Devlin’s hands were moving up her thigh, getting closer and
closer and… Right at that exact moment Keaira barged in. A husky
sigh left his lips as his hands reluctantly loosened their grip
on Kennedy, who settled her legs back down. Heat was rising
beneath her skin, and Devlin only chuckled, his arms locked
around Kennedy’s waist as they were ushered out of the room by
their daughter.
Kennedy was just about to leave when Keaira tacked a surprise on
the end. Immediately she stopped in her tracks and shoved her
way back into the room and out of Devlin’s grasp, an amused
expression on his face. “I can say the same about you, my
darling daughter. I know how Brad’s cute butt affects you.” A
light chuckle left her lips, Devlin’s arms wrapping almost
possessively around her waist and dragging her away from Keaira.
Once outside the room Devlin shut the door softly behind them,
lips immediately on Kennedy’s and eager to pick up when they
left off. Kennedy giggled into the kiss, her hands moving to his
chest to gently push him away. “I think it’s enough of that for
now. Besides, I’ve got to finish my shower.” It most definitely
wasn’t a suggestion, as she wanted to prepare herself for when
Brad gets over so they could all sit down for dinner together,
but Devlin definitely took it as one. His deep voice whispered
into her ear, sending shivers down her spine. But Kennedy only
shook her head, moving out of his grasp and bounding quickly up
the stairs and into his master bedroom to get to the bathroom
where she locked the door behind her so he couldn’t get in.
Before he could even get after her she flipped the shower back
on and hopped in, washing her hair thoroughly this time before
emerging once again, steam clouding the mirror.
Kennedy wrapped her body in a dry towel, emerging in a cloud of
steam to see Devlin lounging on the bed with a pair of athletic
shorts and a cotton white tee shirt, out of the suit he had been
wearing before. Her eyes spotted her duffle bag on the floor at
the foot of the bed – he must have brought it up while she was
in the shower. She rummaged through it and pulled out what she
would need: underwear, a white tank top, and a pair of denim
shorts. With the clothes in hand she returned back to the
bedroom and put everything on, tossing her hair up in a high
ponytail as she didn’t want it to air dry and get frizzy.
When she got out Devlin wasn’t there anymore, and the door to
the bedroom was wide opened. Kennedy left the bedroom and went
down the stairs in search of him, finding him rummaging through
the refrigerator. She wormed her way in front of him and slapped
his hands away from the food he was just about to grab. “Wait
for Brad; we’ll all have dinner together at the table.” Before
Devlin could complain about being hunger now, Kennedy reached
onto the counter to take an apple from the food bowl and shoved
it into his opened mouth. “Have a light snack, but that’s all
you’re getting until then.” She gave him a stern look and waited
for him to leave the kitchen before she left to make sure he
wouldn’t spoil his appetite.

A growl, though playful, reverberated within her throat at her
mother's exiting remark. It still irked her that her mother
thought the same of Brad's rear-end. That was her man's rear
end, and her mother looking at him in that manner was a bit
disconcerting. "Hopefully," she said to herself out loud, "now
that dad will be around, she won't comment on Brad's appearance,
dreamy or not." She blushed at the thought of his dreamy looks,
losing herself for a moment or two. Keaira would never get over
the fact that such a handsome, well-mannered young man had
fallen in love with her. Of course her mother, father, and
friends insisted that she was drop-dead gorgeous; but she
certainly did not believe that she was.
A glance at the clock on the dresser pushed Keaira into motion.
She had talked to Brad for about twenty minutes, and had spent
another twenty lying by the pool. If her calculations were
right, she only had an hour or so before he would arrive. She
would need to shower, shave her legs, and get dressed before he
got there. The stirring in her stomach alerted her that Kaydence
and Kendall were also excited about Brad's pending arrival. This
would truly be a lovely night, as long as her dad didn't go all
police interrogator on him. "Alright, girls, lets get ready for
daddy," she whispered with a sigh and a smile.
While she rummaged through her bag, she could hear her parents
out in the kitchen. They were still being all kissy and what
not, but talking of dinner plans. "Wow, mom wants to have a
dinner! That's why I love her." She squealed and pulled the only
dress she had brought with her, despite explaining to her father
to start gathering a wardrobe for her to wear when she went to
school. That discussion would have to wait for later, though.
Now, she had other priorities, starting with a shower; a very
long, very hot shower where she could think about all of Brad's
assets and his lips moving over her entire body. "Mmm." She
mumbled, stepping into the bathroom attached to her room.
In the shower, Keaira's thoughts ran rampant, but revolved
around the last night she had been with Brad. It was the
sweetest, most romantic night she had ever had. Brad had bought
her flowers, one for everyday that had passed since they had
met, and cooked her an exotic dish. Her mind fast-forwarded to
later that evening. She only just started to show signs of
pregnancy. His lips had traveled over every inch of her body,
well nearly, and his fingers traced the line created by his
lips. Her body shivered with ecstasy. They spent hours that way,
making a love unlike any other, and whispering sweet nothing to
one another afterwards. Brad had more than likely proposed to
her, but she couldn't remember for certain. "God, I hope he
didn't." she whispered to herself as she stepped out of the
shower, just in time to hear a knock on the front door.

After she had shooed Devlin away to his room to get ready with
an apple in hand, Kennedy turned back to the kitchen, clicking
her tongue against the top of her mouth as she decided what she
would do for dinner. It was either whip up something quick or
order out. The only deal break was the stock of food Devlin had
laying around.
With a look of pure concentration, Kennedy moved swiftly to the
cupboards and looked through them until she finally found one
with food. Or with what she thought was food, as it was nearly
empty. She moved on to another and much like the last it was
almost empty. Next she moved to the refrigerator, peering inside
with a small gasp. Nearly all the shelves were crowded with old
take out boxes, along with some other necessities like milk and
eggs – both of which looked out of date. It was like he didn’t
even live in this house. Kennedy let out a loud sigh, letting
the refrigerator door swing shut. She wanted to cook the dinner,
even if it meant making a box of macaroni and cheese, at least
that way she would have something to do for the next hour.
“Devlin!” She called out, marching her way right up the stairs
and into his bedroom, walking in on his just pulling up his
boxers. Her eyes wandered over him greedily, trailing from his
still rippled chest down to the deep v and back up again to see
the smirk on his face as he rubbed the water from his hair with
a white towel. Immediately her face heated up with a dark blush,
and that caused him to chuckle, tossing the towel in a laundry
basket as he slinked his way into the closet to pick out his
clothes.
Kennedy forced herself to swallow, eyes never straying away from
him, watching the muscles in his back ripple as he walked. “I,
um.. You have no food in your fridge?” She found it hard to
think of a coherent response, her train of thought definitely
being distracted by Devlin as he emerged from the closet with a
pair of blue jeans and a white polo, smiling. He explained to
her that when he had business over they either ordered take out
or went out to a restaurant. It was understandable, but what did
he do when he was alone? With furrowed brows she tilted her head
to the side, hand on her hip as she popped it out.
“And what exactly do you eat when you have no business over?”
”I usually don’t get off of work until late, so I’ll grab
something to eat at the office.”
This caused Kennedy to furrow her brows even more, chewing on
her bottom lip. She remembered how he liked her cooking when
they were together, so why not hire someone to cook for him? He
definitely had enough money to do so. But she shrugged it off,
rolling her eyes at him playfully.
“Of course. But what are we going to eat when Brad comes over?”
She challenged, smirking.
Devlin only shrugged, slipping his jeans on and tugging the
shirt over his head. ”I thought we were going out…” That
innocent look on his face melted Kennedy’s heart, and she rolled
her eyes again.
“I guess I’ll have to change then.” Her eyes darted down
herself, taking in the cutoff shorts and the white tank top. It
wasn’t exactly restaurant appropriate. With a cutely wrinkled
nose Kennedy meandered back over to her duffle bag, withdrawing
her own set of old blue jeans and a cardigan to put over the
tank top. Devlin stood there with an expecting look as if
waiting for her to change. Kennedy shot him a glare and shooed
him out of the room, telling him he needed to tell Keaira to
dress to go out as she shut the door in his face.

With a towel wrapped around her still wet body, Keaira left her
bathroom and bedroom to answer the door. Her father, however,
had beaten her to the door. She watched, with her bottom lip
tucked between her teeth, as he greeted Brad in a very
intimidating manner. The thought of him trying to scare Brad
away terrified her, pushing her into action. "Dad, thank you for
greeting Brad. I will take it from here." She gave him an
innocent smile and began to lead Brad toward her bedroom. They
were two feet from the door when her father's booming voice
stopped them.
"Young lady, I will not be having him entering your room in your
current state of attire, or lack their of. He can sit out here
with me while you and your mother finish getting ready. Be sure
to put something nice on, because we are going out for dinner."
A disgruntled sigh left her lips, but she knew Brad would
comply. He kissed her softly and nudged her toward her door.
Keaira began to pout, but Brad only chuckled and shook his head.
"I don't want to give your father a reason to dislike me,
Keaira. We will have plenty of time together," he said with his
delectable English accent, "so go on and get dressed. I will be
waiting out here." He kissed her again, then turned to join her
father by the bar.
If she was terrified before, Keaira was certainly frightened
now. Who knew what her father would say or do to Brad while she
got dressed. He would probably threaten him, emphasizing some
horrendous pain if Brad hurt her. The entire game was asinine,
and would only serve to infuriate her if Brad acted any
different afterwards. She used her fear, though, to dress much
more quickly than she normally would.
Thankfully, she had packed a dress for such an occasion. Her
father had bought it for her some months ago, and the fabric
gave enough to accommodate her growing belly, at least for the
time being. Normally, she would have pulled the dress on from
her hips; but to fit it over her belly, she had to pull it down
over her head. The dress would assuredly make her blue eyes
'pop', according to her father, and when she looked into the
mirror, she had to agree.
The final touches of make-up did not take long, considering Brad
preferred her 'natural beauty', which is why she worse less and
less each time she saw him. As she finished, she stepped out of
her room and gasped. Her surprised gaze fell on a spectacle she
had not anticipated seeing. Her father and Brad sat by the bar,
drinking dar liquor and laughing as if they had been life long
friends. She continued to watch, with mild confusion, unable to
open her mouth and potentially ruin their moment of bonding.
"Keaira, my love," Brad started, "your father was just sharing
with me that he and my father went to Cambridge together. That
is quite intriguing, if I do say so myself."

Kennedy quickly took off her shorts and slipped the pants on.
The pants were definitely her favorite pair. During the days
years ago when she actually had time to dress down for comfort,
she wore them the most. Because of that the blue of the jeans
was faded, and the fabric grew soft with the use, but they still
fit snuggly. The cardigan was just something she put in there
because she liked it, but never really saw herself wearing it.
It was gray and thick cable knit. And after she slipped it on
she immediately felt the warmth it brought. It was perfect; the
seasons were changing, and fall was just beyond the horizon so
the air was a bit chilly.
Once she had on her new outfit Kennedy dashed quickly into the
bathroom with her bag in hand. She had a little more time before
Brad showed up, so she ran a brush through her hair to relieve
it of its tangles but decided that was all she would do with it
as she didn’t have that much time. Thinking of her makeup,
Kennedy decided to keep it simple and just brushed on a coat of
mascara to make her eyes ‘pop’. It was a bit weird. Usually she
would have a full face of makeup when she went to work or went
out, but with Devlin around she didn’t feel the need to wear it
all. He had never really complained about her tendencies when
they were together before, but she got this feeling that this
was what he would want from her. With a quick application of
chapstick onto her lips, Kennedy slipped on a pair of sandals
and made her way downstairs only to see Devlin, Brad, and Keaira
all together at the bar.
Her brows rose skeptically, but she shrugged off the feeling and
took the necessary steps needed to be by Devlin’s side, smiling
as he wrapped an arm loosely around her waist. “Great to see you
again, Brad.” She said, leaning over to gently squeeze his
shoulder. He was significantly younger than her and despite his
relationship with Keaira still being tender and young, Kennedy
already thought of his as a son. He was a great man and she knew
he would do Keaira some good. “So, how about we get going?”

The way Brad wraps his arms around her felt amazing, despite the
glower on her father's face. Keaira fit perfectly into his arms,
and her head found his shoulder. To her, it had felt like years
since she had been able to hug and kiss him, even though it had
only been a couple of months. She did know, though, that she
would never let him go again. "I love you Brad," she whispered
up to him, pressing her lips gently against his throat. Home,
that was how she felt around him, completely at home.
When her father cleared his throat, she nearly jumped out of her
skin. She had nearly forgotten that he was there next to them,
that was the affect that Brad had upon her. With a sheepish
smile, and her hand over her heart, she pulled her gaze from
Brad and looked at her father. He had this knowing glance in his
eyes, as though he knew how she felt. Keaira was certain she
did, because she could see that both of her parents felt the
same way with one another. If she had not felt it for herself,
she would have believed the feeling was surreal.
Keaira watched her mother approach the bar, dressed in jeans and
a sweater, and her father and Brad were dressed similarly. "I
feel I have over dressed, should I go and change?" She was
feeling self-conscious about wearing a dress when they were so
casually dressed. Brad shook his head in reply, a gentle smile
upon his lips. He would love her regardless of what she wore,
that much she could see in his eyes. "Alright," she replied and
turned back to her mother. "I did some research before we got
here, and I found this nice Italian restaurant not far from
here. Does that sound alright to everyone?"

Kennedy smirked as she saw Keaira and Brad wrapped around each
other’s arms already. By the looks of it, both couples would be
occupied tonight. With that thought Kennedy’s eyes darted to the
man to her left, taking in the beauty of his face as he gave
Keaira a knowing look. It made her happy. Everything was the way
it should be. The only thing missing was Kyler, but he did have
a life outside of the family, so she understood why he wasn’t
always around. But it did make her curious, and she decided she
would definitely phone him later tonight to check up on him –
perhaps he had a special woman in his life by now too?
Keaira questioned her attire, and Kennedy watched with twinkling
eyes as Brad shook his head adoringly at her. A questioning brow
was raised, but she shook her head. Not only were they
personalities made for each other, but they even looked like
they belonged together. A love like the one Brad and Keaira had
was rare, and she hoped it didn’t go to waste, that nothing
would come in and mess it up.
Kennedy shook her head eagerly at the suggestion of Italian.
Italian food was definitely her favorite. She could feel
Devlin’s smirking eyes on her as she shook her head, he
remembered just how much she liked Italian and it caused him to
chuckle softly as he placed a kiss to her cheek. “I don’t know
about you three, but I’m starving. Let’s go!” With a playful
giggle she pulled Devlin up to his feet and dragged him behind
her as she strutted her way to the door. Her eyes traveled to
the cars in the car park, and settled on walking to Devlin’s,
not only because it had enough seats to fit them all, but also
because he was heading towards it with the keys jingling in his
hands. She turned around and looked to Brad and Keaira, a smile
on her face. “Are you two going to ride with us, or drive over
there yourselves?”

Brad glanced at Keaira, a thought passing between them. She
smiled and answered for the both of them, "I believe we will
take Brad's car. We wouldn't want it to get awkward if we
started kissing with you and dad in the car." The wink she gave
to Brad held more than just an affectionate gesture. No, it was
an innuendo for other things that would certainly occur, just
not with her parents present. With that said, Brad escorted her
to his car, following behind Keaira's parents. Tonight would
definitely be a splendid evening.
Once the reached the car, she seized his handsome face between
her delicate hands. Her eyes stared deeply into his for a moment
before she placed a long, loving kiss upon his delicious lips.
Keaira had lost herself in those lips more times than she cared
to count, and she prayed that she would for the rest of her
life. The kiss lasted for as long as she could make it, without
starting more devious actions. Her smile was stunning, more so
now that her love was here. She doubted that anything could
touch her happiness when he was around.
Acquerello was not very far from her father's house, so the
drive did not take long. Throughout the drive, Brad and Keaira
conversed about future plans, more importantly the wedding. Brad
had suggested a wedding in London, perhaps at Buckingham Palace,
but Keaira had doubts that such a wedding could ever happen. She
didn't doubt Brad, but why would the royal family allow
commoners to marry inside the palace. Keaira fell silent when
they pulled up to the restaurant, her eyes falling on the last
person she wanted to see, Ryan. Ryan knew that she loved Italian
food, like her mother, but how would he know they were going out
and where they were going? "Oh my god," she breathed, staring at
her ex with terror.

Kennedy had no clue where they were headed too, but apparently
Devlin did as he immediately pulled out of the drive and made
his way to wherever it is they were going to have dinner. It
must have been planned – and that she didn’t doubt. It was all
probably Keaira’s doing, as she seemed the mastermind behind
this whole trip.
They drove slowly, in no hurry to make it there, and so they
relished in each other’s company. Only minutes into the drive
Devlin reached across and took Kennedy’s hand in his, tracing
soothing circles along the back of her hand absentmindedly. She
couldn’t help but to feel this is the way things should be – as
if she was meant to be with Devlin. Or perhaps it was the rush
of those strong feelings back to her? She’d spent years
neglecting how she actually felt about it, and now it was
surging through her like the Mississippi, and she couldn’t
ignore that. Her free hand joined the other, absentmindedly
playing with Devlin’s own strong hand that rested in her lap.
They would do nothing more. There was no use rushing into
anything when they both knew they would have the rest of their
lives to do anything they wanted.
They were just pulling up the restaurant, Acquerello the sign
said in elegant cursive letters. A man stood outside, sticking
out like a sore thumb. Devlin didn’t seem to notice, probably
focusing about finding a parking spot, but Kennedy’s eyes stared
in horror. Her throat went dry and her hands curled tighter
around Devlin’s, which earned her a curious look from the
handsome man. She tried to smile, to reassure him that it was
nothing, figuring it wouldn’t do any good if she was worrying
before she even saw Keaira’s response to it. Her daughter could
have invited him during her phone calls, but it seemed highly
unlikely. Her only hope was that Ryan hadn’t seen them and they
could leave quietly, that it was a coincidence that he was here.

Keaira couldn't move, she could barely breath while she stared
at her ex-boyfriend, Ryan. She hadn't expected to ever see him
again; and his sudden appearance made her believe he was far
more unstable that she originally thought. Her heart began to
beat heavily against her breast, churning fear throughout her
veins. A thousand and one ideas ran through her mind, each one
circulating around why he was here and what he might do. She
didn't think he was crazy enough to do anything outrageous, but
then he did rape her on the last night he was in town.
Brad was trying to speak to her, but Keaira did not hear him.
The concern was evident upon his face when she opened the door
slowly, using it to brace herself when her legs threatened to
give from the unbearable fear. She opened her mouth to speak,
but the words would not leave her tongue. This boy before her
had her stricken, and she could not shake it. Slowly, she closed
the door and began to walk forward. Brad left the vehicle and
took her hand, and Keaira squeezed his extremely tightly. He
didn't complain, merely whispered sweet and calming thoughts
into her ear. After what felt like an hour, even though it was a
few moments, she found her voice and asked the only question
that needed to be asked. "Ryan, what are you doing here?" Brad
stilled and went rigid at the mention of Ryan's name, remember
what she had told him prior to his arrival to her dad's house.
"Hey babe. I came to check up on you, see if you had done what
we had discussed. It appears that you haven't. Who is this
prick?" Ryan's voice dripped with anger and hatred; for whom
though, Keaira did not know.
The sound of her dad's vehicle idling behind them snapped Keaira
out of the fear she felt. "Do not call me babe. You lost that
privilege months ago. And it is no concern of yours who this is.
You are no longer a part of my life. Please go away and never
speak to me again." Keaira was surprised how harsh and resolute
her own voice had sounded, considering she hardly felt she had a
mean bone within her body. Brad began to creep forward towards
Ryan, but she restrained him with a squeeze of the hand. This
was her issue to resolve, not his or her parents'.
"Alright babe. But I will be checking up on you. If you have
that baby and try to come after me in court, I will come after
you, you get me?" Ryan's grin was crazed, reigniting the fear
Keaira had just felt.
Finally, Ryan began to walk away; but when he did, he slammed
his shoulder into Brad's. Brad cursed under his breath in a
language Keaira did not speak, but it sounded vaguely like
French. Keaira smile faintly at him and turned to watch Ryan
disappear into the crowd upon the sidewalk, and hopefully out of
her life permanently. She had her doubts, though. If he would
randomly show up at a restaurant to confront her, there was no
certainty on what else he might do. Her gaze, once Ryan was lost
to it, turn to her parents' vehicle, and she waved them on.
"Let's go get a seat, baby," she whispered to Brad, hoping this
minor incident would not hamper what had started to become a
lovely evening.
