       Ashes to Ashes
By: Evil Kitty Date: October 2, 2013, 7:51 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
This was a town riddled with nothing but hate, fear, and death.
A town completely burnt to the ground. Every home. Every
business. Merely a pool of ashes counting every inch of the
ground. Yet... In this forsaken, scorched, town there is one
single quality the baffles the common homeless folk of this
town.. Ever day since the fire that began under the earth it has
snowed endlessly. The snow cloud never reaching the towns around
them. Only soaking up the, still hot, ground and keeping the ash
in place. Serving as a constant reminder of the tragedy that
happened in this area. Taking the once beautiful, prosperous,
town into a place of despair.
The adults of this town have all died off from the poison of the
ash into their small water supply. Those who did not die simply
left this horrid place. Leaving nothing but children left in
this tornado of despair. A day of sunlight never reaching these
children's fragile, pale, bodies. These children have set up
their own system of government and support through these tragic
times, though. Giving them some array of hope for the future.
For the day that they can get out of this misery.
This town was surrounded by thick woods covered in a mix of snow
and ash. No leaves, nor bark, visible under the blanket of white
and gray. Though, there is one man who always came to help these
children and this tragic town. A man known for his selfishness
and attitude. Why did he show these children pity? Why did he
choose to hep them? Who knows? But, either way, he chose to make
that decision. To do something better than himself. This man's
name was Xamphere Dominae. His hair as white as black as the
mixture on the hot ground. His eyes as red as the Devil himself.
He practically lived in this horrid town along with these..
       Common, filthy, children.
He looked over to the one child. The oldest with a cold glance
as the child hugged his sister. Who did not have the strength to
so much as embrace her brother. This despair leaving only a sigh
from his lips. The boy turning to Xamphere; his eyes begging for
help. Only for Xamphere to shake his head as he walked over.
Placing his hand upon the boy's shoulder. Speaking in a tone so
cold that it seemed as if his mind was no longer in his body.
Only a void. "If you can not lose the best thing you have you
will never live in happiness... It may hurt now, but, you will
grow stronger from it in time..." With that the clouds somehow
parted from a force unknown to the world. Only a thin ray of
moon light shining down upon the scorched Earth. Xamphere
slipping his hands from the poor boys shoulder and leaning down
to the sister. Placing his lips upon her forehead. "The moon
will always be here to kiss us goodnight... Shining a light in
the night... Always remember that, boy..." With that he stood up
and walked away from the two. He no longer wished to see such
sights. Walking down the street filled with piles of ashes
rather than homes. Though, it never changed. Only created more
       despair.

Ash. Acrid and stifling. That is how Kendall would describe the
area. She had heard the news of the town burning and the curse
that befell the land following the catastrophe; but she had not
anticipated the stories to be truth. Her hand covered her mouth
at the sight, her darkened eyes traveling over the burned and
scared skeletons of the former town. Never had she seen such
wreckage, nor known of any such curse.
Then they were the children. She had seen the scuttling about,
here and there, but none of them approached her. Perhaps they
did not enjoy outsiders, and that is what she was. But, she
wanted to help them, and any other survivors that may remain
here. However, each time she attempted to speak to the children,
they threw snow at her and ran in the opposite direction. After
a few days of this behavior, Kendall began to growl with
frustration and began to contemplate leaving the area
       altogether.
Until, her gaze fell upon the only other adult in the area,
besides herself. A man, hands and dark, who seemed to be able to
communicate with the orphans. Her feet carried her quickly in
his direction, as he retreated from two children in particular,
and her hand gently touched his arm. "Sir, what happened here? I
have heard the stories, but I did not give them much merit. And
what is this curse that remains." She huffed and bit her lip.
"And why will the children not speak with me!"

Rylani sat up panting. "Oh fucking god! What a horrible dream."
She folded her blanket and put it in her bag. It was time to
continue on. The feeling was stronger now. It wouldn't be long
before she reached her destination. Wherever that may be. With a
sigh she stood stiffly and continued on. She did not know where
she was headed, but she could feel it. The despair, the
loneliness, the hopelessness, the death, the loss, the grieving.
All of it. Something horrible had happened, and she was needed.
She found a road and the smell of ashes filled her nostrils. She
gagged a little but continued on. A man and woman were walking
past her weeping. "Excuse me?" They ignored her though. And
continued walking. She could tell she wasn't far now.
Whatever it was she was dreaming about fire, and ashes. And
children. Lost and alone and frightened. Why would people leave
their children? What could have possibly happened? Her feet and
body ached from walking for so long. But this was not a road she
dared travel any other way. Far too treacherous. She walked for
about a half hour more. She could smell the flesh of dead. It
was sickening. She could see the ruins of a town. As she neared
it she could see children. She touched some of them as she
entered. "Hello there. I'm here to help." But the children
shrugged her off and left her. She tried several children but
       none responded.
She pulled her bag off her shoulder and searched through it,
looking for food, water, something she could provide the
children. She heard voices. Her head snapped up and she looked
around calling out. "Hello?" She stood and began wandering
around trying to find whoever it was that was speaking. Finally
she came across a woman and a man, standing amongst the rubble.
This place was truly horrid. She didn't even like being here,
but she would because she was needed. "Excuse me. Do either of
you know what's going on here?"

"Fallen stars around the darkest moon. You aren't mad at me for
not telling, right Dark Moon?" Her appearance was uncanny and
uncalled for, almost as if she'd appeared from thin air when
she'd simply stepped from the shadows of a broken alleyway. A
woman displaying a clothing choice of both gothic yet skimpish
material. With a hood over her head, face slightly hidden, her
soft yet emotionless tone matched the dull colors of her
       wardrobe.
From her side rose her right arm and at its fingertips rest
sharp, ornamented claws that cradled the large orb with her free
hand against her chest. With hair as gray as the ash spoiled
snow, the pale figure spoke again to no one in particular as the
first woman to appear touched Xamphere. "It is not wise to touch
the Prince of the night sky, we are all just stars revolving
around him. I think it'd hurt his ego."

The one known as Xamphere continued walked; ignoring the usual
voices calling for help or attention. Needing his time to fully
process this entire horrible scene. Only to feel a hand place
itself upon the smooth skin of his arm. His body quickly turning
and metal forming over his index finger. Creating a razor sharp
claw with the point pressed lightly under the woman's chin. On
that oh so sweet weak spot everybody possessed. Just waiting for
a reason to kill the one who had touched him. Only for the metal
to melt from his skin as he had seen it was an innocent woman.
An outsider. His eyes were a deep, angry, glare that faded into
irritation as he heard her words. Pulling from her grip as he
turned away and looked around. His voice slipping out with the
undertone of irritation. "Do not touch me again... That will be
your only warning... Next time you die."
He quickly turned away from this woman with the idea of walking
away, but, could not bring himself to do so. Turning only his
head back to the woman to glare at her with a single red eye.
Speaking in that same irritated tone. Attacking her ignorance.
"Not all tragic stories are just stories... Sometimes the worst
tragedies are the most real.. These children lost their parents.
Their homes. They trust only their own. They have learned to
thrive all by themselves at such a young age because they could
not trust others to take care of them. This is why they do not
speak to you. You are just another potential problem.."
His attention was quickly caught by the entrance of another
woman after the first. Hearing her calls out to the children
with only an annoyed shake of his head. This children did not
take what was handed to them. If they wanted what was yours they
outnumbered all of them. They could easily take it from them.
The presence of others only causing them to hide in the shadows
of the night from these monsters. That was all they saw people
as. Monsters. With this thought he called out to the other woman
in reply to his question. "What happened here is none of your
concern. So, it is best that you just keep walking..." With that
he finally turned away from them and continued walking away. It
seemed as if today everybody wanted to fix a problem that could
       never be fixed.
As he walked he stopped in his tracks as her heard a familiar
tone. The tone of the one known as Caecus. A slight smirk
crossing over his lips. Two little boys running out of the
shadows and running around this woman; holding out their ash
covered hands as they attempted to tag each other. One boy's
rough voice echoing through the silence once he touched the
other's back. "You're it!" Only for them to disappear into the
darkness once more. It seemed these children fed very much off
of Xamphere's opinions of others. Trusting those he trust.
Xamphere turning back to the two women for a moment. "It is best
that the two of you heed this woman's warnings and leave... The
dark side of the moon can be rather... Cold." He turned back to
Caecus with that same smirk. "Glad to see they have adjusted to
       you, Cae."

She glared at the man when he told her to continue walking. She
turned to the other woman who approached. He seemed to recognize
her. She looked down at her ash covered shoes then turned to the
woman who had touched the man. Where had she gone? She seemed to
have simply vanished. She turned to the two that were in front
of her. "I'm not leaving. Something has drawn me here. I felt
the pulling of it. I do not intend to leave." She was utterly
confused as to what was going on because neither had given an
       answer. Just a warning.
The warning was not well accepted either. Not a lot frightened
her. She didn't even fear death. Which was part of the reason
she let herself be pulled here so easily. Even in death she
could do something right. Thus was her curse. She would be drawn
into places of sorrow. Even if there was no hope, she still had
to be there. It would cause her deep pain if she didn't at least
try. Thus was the curse set upon her years ago. When she thought
only of herself and no other. Now her own well being wasn't of
any importance compared to those of the helpless and the
       hopeless.

The visible portion of the woman's face didn't change in the
slightest as the two children so willfully played near her. The
woman showed nothing at all to hint that she even felt sorry for
the wild children at the center of a town's anarchy. She simply
turned towards the side, revealing the remaining pieces of her
hidden profile; a milky gaze stared at Xamphere, as if it
already knew where he was. "There is nothing to fear from the
blind, Xamphere. What would I do? Chase them?" The tone of her
words didn't change yet it was what she considered a joke. His
humor was lacking enough that perhaps he'd be able to get the
       dry context of her words.
The vanishing woman was as she'd expected so Caecus showed no
remorse or even surprise, instead she turned her opaque, violet
gaze upon the woman of many sorrows. "Such drastic need to meet
these unspoken pleas, it is advised that you do not try, Martyr.
This town of sorrow and dread is simply like the snow; it will
build and build in an never-ending winter." The orb within her
hands brightened just slightly, small swirls resounding with the
faintest of moaning agony inside before she stroked her clawed
fingers over it just slightly, soothing away the pain with just
a touch. "This is not the place for you to assist, Sorrowful
Mistress. You cannot catch this fleeting bird with bare hands."
She tilted her head just slightly, keeping the woman fixated
beneath a never-ending stare. "Or do you still wish to try?" As
       if she didn't already know.

He quickly grew irritated with this nosey woman's pokes and
prods to help or at least get answers. His body quickly turning
as his steps grew quick. His body immediately making his way to
hers with a quick pace. Only for those metal claw like gloves to
appear on each of his hands. Quickly gripping the woman's wrist
with a hard force. Moving her hand and placing it upon his hot
cheek. His eyes glaring into her own with both pain and anger.
Roughly keeping her hand pressed against the smooth flesh of his
cheek. Speaking in an angered tone. "Fine! You want to know what
happened to this town and it's inhabitants!? Why there is merely
children left to rein!?" With that a single tear slid down one
of his eyes but his expression of anger and hurt never changed.
He quickly moved her hand down to his chest. Gripping into his
own skin with the razor sharp steel claws to hold her hand
still. His voice continuing once more as he glared into her
eyes. "Me! This town was taken as sacrifice to create me! I am
not naturally born creature! I was formed by taking the blood of
others! A lot of it! My father took the blood of my mother and
his own blood! Using all most of these childrens' parents as
vessels! Body parts to be combined together into one beast along
with many other creatures! Only to give me life! And this town.
It was what happens when a creature such as myself is formed
with no way to suppress these powers! So, this is all because of
me! So, before you go and think you can help every problem you
face, remember, not all these problems are yours to face!" He
immediately threw the woman's hand off of his body with a growl.
"These children are my burdens to bare! This town is my burden
to bare! Do yourself a favor and get out of this Hell Hole while
       you have the chance!"
He could not longer bare to look at this woman anymore now that
he exposed his creation to her unintentionally. Turning away
from her as a very young child approached him and tugged on his
pants leg; sucking his thumb. Xamphere looking down to the child
with another tear slipping from his eye. The child looking up
with a curious smile as he spoke. "Why are you crying...?"
Xamphere only let out a huff as he shewed away the child.
Speaking in an attempt to make his voice sounds happier and more
cheerful. "Do not worry about me. I will be fine. I just have a
little pain in my chest is all..." The child quickly kissed
Xamphere's hanging hand and ran away. A bittersweet smile still
       played across his lips.
He looked once more back over to Caecus before his eyes darted
off away from her own milky eyes. Speaking in a low tone as he
looked at all of the piles of snow and ash. "If this woman
chooses to seal her fate and be stuck in this place... So be it.
I will not stop her from chasing an empty dream...." He looked
back over to her as he thought of her previous 'joke.' Opening
his mouth as if he was about to speak. Only to close his mouth
and let out a huff. Shaking his head as he walked over to the
girl that had previously died in her brothers arms. Kneeling
besides her and running his claws through her hair. Mumbling to
himself. "I remember you in past lives... I remember part of me
loved you... But, for the life of me I can not remember your
name... And I do not feel the true pain of your death... Why is
that?" He closed his eyes as he placed one more kiss upon the
       young girl's forehead. "Sleep well..."

Her initial arrival was meant as reconnaissance to determine the
true damage of the town, as her mother had instructed. What the
other's might not have realized, though, is that she did not
truly vanish. She remained, in between planes, to watch and
listen to those she had met. Kendall's mother would be
interested to know the workings of the curse, and those who
claimed the dark-side of the moon was cold; all of this
considering her mother was the personification of the moon
       herself.
With a sigh, and a swipe of her hand at her face, she returned
to the presence of the others. Her eyes had changed, losing the
dark pupils that had once been, and were now void of any color.
"I will touch whom I please," she said to both the man and the
strange woman. Though she regarded each one cautiously, she was
not tempered by fear. In fact, it was quite the opposite. Being
rather new to this world, she was rather curious. A sly smile
played upon her lips, her gaze switching from each of her three
companions and the random children that came and went.
"And you," she turned to the other woman who had arrived shortly
after she had, "do as you please, and allow no others to deter
you. Being guided by your feelings is quite noble, and tends to
be correct." Her smile brightened and her pupils returned to the
dark brown. Kendall did not like to display her heritage often,
without justification at least. "I am Kendall, or that is the
name I have chosen for myself. My real name shall remain a
mystery for the time being," she said and pointed toward the
moon, "unless she chooses to tell each of you."
