       Anyone Can Jump In
By: Ricci Date: June 12, 2013, 3:05 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
It was night time in the land, and not a single peep could be
heard across the moors. A light fog drifted across the damp
earth and in the distance, a faint light could be seen from the
nearby village. All was still. The stars above twinkled brightly
in the blanket of pitch black sky, joined by the two moons that
shone as a pair, separated by thousands of miles yet seeming to
be only inches apart. It was often said that if the two moons
ever crossed paths, the spirits of each would fall in love with
the others beauty and would fly away to spend their eternity
together, leaving both moons dull and lifeless. Such a story was
told to the children of this world, along with other myths and
fairy tales, but it was one of the few that many children never
grew out of. Grown men and women even mentioned from time to
time, if ever the moons grew close, that they feared for the
world, should the spirits leave. Surely the moons would die
without their spirits and without the moons, all life would be
affected. And so, it was on this foggy night, with the moons so
close, that the villagers began to gather their things. Whenever
the moons were as close as tonight, they would pray, in the
hopes that it would distract the spirits from each other.
As the night drew on, the light from the village grew brighter
as more fires and lamps were lit. It wasn't until a shrill voice
called across the moors, that a certain teenage boy even
       noticed.
"JAKOBI!" the voice cried, catching the attention of a green
eyed, scruffy, brown haired boy. He had been laying in the long
grass of the moor, staring up a the stars. His eyes had been
fixed upon the moons, daring them to move ever closer as they
crept their ways across the sky. It didn't seem that they would
touch this year, but every year they got closer as they crossed
paths. He was not one of the few who believed in the spirits,
but many others did, so he had little choice but to follow their
practice. He had only moved here several years ago, but he
already felt like a part of the family he had stayed with. After
only stopping for a night for food and water, they had taken him
in as one of their own and persuaded him to stop his constant
wandering. At least for a little while, anyway. He planned on
leaving again soon, but never felt like there was a way to tell
the kind family who had cared for him. Just like he could not
find a way to tell the whole village of what lurked on the moors
       nearby.
Several of the villagers disliked Jakobi. Some for various
reasons, but all had one reason in common. When he had arrived,
a curse had descended upon the village. Or at least, what they
believed was a curse. Cows had disappeared upon a regular basis,
one each week, as well as a sheep from each flock. Sometimes a
farmer would find bones of his animals along the path to the
moors, sometimes they would find whole body parts. In such a
superstitious village, it hadn't taken Jak long to convince them
there was a monster in the moors, and the only way to keep its
temper down was to allow it one cow and one sheep each week, and
to never go looking for it. Little did they know, this creature
was Jak's companion. A large creature of scales with great wings
that stretched so far, they could block out the sun. Sharp teeth
filled it's mouth and even sharper claws protruded from its
toes, as well as long horns that curved out of it's skull. It's
whip-like tail was wicked fast and could sever a person in two
with a simple flick, but this was only the least of a person's
problem if they were to face this beast. From it's mouth it
could shoot jets of dazzling white flame, so hot it could turn a
person to ash in mere seconds and melt even the most solid of
metals. The villagers feared this beast, though none knew what
it looked like, what it was capable, or even that it was a
dragon from their myths and stories.
Jak visited his companion once a night, when they would often
take to the skies and share stories of their day. He promised
they would leave soon, but the dragon was content where he was,
and often tried to convince Jakobi that there was no rush. Even
so, Jak hated to stay in the same place for too long. So it was
on this night, as the voice shouted his name across the moors,
that he decided he would leave within the next few days.
The villagers were used to him visiting the moors, they had been
weary at first, convinced that he was some sort of creature that
could transform into the beast they feared and was the one who
was stealing their animals, but he had managed to prove
otherwise over time. Once he gained their trust, he told them of
how he could talk to the creature, which was how he had come to
an agreement with it, two animals a week for the villagers
       safety.
As Jak stood up, he reached over to lay a hand on the warm
scales of his companion beside him, his lips curving into a
faint smile. "Until tomorrow, Ryuu." He muttered softly before
the dragon lowered it's head and pressed it's forehead against
Jak's. "Until tomorrow, Jakobi." With another smile, Jak nodded
and then made his way towards the voice from the village. The
ceremony was due to begin, and it would be rude of him not to
       attend.

As Jakobi made his way across the moors, he heard the faint
sound of wing beats as Ryuu took off in the distance. He had
made himself home in a cave not far from here, where it was warm
and dry with soft earth to sleep upon, so Jakobi always knew he
was comfortable. The fog thinned as he neared the village,
flames decorating each house outside. To any passers by, they
       might think the village were on fire, but this was not the case;
each villager had put torches all over their houses as part of
the tradition. They believed that the brighter their village
was, the more distraction they would cause for the spirits and
so they would look down at the earth instead of at each other.
Jakobi often considered telling them about Ryuu simply so he
could help with this, his firey breath would cause enough
distraction to last all night. As he thought of this, Jak smiled
under his breath and hardly noticed as he almost walked straight
into a familiar face. "Jak!" A girlish voice squeaked as he
stumbled to a halt. Before him stood the daughter of the family
he was staying with, Sophie. She was his age and had often
showed signs of having feelings for him, but he had never shown
interest in her. She wasn't his... type. He gave a faint smile
and nodded his head in greeting. "Can you help me? Pretty
please?" Sophie tried her biggest puppy dog eyes and pout, but
Jak simply shook his head. "Sorry, I have to help in the main
       hall."
Leaving Sophie to stare at him from afar as he walked away, Jak
made his way through the burning village to a large church-like
building at the far end. Walking through the houses, one would
think they had slipped back into the past, with hut-like houses
and dirt paths for roads. But in truth, if they were to travel a
several hundred miles North, they would find a busy city with
more modern technology. Most places in this land used steam
power rather than electricity though, so it was rare to find a
city with such technology. Once he reached the hall, Jakobi
looked around for the woman who had been calling him and was
quickly handed a pile of torches with the instructions to circle
them around the village. Without a word, he left as silently as
he had entered and made his way to the outskirts of the village,
where he began to place the torches in the ground, and light
       each one.

Beloved had stayed at an inn the night before and rested up
some, he had been wondering about trying to find himself. Most
men go through those phases but Beloved has went through it
twice. Being an ancient vampire it is more or less expected. He
still had his special ring that allows him to walk about during
the day. He went through a bit of a make over, his hair dyed
brown and instead of his old tight clothes he has baggy pants
and a lose button up shirt. His hair has even grown past his
rump. He comes out of the inn looking about the village he had
chosen to spend his night in. He sees many torches about and is
a bit puzzled. As he is walking though he takes notice of a man
carrying torches and stops."It looks like him..."He sniffs the
air."It even smell like him." He covers his mouth walking up
behind him."Hi there stranger, you need a hand." He looked
behind glancing at the church woman wondering what the
connection was between the two but brushes it off."You look and
smell like my Jakobi, I do hope my eyes and nose aren't
deceiving me." His hair was back in a pony tail with one lock of
hair hanging loose by his face accenting his jawline structure.

Jakobi lit the first torch using the matches from his pocket and
moved along a little, holding the rest of the torches under one
arm while he stuck another in the ground. He was about to take
the matches from his pocket again, when he heard a voice ask if
he wanted help. "No, it's okay. I got it." He kept his eyes down
on his work; having removed himself from most social activities
he had become rather withdrawn and awkwardly shy. However, when
he heard his name, he frowned slightly and turned his gaze
towards the stranger nearby. Except... it wasn't a stranger.
With a loud clatter, Jakobi dropped the torches from his arms
and stared, wide-eyed at the man before him. Was it...? No, it
couldn't be. He was so different... His long, dark hair and
baggy clothes, surely it was just someone that looked like...
And yet... Those eyes, that jawline, that voice...
"B...Beloved?" His voice cracked a little as he spoke, what was
he doing here?! Suddenly Jakobi became very aware of how much of
a mess he must have looked, after spending several hours laying
in the moors. His hair was tustled, longer than it had once been
so it fell past his vivid green eyes and trailed down his neck
to his shoulders. He'd lost weight and so combining this new
thin figure with his rather short height, he looked smaller than
ever. His clothes didn't help make him look any bigger either,
as he wore baggy shorts and a shirt that was much too large for
him. Quickly running his hand over his hair, he tried to flatten
it to look more presentable but it was no use, these days it
seemed to always stick up at odd angles. Clearing his throat,
Jakobi tried to form a solid sentence. "What are you... why are
you... how did you..." He paused and blinked, staring up at the
face he had not seen for too long of a time. "Where have you
       been...?"

He noticed he didn't pay him much attention, it would seem he
was use to people trying to help him or get his attention.
However he knew it wouldn't take long before he would turn
around and take notice of him."Yes it is and it can be me, you
are so adorable when you are baffled." He covers his mouth and
stifles a chuckle so as not to embarrass him. he watches you try
to straighten yourself out and look presentable. Looking him
over he noticed his slender curved yet slim frame."You have lost
a good bit of weight, are you eating enough?" Though the hear
stopping question was asked and he bites his own lip and looks
away."I had a lot of troubles things went wrong and I freaked
out and took a journey. I changed my looks I wondered about for
a long time and still am kind of. I didn't expect to run into
you in a small village like this but I am glad I did, other than
no meat on your bones you are looking as good as ever. Anyway
since i seen you I thought I would walk over and say hi. How
have you been? You don't look very happy right now." He brushed
his lock of hair behind his ear and expected to hear the worst,
a good tongue lashing or something. He had no idea how shy and
       untrusting Jakobi had gotten.

He found a light blush crossed his cheeks as Beloved called him
adorable, quickly avoiding his gaze and lowering his head to
hide beneath his hair. Hearing the question about his weight,
Jak adjusted his shirt and fumbled with it awkwardly, chewing
his lip. "I eat enough." Truth be told, he ate very little. The
village had a strong belief in eating together, so Jak usually
ate enough to satisfy his hunger and then left so as not to be
caught in social situations. When Beloved began to explain, Jak
peered up at him through his fringe, still unable to believe he
was stood before him right at that moment. "You're still
wandering? Does that mean you're going to leave again...?" His
eyes widened as that realization struck him, worry filling his
expression. He'd only just found Beloved again, would he lose
him once more so soon? "I've been okay. I stick to myself these
days though... Well, me and Ryuu, but the villagers here don't
know about him, so I don't get to see him very often." He paused
for a moment, moving a little closer and slowly reaching out his
hand so that his fingers lightly pressed against Beloved's
chest. He wanted to know this was real, that he was really here
and he wasn't just hallucinating. His eyes watched the fabric
fold beneath his finger tips and he breathed a soft sigh of
relief. He really was here... "I am happy, just... shocked. I
       can't believe it's really you..."
