Is There More to Life? - Role Play
By: Ghost of Writings of Old Date: January 7, 2014, 11:15 am

Buzz with the hustle of students returning from winter break
overtook the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill. Students reconnected
with classmates and friends after spending the month in their
respective hometowns. While I too enjoyed the presence of family
in Raleigh, I ultimately felt relieved to return to the
structure of the pharmacy curriculum. The new semester also
brought my resolution spend more time with my boyfriend, Bryant.
He understood the strenuous nature of the PharmD program as he
was entering his final didactic semester of this degree. We
spent what free time we had together but even then we hit the
books. Rarely did we have enough time to go out and enjoy what
       the area had to offer.
The sun shine over the campus encouraged me to take my time
unpacking car. I wanted to soak in every second of the warmth
before I spent the rest of my days indoors. As I brought the
third load up to my room, I remembered I promised to contact
Bryant when I arrived on campus. After setting the clothing on
the bed I took out my iPhone and texted him - On campus for the
long haul...again. I put the phone on its charger and continued
moving my possessions into my room while awaiting Bryant's
       response.

Break had been almost worse than school. Bryant had remained in
Charlotte, not willing or able to travel back to New York to see
his family. He had been to see Elizabeth only once over the
break, and even then, spending the night wasn't an option. In
fact, he had spent his break similarly to the way he spent his
semesters; studying He had looked forward to nothing more than
her return to campus. Her return meant a day with no classes
which he could spend with her. He awoke at a ridiculously early
hour, and had been unable to return to his slumber, so now he
could only watch as the clock moved ever-slower with each
passing minute. Until, finally, his phone went off! Of course,
It would go off at the most inconvenient at times.. Bryant
looked out his open bathroom door at the phone that lay on his
bed with an aggravated sigh. A flush and a hand wash later, his
reply would come. "Great! Let me know when you're ready to come
over. Funny how you realize that the moment you've been waiting
for often leads to more waiting... But at least there was
progress. He tried to distract himself with the episode of
"Mythbusters" on the TV, but he couldn't help but find his eye
drifting to his motionless phone several times a minute.
Meanwhile, back on campus, Justin was just arriving. His black
Nissan Maxima pulled up to the Student Union before even going
to his dorm. He had to check in at the SGA office for an event
that they would be throwing in a few days. Fifteen minutes and
he was on his way to Craige Hall. He was fortunate enough to
recieve one of the Single Rooms among the Suite style residence
hall this year. Freshman year he had a room mate, and while they
were cool, it was hard to find time to be alone. His Suite was
on the fifth floor, and all the way down the hall. So it wasn't
ALL good. But at least he was in a co-ed dorm this year! After
getting his room ready he headed out into the hallway toward the
vending machine. He always brought 20 dollars in singles on the
first day to fill his room with Gatorades for the upcoming
weeks. One drink after another, he gathered his drinks to take
back to his mini-fridge. This was going to be an AWESOME
       semester!
(sorry it took so long. my internet went out)

Returning back to my room with yet another bin of clothes into
my single bedroom apartment brought with it another check of my
phone. My eyes lit up with delight as I saw the text from Bryant
inviting me over. I looked at the slight mess that began to
accumulate in my room. Knowing no one would be visiting in the
near future, I decided to leave my paraphernalia in its current
location and make my way over to Bryant's. With renewed vigor I
replied to his text. "Leaving now. Unpacking can wait. Can't
wait to see you. :) " I grabbed my keys and laced up my most
comfortable shoes deciding to walk to Bryant's apartment. I made
my way out of Ram Village, stopping occasionally to exchange
pleasantries with those who resided near me. Today was about to
be a marvelous day. A day Bryant and I could spend completely
together without any interruptions. Our alone time was much over
       due.

Just the answer Bryant wanted. He didn't live far from campus so
it wouldn't take her long to arrive. He looked around the house
in inspection. This was probably the neatest she had ever seen
the place. Normally the place stayed a bit messy. The time it
took to do heavy cleaning was sacrificed for the purpose of
maintaining his studies. In the quiet of break, he had undergone
a full out clean sweep of the entire apartment. A part of him
wanted to put on something nice for her return, but he thought
it a bit much. He decided to remain in his shorts and black
shirt, as he waited. What would the two do? It had been ages
since they had this much free time all at once. Surely they
would come up with something. For now, the waiting game would
       simply continue..

Everyone experiences occasions where they desired time to speed
up or slow down. I'd rather it speed up to bring me to Bryant
faster. I will my legs to move faster almost breaking out into a
sprint. I then realize we never discussed what our plans were
for the day. I decided it ultimately did not matter. Both of our
lives were filled with an exorbitant amount of structure that
going a day doing what we want when we wanted to would be a
refreshing change. When we saw each other over break, we spent
the day in his apartment and walking the town of Chapel Hill.
Perhaps today we would have a little more adventure dotting our
day. My thoughts of potential options distracted me for the
duration of my walk and, in seemingly no time at all, I arrived
at my destination. A couple steps later I found myself standing
in front of his door fixing my hair and smoothing my t-shirt and
jean shorts. I knocked on the door excitement about seeing my
       boyfriend increasing exponentially.

Bryant would never admit to Elizabeth that his heart skipped a
beat when he heard her knock on the door. He wouldn't admit it
to anyone. But his increased heart rate surely would have given
it away, were it visible. He opened the door, but instead of
allowing Elizabeth to step inside, he stepped out toward her,
the door falling shut behind him as he wrapped his arms around
her and lifted her into the air. He spun her around twice before
placing her on the ground once more and planting a kiss on her
lips for the first time in weeks. "Hey there, gorgeous! God I
missed you!" Only once he was satisfied with their initial
greeting, did he open the door and invite her in. "How was the
rest of your break?" The usual array of questions. How's your
family doing. What'd you do. Blah blah blah.
Now that his mind was off waiting, Bryant realized that he
hadn't eaten all day. "Hey, Liz, If there's nothing you want to
do, I have an idea." He said with a smile. On their second date,
Bryant had cooked for her, and she had promised she would cook
for him one day. Unfortunately, they never got around to that.
"Let's cook something together!" Of course, making dinner
wouldn't take up the entire day, but they would have plenty of
time to enjoy each other's company. If nothing else, he would
be fine just being together and talking...

Everything about our initial interaction felt completely natural
after spending a couple weeks apart. My heart raced through my
chest as he held me to his rather chiseled body. His mere
presence awakened raw emotion and passion in me. Knowing I would
experience such feelings again propelled me through the time we
spent away from each other. My lips pressed against his in the
attempt to evoke all of the emotion I felt at this moment. After
stepping inside his apartment, I filled Bryant in about the
happenings of the past couple weeks. Nothing too amazing
happened but it was nice to see his interest in the happenings
       of my home life.
I placed my keys coffee table and gazed around the apartment
specifically taking note of the cleanliness. “I had no plans. I
figured we could just be together and live in the moment.” A
smile danced across my lips as my light blue eyes locked with
his. “Cooking with you sounds like fun! I did promise you I
would cook for you one day. I can cash in on that promise if you
would prefer.” I pushed a strand of hair behind my ears and
walked over to the sink to wash my hands before we get started.
“What were you thinking for dinner? Or do we have to go grocery
store because you’ve been so busy with the ROTC you’ve forgotten
to eat?” smirking after making the comment.

Living in the moment sounded nice. It meant Bryant didn't have
to try to plan an eventful evening without a clue as to what to
do. But for now, dinner would be a good place to start. "If
you'd rather do it without my help, I can just watch." His words
were laced with a tone that suggested he was sad, he even wiped
a fake tear from his eye and sniffed a couple times before
breaking into a laugh. Her statement about ROTC brought about a
chuckle. "I'll have you know I've eaten -two- times since you
left!" The word two was accented by a hand holding up two
fingers as a little kids would. "What's your best dish?" He
asked. Back when he had lots of free time, he had been a decent
cook. He couldn't wait to see what she came up with. Food was
always fun. "Let me know what you need. I'll just be your
assistant." As he prepared to get the ingredients she needed, he
was already thinking of things they could do next. "If there's
anything you need that I don't have, we can go to the store and
pick it up." Excitement was worked into the muscles of his face,
despite his attempts to play it cool. He had high hopes for the
rest of the evening, after all.

I walked over to Bryant, wrapping my arms around his neck, and
looked into his eyes. “You know I always come through on my
promises, Sir.” I chuckled slightly before pressing my lips
against his. I then winked before backing away and turning to
the refrigerator to search for some of my ingredients. “Do you
happen to have any ground beef, ricotta, mozzarella, and lasagna
noodles? I’m feeling Italian tonight.” Despite attempting to
have a calm demeanor, I felt increasing nervousness for making
this meal for him. I had complete confidence in his cooking
abilities with limited confidence in my own. I did promise him I
would cook for him and fully intended on doing as such. Worse
came to worse, we were in the middle of a college town so take
out wasn’t too far away. I turned around and looked at him. “Do
you happen to have any wine? It’s okay if you don’t I just
thought it would be a nice touch to our meal.” I knew wine would
cause me to lose some of my inhibitions; a requirement for
spending our first night alone in what felt like ages.

Bryant went through his mental roster of the ingredients in the
house. Ground beef, ricotta, mozzarella, and lasagna noodles...
"yeah, I have that stuff, but the beef is frozen. If you put it
in water it'll take about thirty minutes to thaw. So we'll
either have to kill time for a half hour or go pick up the meat
from the store. " He stroked his chin and chuckled to himself.
"What could we do for thirty minutes to pass the time?" He
planted another kiss on the young beauty's lips and smiled. "I
don't think I have any onions or anything like that though. I
don't know if you need it." He couldn't help but wonder how Liz
would prepare her lasagna. Surely her recipe wouldn't be the
same as his. The thought was exciting.
(I'm going to cover enough time to at least get you started
cooking next post. How you want to do it is up to you. xD)
