       Awakening of Abigail Hell
       By: xblazer755 Date: April 29, 2013, 4:40 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Balthier could only wonder what exactly it meant to have dreams
of another. He could not interpret what they meant nor why he
continued to have all of these dreams. It started nearly a month
ago. He was just doing what he did best: Wander around aimlessly
through the realms with his companion wolf, Taven. He never had
a worry about much. With his pet wolf at his side, he could go
just about anywhere and never feel lonely. One particular night,
he decided to rest near a river bank. Both he and Taven took a
drink from the river before resting underneath a nearby tree.
Taven rested his head upon Balthier's lap as Balthier relaxed
against the large tree. Taking a deep breath, he relaxed and
shut his eyes, slowly falling into a deep sleep.
During his dream, he found himself in the middle of a forest
with nothing but darkness surrounding him. Being that he was
part wolf, he had no trouble seeing in the dark. His vision
often went unhindered in nearly any light or in the absence of
it. In his dream, he heard the familiar voice of someone he
hadn't seen in quite some time. He looked around and saw
nothing, but the voice continued to echo around him. Finally, he
was able to discern from which direction the voice came from
and went dashing straight towards it, avoiding the trees and
branches that were in his way until finally he was out of the
       forest.
Stepping into the light, he would awaken from his dream right
where he fell asleep. Confused about what the dream meant and
not bothering with the details, he decided to move on. For a
month, he has continued to have such dreams and has been unable
to decipher their meaning. His most recent dream, the light
turned into a clearing where he would find Abigail who was
indeed calling for him. Walking up to her, she slowly faded
away, leaving the words, "You must awaken me, Balthier. Come
and find me. I need you." Suddenly awakening from his dream, he
realized that for the last month, Abigail Hell had been calling
       for him.
His next dream would be more like a vision for him as it
revealed Abigail Hell laying in a bed completely still. He would
exit that room and find himself outside of a manor. From there,
the vision showed the path that would lead him to the manor
straight from where he was now. Gasping as he awakened from his
dream, eyes widening as he were in shock, he took a minute to
collect himself. Taven yawned and stretched as he woke up,
standing up and moving to stretch his legs a bit more. Balthier
stood up and stretched as well, lost in thought a moment.
Perhaps it is time to embark on a new journey, he thought to
himself. "I must find and awaken Abigail Hell."

The same dreams that had plagued him for the last month had
again re-occurred this evening as he rested. In this dream, he
was able to actually embrace Abigail in his arms. Her soft skin
felt so real against his own as he stared into the eyes of the
girl who had called to him. Inching closer to her, before his
lips could meet hers, Balthier woke up from his dream, his eyes
shooting open as he looked around a moment. A soft sigh escaped
his lips as he shook his head in disappointment. He had been
traveling for a few days now but felt that he was no closer to
his destination than when he started. The dreams seem to be
coming with more frequency and much more clearly than before.
That must mean I am getting closer, he thought.
"Wake up, Taven. It's time to get moving." He smiled softly as
he gently stroked the head of his pet wolf who rested upon his
lap. Taven was much larger than a normal wolf and intimidated
others easily. He never understood this since he was never
really threatening to anyone. Taven was more of a lazy wolf. He
loved to sleep, but also loved to hunt when he could. Taven
yawned as he woke up slowly, stretching his legs and standing
up, looking up to his master. "Find us some food, my friend.
I'll wait for you here." Taven nodded and disappeared into the
forest behind Balthier to search for food to feed himself and
his master. Balthier stood up and stretched his back and arms.
"I think a little practice would do for now... At least, until
Taven gets back." Balthier took a deep breath, pressing his
hands together as he meditated a while. Exhaling slowly, he
relaxed his muscles and drew his twin swords, Morte Gladius and
Flamberge. Each weapon had it's own unique appearance but were
equally deadly. Balthier began to practice his form, the one he
perfected after learning the basics from his master. The flames
of his Flamberge danced in the air as Balthier swung the weapon
to and fro. It had been quite some time since the last he had
entered battle. He smiled as he continued to dance with his
weapons, alternating between horizontal, vertical and diagonal
slashes with the occasional thrust in between.
"Heh... It has been a while, my friends... I know you long for
battle, but please do not become impatient. Enjoy the night for
       now."

       ---------------------------------------------------------
He continued with his swordplay a while longer, smiling as his
blades danced in the air, his body flowing gracefully along with
the small breeze that blew by. Balthier could not remember the
last time he was in battle. His body was still accustomed to the
swordplay he'd learned. The special blades he wielded were quite
heavy in a normal being's hands. Balthier could wield them as if
they were as light as the air he breathed. He continued to slash
and thrust with precision as he brought his dance to a close.
Once finished, he re-sheathed his treasured weapons back in
their respective sheaths, the red one on his right hip contained
Flamberge. The black one on his left hip contained Morte
       Gladius.
Balthier took a deep breath and sat down near the river bank.
Folding his legs and resting his hands on his knees, he closed
his eyes and began to focus his energy. His body channeled the
dark energy that was granted to him by his ancestors as well as
the mystical energies of the Dark Angels. Slowly falling into a
meditative state, helped by the calming breeze and the flowing
sound of the river, Balthier's body began to produce a dark, but
calming aura. The energies began to flow around him, having a
similar appearance of black flame that burned softly in the air
around his body. He began to focus his thoughts on what his
objective was, beginning to think about the best course of
action to take in order to find Abigail.
As his body channeled the dark energies inside of him, the
tribal marks that outlined around his biceps and chest
illuminated in a white hue. His eyes closed still, he cleared
his mind and took another deep breath, exhaling slowly as his
body rested and rejuvenated itself. Once the aura had dispersed,
he opened his eyes slowly and smiled, looking down at the river.
His right hand moved over the edge of the sheath that held his
flame sword. A little of the flame that burned the blade seeped
out into his hand, holding his hand in front of him as the flame
took a spherical shape, dancing in the palm of his hand. Taven
soon returned with the meat of a deer that he had hunted in the
forest, setting it down beside his master. Balthier smiled as he
watched the flame continue to dance in the palm of his hand.
"Well done, Taven. A good catch. This will do nicely."

Taven smiled as his master complemented his work, closing his
eyes as Balthier gently petted him. "Now to start the fire..."
Balthier smiled as the flame continued to burn upon the palm of
his hand, slowly beginning to roam around his body almost as if
it were a protective barrier. Balthier stood up and walked
towards the nearest dead tree and began to cut some of the
branches with his Morte Gladius. Once he had cut enough, he
carried all the wood back to his little camping spot near the
river, setting up a ring of stones and then setting the dry wood
on fire with the flame that was dancing around him still.
Placing the meat on a thin stake, he began to cook the meat
rotisserie style, the juices from the meat dripping into the
flame, feeding it as the meat began to sear over the flame.
Taven watched as the meat cooked over the flame, anxious to eat
it. "Patience, my pet... It is almost done. Keep an eye on it
until I return." Taven nodded, Balthier walking into the forest
for the time being. He had felt a presence nearby that he
couldn't confirm. The presence he felt did not seem threatening
in anyway but he wanted to be sure he was not being followed.
Shrugging it off for the time being, he walked back out towards
the open fire, the meat perfectly cooked by the time he had
returned. He smiled and took the meat off the steak, tossing a
piece over to Taven. "Careful, my friend. It's hot."
Balthier laughed as Taven struggled to eat without burning
himself. After their meal, Balthier absorbed the flame back into
his weapon and stretched out to begin his journey anew. "Come,
Taven. It is time to go." Taven nodded and walked beside his
master as they made their way following the river for a while
longer. The visions that Balthier continued to have were
constantly replaying in his head, making it impossible to focus
on anything else for the time being. He felt that following this
river would lead him to Abigail eventually and so he pressed on,
       never forgetting his objective.

As Balthier and Taven progressed, Balthier could not shake the
feeling that he was being followed for some reason. Continuing
to follow the river for a few minutes longer, he began to sense
a presence nearby again. Not knowing what it was, he stopped a
moment to reflect. Taven began to sniff the air, as if an
unfamiliar scent had become apparent. He looked up at Balthier
who nodded down to him. Taven then ran back into the forest for
a moment, Balthier following for a moment but then taking
another direction as they began to comb the area for a little
while to try and find who he was sensing.
After they separated, Balthier began to hear footsteps nearby in
the forest, the fallen leaves cracking as the weight of the
owner's steps crushed them beneath its foot. Following the
sound, he closed his eyes, waiting to see what the strangers
next move was. For a brief moment, there was silence. The ever
so feint whistle of kunai was soon heard, Balthier immediately
dodging two of them and catching the third one. By the looks of
the blade, they were not poisonous in anyway, but still not
something he wanted to get hit by. Looking towards their origin,
he could see nothing but still felt the presence in that
direction. "Your cowardly tactics will not work on me, assassin!
       Show yourself!"
Hearing branches shake a little, Balthier could tell that the
assassin was on the move. Dropping the kunai that was thrown at
him, he began to play this game of cat and mouse with the
unknown assailant. Running through the forest to follow the
sound of the steps on the branches, Balthier soon found the man
who had been tracking him. The assassin, dressed in all-black
ninja clothing began to throw shurikens at Balthier, who drew
his sword to block each one, still getting his left arm slightly
scraped by one. Before long, Taven had come from the opposite
direction and tackled the ninja back down into the ground, the
jaws of his mouth biting into one arm as he pinned the assailant
down with his weight. Seeing this, Balthier hurried to his
companion, sheathing his sword as he caught up to them.

The assailant struggled, groaning in pain as Taven's teeth dug
into his left arm. Balthier approached them, nodding at Taven
who backed off from the man, allowing him to sit up. "Who sent
you, assassin..?" Balthier asked the man. He stayed silent,
looking away from Balthier. Taven became somewhat impatient with
the man and began to growl at him. The assailant jumped lightly,
slowly moving away from Taven. "Make it easier on yourself,
assassin.. I promise you that you'll feel less pain if you
cooperate..." Balthier placed his left hand upon the handle of
his blade, making a somewhat threatening gesture to the man.
The man then looked back up at Balthier and answered. "I don't
know who it was... All he said was to find a half-wolf who had a
wolf for a pet. He told me exactly what you looked like and said
he'd pay a lot of money if you were dead." Balthier began to
think for a moment. He never really made enemies out of anyone
but for some reason, he thought that there could be someone who
was holding a grudge against him. "Don't ask, don't tell,
right?" Balthier shook his head. "So, you came to look for me to
try and earn a bit of coin... I don't take lightly to those who
threaten me in such a fashion, assassin... But, whoever sent you
obviously thought you had the strength to defeat me, in which
case, they have underestimated me completely..." Balthier drew
the Morte Gladius and aimed it at the man. "You will leave this
place, or face death by my blade."
The assassin stood up slowly, backing away from Balthier and
Taven. "You will pay for this.. I swear it!" Vowing revenge, the
assassin fled through the forest. Balthier sighed as he sheathed
his blade once more, calling Taven to his side as they walked
back towards the river. "This isn't good... I can't afford to
put Abigail in peril at a time like this... I must find her
quickly before things become more hectic... I'd rather not have
to deal with more obstacles along the way.." Balthier continued
to follow the river for a while longer until it lead him to an
open plain, allowing him to see further now. The moon light
illuminated a small path through the plains into the mountains
off in the distance. "Hmm... Which way do I go now...?"

Taven walked ahead and began to sniff the air a little bit.
"What is it, Taven..? Do you sense something..? "Taven looked
around a little more, then towards the path through the mountain
pass. He turned back to his master and walked towards him,
Balthier kneeling down to him. "What did you sense..?" Taven
remained silent but Balthier could still hear his thoughts.
Balthier had an unbelievable bond with this wolf. Taven was
always loyal and never questioned his master and Balthier repaid
his loyalty with food, a home, and a lifelong companion for him.
Balthier nodded and stood up again. "Very well. Let us go, my
friend. We should not be long now. Let us not keep Abigail
       waiting."
Taven walked ahead of Balthier as they made their way towards
the mountain pass. There was an old bridge that lead the way
over the river which was now over 200 meters below them at the
base of the mountain. Crossing the bridge, they found themselves
along a dirt road that lead through the mountain. "Hmm... If we
follow this path, this should bring us right to the clearing
where we'll find Hell Manor... We're almost there, Taven." Taven
barked in response. He also seemed excited about meeting this
person since he was not around the first time Balthier and
       Abigail had met.
Walking along the pass, Balthier began to feel another presence
nearby. This one did not seem as hostile as the one before but
still felt as though it could be trouble. "Taven... Do you feel
it also...?" Taven began to look around after his master spoke.
He began to sniff the air, sensing something nearby. Taven went
to scout ahead while Balthier continued to walk the path,
increasing his pace to a jog so that Taven would not stray too
far ahead of him. After a moment, Taven returned to his master
with nothing. Balthier sheathed his sword and kneeled down,
stroking Taven's fur as he spoke to him. "Yes.. It does feel
like someone is watching us, Taven... Let us proceed with
       caution for now."

Balthier continued to walk down the current path, one hand on
his sheathed blade as a precaution. Taven walked beside him for
a moment, a new scent in the air now. It was not very
threatening but it was something unfamiliar to Taven. Balthier
continued to walk as he also noticed the scent. This scent,
however, seemed just a tad bit familiar to Balthier...
"Abigail..." He thought to himself. He must be close to her home
now. There was no mistaking it. As they both traversed the
winding path down the mountain, they came to a slight opening
that revealed a mansion that stood in the middle of a dense
forest. The path they followed entered the forest and seemed to
lead them straight to the mansion without fail.
"Taven, we are here. This is Hell Manor." A smile formed upon
Balthier's face as he laid his eye upon the large manor that
stood in the middle of the forest. After a long time of
searching, he finally arrived at his destination. He would soon
be able to fulfill his mission and awaken the woman who has
called to him for so long. "Come, Taven.. Finally, we can rest
from this long journey." Taven nodded in agreement as he walked
beside his master. The road that lead down towards the base of
the mountain was fairly simple. There were very few turns and it
was almost flat as they walked, though they took notice that
they could walk this path much faster than the rest of it.
Once they reached the base of the mountain, the path disappeared
into the forest that stood before them. Balthier took a deep
breath to relax himself before suddenly feeling the presence of
another being nearby. Balthier immediately drew his Morte
Gladius from it's sheath, Taven readying his stance to strike.
"Show yourself!" Balthier yelled, hoping to draw out what was
       following them.

Desdemona smiled at how quickly she was found out by this man.
Maybe a little impressed. Slipping from the shadows, she smiles,
hands in the air to show that she meant no harm. “Hello. I am
sorry that I startled you, but, I am not threat.....Unless your
business here with my Mother is unkind...” At just the thought
of this man doing anything to her Mom made Desdemona's naturally
crystalline blue eyes darken. “I just know that my sister
Willow foretold that a man would soon arrive to the Hell Manor
in search of our Mother, Abigail Hell. And here you are.”
Stepping out into the moonlight, Desdemona was a spitting image
of Abigail. Raven colored long hair, clear blue eyes, full lips,
milky white skin, and a body that should be illegal for a girl
of her age. Dressed in an all black cloak, when she moved it
flashed bits of the red silk sleeping gown beneath. It wasn't
that she didn't trust this man, it was the fact that he knew
where the Hell manor was. That alone is something to be
suspicious about. Many knew of the manor, but, few knew where.
“Please state your business. I will decide whether or not to let
       you pass.

Balthier watched as the pale woman appeared from the shadows.
Noticing the smile upon her lips, Balthier could not help but
smile in return. Taven relaxed and sat down beside his master.
Balthier sheathed his sword once again and gently patted his
loyal companion. "So my presence here was expected... That is
quite interesting... But, I suppose that it would be expected
from one of Abigail's children." Balthier smiled and bowed to
the girl once she was in plain sight.
"No apologies are necessary, miss... To many, I am more of a
threat than what I appear to be. I assure you that my presence
here is not one of harm. My name is Balthier, and I have come at
your Mother's request." Balthier looked up at the child who
looked exactly as her mother. To one who wouldn't notice the
subtle differences, they would appear to be the same person.
"Your mother has called to me in my dreams. My most recent
visions have revealed the way to here and I have been following
them ever since. She has called and asked me to awaken her..."
