calliah simply pushed the pair of doors open and stepped
inside. Tears streaming down her face without control. At first
the tears left faint traces of black –that were now only grey
highlights- that had been rinsed out by some more salty sorrow.
As soon as her body came to a halt the mannerism returned. A
hand pressed on to her flat stomach firmly as if keeping it from
falling apart and the other hand moved immediately to one of her
earlobes, tugging harshly as she spoke. “I-I-Is it tr-tr-true?
Helee--ena?! Sh-She told m-m-me… Sh-she did…” Calliah said
looking at the figure of her eldest sister with the weirdest
expression. With lost glossy eyes that seemed as lost as her
lack to process words. Well, finally someone was tempting
unintentionally to out-crazy Helena.

Since the celebration began, Arsen had not spoken a word... He
had very little to eat. For the most part, he tended to his cup
and observed. Things were ugly. Moods were up and down, things
were happening that were horribly timed. Arsen's abilities were
particularly put together for the purpose of attaining
information. Medea was keeping a secret. The wretch had actually
snuck a man into her chambers! At a time like this no less! It
was laughable! The youngest, Mia, had taken her own life. The
King had announced his remarriage, which made the girls even
more upset... It seemed that there wasn't much to celebrate...
and yet the party continued. But the good times still hadn't
come to an end. The King had plans of his own. And even Arsen
wasn't particularly happy about this one... Well, they would
lead him to a position of greater power in the Kingdom, but what
would he have to sacrifice for that to come to fruition? The
King's personal interrogator would be leaving soon, but there
was something he had to wait on first. So for now, he remained
silent, just watching as everything fell apart..

Distress, sadness, sorrow; the pain of loss was radiating
through the kingdom this moment and the King, the oh so great
father, was none the wiser. What means do this walls have if it
cannot protect the ones who reside within from the ones within.
It was all a lost cause, but what could you do? A king who's
absolute rule is more important than the happiness of his own
family. Thoughts ran through Helen's mind as she decided now
would be appropriate to have a change of clothes and then tend
to grounds; there will be quite a back lash as the news sweeps
through the nation. Halfway through changing, her doors swung
open and as she turned, she held her chest to hide from the
intruder. It was her sister, crying, tears casting salty trails
followed by the eye liner that accentuated her pretty features..
Her nervous twitches was evident and it befell Helena to tell
her the news that she was sure Liah already knew. "Yes.. She
ended her own life..." Helena told her, grief and sorry not
laced within her voice. After finishing informing her little
sister of the news; ensuring her that it was correct, her fears
came to fruition, Helena started to search for clothes.

With a sigh, deciding to end the silence, he stood from his seat
and picked up his scepter; beginning the walk to one of the
hardest announcements he'd ever have to make. It wasn't every
day you had to announce horrible news, especially regarding your
own daughter. With a heavy heart, though, knowing it needed to
be done, the patriarch had to carry out this task; a life
altering announcement. Finally, having made his presence felt as
only he could, having stepped through the colossal doors, he was
above his kingdom; looking down upon his subjects. The king
would ensure this was truly a day of days, one that would see
three major things happen; an unprecedented happening of
events.. unfortunate as one was.
When, finally, he spoke, the king's voice would echo throughout
the lands; carrying his message to every corner of the empire as
though on the wings of an angel. "My royal subjects!" He called
forth, putting a silence over the people. "This.. is a tragic
day.. it seems.." He was already struggling to contain it, but
knew it must be done. ".. that my youngest daughter.. Mia.. has
died." he paused, unwilling to allow his people to see their
king shed tears. "She was a princess to you people, to this
kingdom... a queen to me. From the day she was born, I believe
she's held all our hearts. It is with a heavy heart that I say..
That she... is dead.. " With a sigh, recomposing himself, he
nodded to noone as if approving something. "When the one
responsible for this tragic loss is found, he or she.. will not
face death.. Instead.. their entire family will be put to death
in various ways such as being drawn and quartered, hangings, and
beheadings. Then, the wretched creature responsible for her
death will face lifetime enslavement, and when they die, or
perhaps before, their body will be fed to the wolves. This
tragedy, this injustice, this catastrophe cannot.. will not..
shall not go unpunished!"
Now, taking a few moments to calm down, the king spoke again;
licking his lips. "As king of these lands, I hereby decree that
from this point forward, that the first day of the week will be
changed to Miaday, in honor of the fallen princess. Next, each
of my remaining daughters shall have a day as well." Then,
grinning, he waited for a moment before speaking again. "There
will be a curfew, and after curfew, the streets will be emptied.
One week from today, there will be a party at the castle.
Attendance is mandatory, clothing is not." Then, he paused and
began to pace about; thinking about what would be said next.. he
had one final bombshell to drop; something he was iffy about.
This one was almost as hard as the first announcement, but he
had to do it. "Also, I would like to hereby announce the
marriage of my daughter.. Medea! She will be married post haste,
to the man who will become her husband.." His mind, though, had
already moved to that woman who would become his wife.

Then the time finally came... The King's announcement. Arsen had
never known the King on a personal level, but he had gotten to
know the man well working directly under him as his personal
interrogator. The King was a man who put value in his power, and
often pushed it to the extreme. His emotions often spilled all
over the place when he attempted to express them, and yet he was
careful not to portray weakness. He was a complex man...
Arsen had to admit, it was tragic event. He and Mia had been
semi-friendly, unlike some of the King's other daughters... The
King clearly hadn't had much time to prepare a speech. He was
struggling to contain himself, and choose his words. In fact,
everything seemed to be on the fly. Miaday... The King had done
it again. Renaming the days of the week? Arsen couldn't help but
to chuckle. And that punishment. Ruthless and unreasonable... It
was something that Arsen actually loved about the King. It made
his job fun. He often got to experiment with different forms of
torture. He looked at the table as a somewhat sinister grin
formed in the corners of his lips.
His smile quickly faded, however, when the King mentioned his
arranged engagement to Medea. His fist balled up and he took a
deep breath. The thought of marrying that woman made his blood
boil. But it couldn't be avoided. In his own way, the King was
doing Arsen a favor in this arrangement. It ensured Arsen's
place in the Royal family, even should he pass away. Arsen had
seen all he needed to see though... He finished his drink and
rose to his feet. Now that the announcement was made, he had
nothing to wait on. He walked out of the room and began down the
hallway. There were things that needed to be addressed...

The shadowed, cloaked man had seemed to dissipate into the air,
with no answer, no remains to even prove his existence and place
in the very room, and Medea found it both interesting but almost
hurtful. Maybe he had expected the events that were to come,
unknown to the woman, that her Father had not only one, but two
announcements to make.
She watched, from her room, looking up at where the man stood,
in all glory on his gold pedestal, watching him almost lose his
usually calm demeanor; she knew how hard the King found it to
keep composure, but if he couldn’t, surely the girls wouldn’t be
able to either. It still stung her heart, but she contained her
emotions. She felt the jab in her ribcage, like a thousand
poisonous snake piercing her with their venom; she blamed
herself for their Mother's death and couldn't help blame herself
for Mia's death either, after all, it was in her room the girl
had passed away, and because of her potions and mixes.
The day was already too much to handle for the tall,
black-haired, blue-eyed porcelain doll, but at least breathing
was easier, chest lifting and falling ever so quickly under the
black garment, that was loose enough for space but tight enough
to put on show, her assets. After he had finished his first
speech, Medea was partly day-dreaming, until her name rung in
her ears, like a deafening scream, brows furrowing in confusion.
She was to be married? To someone she didn't love, but despised
too? Her father was going insane. Her eyes traveled through the
crowd as they clapped softly, in respect to her sister, but
joyous at the decision of the king; her sisters weren’t there
but she needed them now more than ever.
With a quick swift movement, she angrily twists her body, her
steps wide and fast as she makes her way hastily out of her
room, banging the door loudly behind her to be met with the
sound resonating through her halls. She continued pacing her way
through the castle, until she was met with what was to be
husband, her expression even angrier; her blood boiling at the
King's unintelligent choices; in the time of death, her father
became weak and dim-witted.
Standing, her arms crossed over her quickly rising and falling
chest, she puffs her cheeks out, and exhales deeply, staring at
him in denial, knowing all too well her father's decision wasn't
to be changed.

Surely enough, as soon as the young interrogator made it into
the hallway, his bride to be appeared before him. There was one
thing he had to admit. She was the sexiest creature he had laid
eyes on. But even with that fact, the very sight of her sickened
him. The look on her face... So High and mighty, as if she was
insulted to be paired with a man so low as himself... "No need
to act so upset, Princess." He practically spat the word
'Princess.' "It's not like there's any changing the Kings mind
anyway. May as well get used to the idea." He scoffed and
continued walking, certain that he would soon hear the footsteps
of his new fiancee behind him. She would surely have her input
to share, not that he cared to hear it. He had something to
check on, and it involved a trek across the Kingdom. He had only
come here to see if the King would truly follow through with
this arrangement, after all...
