Re: Role play with Beff

Mar just shook his head and looked back at the fire. He thought
Flag may have said something silly to her. He wasn't gonna let
it bother him. Mar looked into the fire and started to think
about what Flag said before he left though. He was right Mar
never got out into the world. He only left when he had to, he
kept himself locked up in this mansion. He had no interest of
the outside world. Mar made a promise long ago that he'd protect
this world and that's what he did. As long as this world stayed
safe there really wasn't a reason for him to leave his mansion.
Mar didn't notice Flick looking at him the first time. He was to
far lost in this own thoughts to notice it. It was the second
and third time when he finally noticed the girl. Was was she
doing? Why did she keep looking at him and then back at the
fire? Finally she asked that question and for a long time Mar
stayed quite. He didn't really know how to answer her at first.
He said nothing just looking into the fire as if he was ignoring
her now. He didn't show any signs of being angry or up set by
the question. Finally he turned his head to look at her.
He simply shrugged a bit and started to speak. "I...I don't
know. I never thought about it before. I never even really
thought about those two being my friends either to be honest.
They aren't the only people I know though." Mar looked back at
the fire and continued to speak. "I know them of course, but I
also know a man named Chess. He's from a different world. Then
there's Xander, Flags teacher. He's not from another world but
he's not from this world either. It's hard to explain. I mean if
you were to ask them if they saw me as a friend I guess they'd
say yes. I mean I don't hate them so I guess that makes them my
friend." He grew silent for a moment looking into the fire. It
was getting closer and closer to dying out now. "Then there's
you Flick. You seem like a nice enough person. I guess I could
think of you as a friend. You don't mind me being so when you
and me talk. Plus your so bouncy and cheerful it's nice." Mar
smiled slightly for a moment but then it went away. He turned
his head to look back at her. "Why do you ask?"

Flick stared at him as she waited for an answer, hugging her
knees to her chest and pulling the blanket tighter around
herself until only her vague blue eyes and black mask could be
seen through the gap she'd left herself. Peering through the
blanket she watched until he spoke, tilting her head slightly.
Listening intently while he talked, Flick wondered if she'd ever
meet this Chess too, he sounded interesting. Her eyes brightened
in the dimming light as the fire began to die, smiling beneath
the blanket. "I'm glad, I'd hate to think I had a friend that
didn't think I was their friend too. Then I guess they wouldn't
really be a friend and I quite like having friends. No reason, I
just thought I'd ask!" Flick giggled and then turned her
attention back to the fire, a rare frown crossing her brow. "It
looks like our fire is going to go out soon." The frown didn't
last long, as her expression changed pretty quickly back to her
childish smile. "But at least we're warm and dry now! What shall
we do next? Get something to eat? Go out some place? Oh! Can we
play a game?! I like playing games and there's no better way to
brighten the day than with a game. Can we?" Her eager eyes
stared up at him once more as she unwrapped herself from the
blanket.

Mar had a few other friends he didn't tell her about though.
Friends of his that were no longer around and because of that it
made things tough for him. Something had happened to them and it
was his fault, would the same thing happen to Flick? No, he
wouldn't let it happen to her besides he had Flag and Violet
around now so if anything went wrong they'd be able to help. Mar
nodded a bit when she spoke of the fire dying out. "Yeah it
seems that way." He looked around the room real quick to see if
there was anymore firewood to burn, there wasn't any though. He
looked at Flick as she started talking some more. Mar nodded yet
again in agreement with her about them being warm and dry. She
wanted to play a game now. That was something he did know about,
games. He remembered two games tag and hide and go seek. He
hadn't played them for ages though, what did she wanna play he
wondered. He shrugged a bit and nodded to her. "Sure I suppose
it couldn't hurt. What would you like to play Flick?"

Hearing that they were going to play a game, Flick squealed.
"Oh! Yay! Uhm... Oh I don't know! There's so many to choose
from! Hmm..." Standing up, Flick began to pace back and forth,
holding one hand behind her back while the other stroked her
chin in thought. For a moment, she was quiet until she squeaked
and dropped the blanket from around her shoulders. "Hide and
seek! It'll give me a chance to explore and find a really good
hiding place, I'm good at hiding. I'll hide first then! You have
to count to 20 and then you can come find me, okay?! Go!"
Without even waiting to see if he wanted to play this game, she
turned on her heel and ran out of the room, giggling childishly
as she ran out through the dining room and down the hallway. She
stopped for a moment before looking left, then right, then
continued to run to find a hiding place.

Mar blinked a bit watching her run out of the room before he
could even speak. He got up and closed to the door and stood in
the room. Nodding he slowly started to count to himself.
'1...2...3...4...5' He counted in his head with his eyes closed.
It was a big dark mansion he wondered where she'd be hiding.
'6...7...8...9...10' She'd get herself lost he thought and if
she got herself lost she'd be easy to find. He knew this mansion
like the back of his hand so he'd know all the hiding places.
'11...12...13...14...15' Almost time to find her just five
seconds left. Where would he check first? Up stairs or the floor
he was on. Well it'd be wiser to check the second floor first to
get that out of the way. '16...17...18...19.....' He opened his
eyes and looked at the door. "20, ready or not here I come I
suppose." He said and opened the door quickly moving through the
house now. He went right for the stairs making his way to the
second floor. Through the halls he went and into the rooms
searching every inch of them. She did say she was good at hiding
so maybe she would be a bit tricky to find. He made sure to stay
very quite to so she couldn't hear him coming when he got close.
As he moved through the halls he made no sounds, it was as if he
was just floating around.

Flick made her way down the hall and grinned to herself. The
rainclouds outside made the place dark and left plenty of
shadows which made if easier for her to hide, but would Mar
expect her to hide in a shadow itself? Reaching the bottom of
the stairs, she looked around and peered into the darkest
corner, before silently slipping into it and crouching down.
There she waited until she heard a door open further down the
hall. She watched as he passed her and went straight up the
stairs, then slowly, silently, crept out of her hiding place.
Childrens rules didn't apply in this game, she didn't have to
stick to one hiding place... She glanced up the stairs to make
sure he was gone and then made her way back down the hallway
she'd ran up before, backtracking since she knew he must have
heard her run in the other direction. Sneakily heading down the
hallway, she discovered a curious thought in her head. Now that
she essentially had free-range of the building as long as she
was silent and careful, it would be a wasted opportunity if she
didn't try to find the basement... With another glance over her
shoulder, she checked for Mar before continuing down the hall,
her eyes darting this way and that for any sign of a door that
would lead her downwards.

As Mar was searching he heard her foot steps running off some
place new. Mar smirked slightly and turned around just looking
down the hallway now. This game had just gotten more
interesting. She wasn't going to stay in one place the whole
time. She was gonna move around and keep things going. "Clever."
He said to himself and made his way down the hallway and back
down stairs. Now he heard her run off but he didn't know where
she ran off to, and with the mansion being so dark right now
she'd be even trickier to find. Mar was having fun, for once in
a very long time he was enjoying something other then peace and
quite. Once back down stairs he looked around a bit trying to
think of where she had gone. He didn't take the hallway she did.
He left to go search in another part of the house still
wondering if she'd get herself lost and confused the odds of
that though she'd pretty low because she was turning out to be a
very clever girl. As he searched through the house it never came
to him to look in the shadows. He did search every itch of every
room he went in like under tables and beds.

Flick could hear movement from down the hallway, but from the
sound of it, Mar was moving further away. Good, that would give
her some more time. She had tricks up her sleeve if he started
getting close and she needed him to turn around of course, but
she was glad she didn't have to use them just yet. It was then
that she saw it. Right in front of her, a single door. There
didn't seem to be anything special about the door, but Flick
knew. Her dainty hand reached out and turned the handle, pulling
it open. From the moment her eyes glanced past the frame of the
door, she knew this part of the mansion was different. A sense
of foreboding sent a chill down her spine as she stepped inside,
pulling the door over behind her but leaving it slightly ajar to
let in some light until she could find a light source. Running
her hand along the wall as she made her way down the stairs into
the basement, she felt for a light switch of some sort, pausing
as she found one.
The light flickered to dim life as she hit the switch, and for a
moment she blinked and simply stood in awe. This was definitely
much different to the building above. A frown crossed her brow
and her childish demeanour disappeared as she stepped forwards.
She was in what appeared to be some sort of reception, with a
desk that was covered in notepads and pencils, a thick layer of
dust coating them. The once-white walls were grimey with muck
and cobwebs after not being cleaned for what seemed like years
and the only other thing in the room was another door.
Cautiously, Flick made her way to it and pushed it open. Another
dark room, but as she felt around for the light switch, she
found there wasn't one. Peering through the dark, she could see
one on another wall just caught in the light from the room
behind her, but as she stepped forwards, the door she was
holding began to swing shut, making her dart back to hold it
open. Down here was not a place to be caught in the dark.
Pushing it as far as it would go, she fixed her eyes on the
switch and then ran across the room to it, reaching it just as
the door closed and she was shut in the dark. Her fingers
pressed the switch but to no avail, it didn't work. Pressing her
back to the wall, Flick stared into the darkness with wide eyes,
trying desperately to see something, anything. It was no use.
Her hands slid along the wall and she began to make her way
around the room, surely there would be another door, and maybe
behind that, another light switch? Scrambling around the room,
her hands met something that wasn't a door or a light switch,
but metal bars that protruded from the wall and stretched
outwards. A cage? Curiouser and curiouser. She made her way
around the bars and back to the wall, trying not to think of
what might be kept in such a large cage.
Further around the room she got, starting to think that it would
go on forever when finally she found a door. Pulling it open,
she felt around inside and was filled with relief when she met a
light switch, one that worked. Quickly, she moved into the new
room and pulled the door over behind her. Turning to face this
new room, she was met by what looked like a laboratory. How
strange! Metal tables covered in notebooks and clip boards, more
cages lining the walls and lab equipment which littered desks
beside each cage. "What is this place...?" She muttered softly
beneath her breath, before moving to a table to pick up a dust
covered notebook. Blowing the dust away, she flipped through the
pages and was met by something... down right unethical. Her eyes
widened as she looked through the pages; detailed descriptions
of experiments, labelled illustrations, scribbled notes of
warnings... Mar had been right, this was a place of nightmares.

Through the mansion Mar raced around searching for this girl.
This was going to be harder then he thought. Room after room he
searched, he even started to retrace his steps. It just put him
back into the main hall where you entered the mansion. He walked
up to one of the windows and looked out at the rainy night.
'Could she be hiding outside? No, there are too many places for
her to hide in here.' He thought to himself and looked at the
stairs once more. 'Maybe she's upstairs. It couldn't hurt to
check again' He thought and raced up stairs to look again. At
this point it finally hit him to check in the shadows. He
smirked a little bit and shook his head. Looking in every
shadow, looking under ever bed, and checking in every tiny
corner. Flick was no where to be found. She wasn't joking when
she said she was good at hiding. Maybe she was back in the den
thinking that would be the last place he could check being
that's where this game got started. It was a clever idea. Mar
nodded and made his way back down the to den keeping silent as
he moved through the mansion.
As Flick entered the underground laboratory little did she know
she wasn't alone down there. Things hid down there, it was much
bigger then the mansion itself so when it came to hiding it was
easy. The hellish things that lived down here could be pulled
straight from a persons nightmare. Scientist had no limitless
down here being paid by a powerful company at the time. They
were playing god trying to create things to use in war. Human's
and animals weren't safe they even made up a few species of
their own down here. Horrible horrible things being tortured
year after year with the experiments done to them. Looking
through the notes the company was brought up a few times. The
Harbinger Company named after it's founder Isaac Harbinger. He
was the one who paid for all this to be done. This company was
still around today. The company was just seen as a simple power
company. Giving power to hospitals, schools, homes, work
offices, and factories. This place was their dirty little
secret. They had their hands dipped in wars as well. Trying to
create super soldiers. Isaac wanted his company to be known
world wide. He wanted his company to be the only power company
there was. So why not help the army create terrible weapons and
soldiers so his goal could become a reality. This place was just
no longer used though, they pulled out years ago to move some
place new and just left everything here. Pulling away from this
place they only took one experiment with them. Subject
Elizabeth. From the creatures they created down here all the DNA
belonged to this one subject, Elizabeth. She or it was the start
of this all.
The Harbinger Company kidnapped innocent men, women, and even
children and brought them here never to be seen again. Isaac
just paid for what they needed he didn't run all these science
experiments. One scientist was in charge of all the other
scientist and the experiments. Doctor Lambent was the one in
charge here. The man even put his own wife through one of these
experiments...she died. Another experiment that seemed to be big
was one called Ying and Yang. Molding two human beings together
and splicing their DNA to turn them into some kind of monster.
Ying and Yang was unable to die, many times the creature was
violently tortured but it lived through each and every one of
the test. It even killed a few of the scientist feasting upon
their flesh. It was supposed to be a weapon for war but was
proved to violent to control so it was locked away for good. It
got out though and was never found. As Flick looked through the
notes she was being watched by something peeking through the
door way. It watched her for a few moments before moving away
and wandering off, it didn't even try to cover up the sounds of
it's footsteps. It'd be gone though before she even got to the
door.

Flick looked through the pages, shaking her head slightly. "This
has to be some kind of joke..." she muttered to herself, pausing
on a rather explicit illustration. It was then that she noticed
the pages had a strange color to them. They had yellowed over
time and murky fingerprints were dotted here and there but in
the bottom corner on each page was a patch of dark reddish
black, as if something had been spilled there and it had soaked
through the paper to previous pages. Lost in her thoughts, Flick
was startled by the noise at the door, letting out a squeak as
she dropped the notebook with a resounding thump as it landed on
the metal table. Her hands clamped over her mouth as her squeak
echoed around the room, hoping Mar hadn't heard her upstairs.
She wanted to explore more, despite what she'd already seen, and
if Mar knew she was down here... With a nervous gulp, she moved
over to the door slowly and peered through the gap. From here,
she couldn't see anything, so she relaxed. It was probably
nothing, her imagination. Maybe even just Mar's footsteps
echoing from upstairs, if he was directly above her and he moved
across loose floorboards, she'd probably hear it. She was just
jumpy after reading those things, that was all.
Taking a breath, she looked around and spotted several other
doors, glancing at each before moving to the nearest. She opened
it and tried the light switch, but this was another that didn't
work so she pulled it closed again and shut away the darkness.
Not wanting to risk getting stuck in a dark room again, Flick
decided she wouldn't continue anywhere without a light that
worked. She moved to the next door and tried the switch, and
although it worked, it was rather dim and cast a yellowy, murky
light across the room. This was a strange room, it looked like
it was once a small operating theater but it was much too dirty
to be used for that now. The metal table in the center was
stained with dark blood which had clumped and blackened over the
years, leaving a foul smell that almost knocked Flick back.
Coughing slightly, she held her hands over her mouth and nose
and moved forwards into the room. Why was all of this down here?
And why had it just been left like this, as if one day everyone
had just decided to get up and leave? Operating utensils were
strewn across the ground as if they'd been dropped and as Flick
bent down to pick one up, she noticed something else down there.
From the lower angle, she could now see a part of the ground
that was behind the table a moment ago and what she saw would
lead her to something that would stick in her mind's eye for a
long time. Blood trailed across the floor to the only other door
in the far corner, which looked like it led to some sort of
supply closet. With trembling hands and shaky breath, Flick
stood and debated for a moment. She'd seen enough, she should go
back upstairs and finish her game, forget what she'd seen and
not tell Mar she'd been down here. But that trail... it led to
something and her curiosity would never forgive her if she
didn't find out what. Slowly, she moved around the table to the
door, her heart pounding in her ears as she fearfully reached
for the handle. Gripping it tightly, she took a breath and
quickly pulled the door open, instantly regretting it. Clearly,
this was the source of the stench of the room, as once she'd
opened the door it hit her like a wall, making her gag and cover
her mouth and nose once again. Her eyes watered and for a moment
she was disorientated but when she realized that she was now
staring at the mangled mess of what looked like it had once been
something living, though by now she couldn't tell what, she let
out a blood-curdling scream.
Quick as a flash, she turned and ran from the room, back through
the lab and to the room with the broken light. Without meaning
to, she ran to the wrong door and into another dark room, simply
running in blind panic. By the time she stopped running, she'd
managed to find her way through two other doors, down a hallway
and into another room. Completely lost, she stood in pitch
black, her body trembling as she backed up against a wall and
stared into the darkness before her. Now what...?
