       Katawa Shoujo Spin-Off RP

Reika walked under her umbrella, wincing slightly when the
temperature started to rise and the sun came out of the cloud. A
small squeak escaped her, and she sped up her walk to a jog,
gripping the handle of the umbrella tightly. All she had wanted
was some food, but no. The sun had to come out to play. Reaching
the main hall in record time, she heaved breaths that puffed out
her whole body, not used to running like that. As she started to
calm down, she blushed, embarrassed, and snapped her umbrella
closed, weaving the handle into the belt around her dress. Her
shoulders sagged tiredly, and even more so as Misha bounced up.
"Jeez, it's like you're allergic to sunlight! Are you a
vampire?" Misha asked, at the loudest possible volume. People
turned to look, of course, and Reika's face drained of color as
they started whispering. Closing her bright blue eyes, she
fought off the urge to scream, twirling a lock of silky brown
hair around her finger. "No, Misha. I'm not a vampire."

Did Max's ears deceive him? Was someone calling him? Well, it's
as good a place to start as any; lugging all this shit around
because he couldn't find the dorm was getting old at high speed.
All this heat and exercise was bad for him. The girl with the
pink hair had said it, and she wasn't far. He turned and
marched, setting his luggage down at his sides with a thud.
"Speak of the Devil, and the Devil shall appear." He grinned
behind his black, circle-frame shades and tipped his wide-brim
black hat. "Now, could Seņor Diablo ask one of you ladies for
your assistance? I seem to have misplaced myself. I should be at
the dorm, unpacking my things, but I'm not, and that's a
problem. Short version: I'm Maximilian Winter, and I'm fuckin'
       lost."

'Do. Not. Laugh. Do nooooooot laugh. No laughing. No.' But even
as she thought it, a smile slipped through and she chuckled
quietly at "Max." When he asked for help finding the dorms,
Reika edged herself out of Misha peripheral vision and shook her
head frantically. If he wanted to get rid of of his luggage in
the next six hours, Misha was not the guide he wanted. "Oh! I
can help! Me and Shizune can help you!" Misha piped up. Reika
seethed, feeling she would be somehow roped into spending the
day with Misha. "Um. Misha... Didn't you have a PROJECT for
STUDENT COUNCIL you need to go do?" Reika tried shoving
buzzwords at her to distract her, and thank God, it worked.
Misha turned to Shizune, who had been on her cellphone, playing
some game, and after a short exchange dragged her away. Reika
smiled, no, grinned, and subtly pumped her fist at her side.
Turning back to the boy, she switched to English, which she had
never been able to rid of a vaguely German accent, probably
because Japanese, German, and English were all spoken at home.
"Sorry about that. I'm not one to get in the way of true love or
whatever if you think she's cute, but if you wanted your stuff
to be in your room by nightfall, Misha isn't a first pick
guide." Reika stuck out her hand for a handshake, but retracted
it somewhat awkwardly and waved. "Sorry.. er... You just didn't
look stingy enough for a handshake. I'm Reika. Riley, actually,
but people here are better with Japanese names. Ready to go?"
Reika looked outside, her eyebrows creasing in the center as she
looked outside. Hopefully he liked her and she could stall to
stay in the boy's rooms til nightfall. Maneuvering her umbrella
out of her belt, she opened it with a flourish and opened the
door. Looking back she said, "I'll have to run once we're
outside, try and keep up," and was racing toward the dorms,
       keeping her umbrella over her.

Max followed Reika, or Riley, or something out of the main
building. 'The pink-haired Misha girl left with the deaf
cellphone game Shizune girl and now I'm following the parasol
German Reika-Riley girl. Well, as long as nobody starts
yodeling. Do the Japanese yodel? What would that sound like?
Maybe someone should start yodeling.' That was the problem with
his hat. He couldn't wear headphones- good ones anyway- with it
on. No headphones, no music. No music, and these kind of things
happen. "That's the problem with yodeling hats." he mumbled.
"What? No." 'Come on, brain! I need a distraction!' "Ah, the
time has come, my newest friend, to talk of other things! Of
shoes, and ships and ceiling wax, of cabbages and kings! And why
the sea is boiling hot, and whether pigs have wings." He
grinned, knowing she must be confused enough now to forget his
yodeling hats comment. "Alice in Wonderland." He hefted his bags
to get a better grip on them, but his hands were getting sweaty
inside his gloves. "Ah, is the dorm far? The sun and I have a
long-standing disagreement. Kind of like how that iceberg
       disagreed with the Titanic."

Reika's ears pricked up as Max muttered to himself. Strange kid.
That's alright though. Strange, she could handle.
Socio/psychopathic she could handle. Horribly disfigured she
could handle. Sun, she could not. When he started quoting Alice,
she smirked and replied, "Yeah, I know. It's my favorite story.
What I would do for a trip down the rabbit hole..." For a minute
her eyes, and mind, wandered for a moment and she slowed her
pace. Just the right time, too, as they had reached the boys
dorms. Shaking her head, and clearing her mind, she turned and
smiled, opening the door for him. "After you, Max." While she
followed him down the hall, trusting he knew which room was his,
she asked, "You have a problem with the sun, too? Huh. I've
never met anyone else with a problem like mine. Well, sort of
like mine. You're not a vampire." She laughed, albeit somewhat
       bitterly, remembering Misha's comment.

Oh, a problem like hers, eh? Well. That would make things a bit
more tolerable that his last school. Another school for the
people normal people don't want to look at. They didn't have a
problem with anyone. No legs? No problem. Blind? That's fine.
You could be a quadriplegic half-dog midget and they wouldn't
mind. But the minute you tell anyone that you don't like going
outside, or that light makes your eyes sting, you're a vampire,
or a freak, or emo or something. Something physical wasn't bad,
because everyone had that. If anything else was different about
you though, then son you better watch your back. Max set his
luggage down outside of his room, 214, and unlocked his door,
taking his shades off at the same time. He raised an eyebrow at
Riley, showing her his bright red eyes. Albinism took the color
out of more than your skin and hair. Without any pigmentation,
the iris, and even the pupil, are the color of the blood that
flows through them. "I'm not a vampire, huh?" He removed his
wide-brim hat with a flourish and tossed it into his room,
bringing his luggage in and setting it on his bed. "You're free
to watch me put my things away, but it's not mandatory or
anything. Do these rooms have dimmer switches? I see better in
       low light."

Reika took a moment to marvel at the strange color of his eyes
before flicking the dimmer switch down. "That might answer your
question. And.. Ah... Promise I'm not trying anything but I
think I'll stay in your room for a bit. One or two trips outside
is quite enough for me. Otherwise I'll start looking rather
nasty." Her nose wrinkled, and she shuddered. Forgetting to ask
permission, but also lacking another place to really sit, she
bounced onto the small bed in the corner of the room, and tucked
herself just onto the edge, trying not to get in his way. "So
let's see if I can figure you out. You're albino, duh, you're
American, and you are either naturally showy or trying to make a
big impression on someone. Maybe me, hm?" She winked, hoping he
knew she was just joking around. "Why'd you come all the way
here? No schools for freaks and fuck ups in 'Merica?"

Max sloughed his black coat off and hung it up in his closet,
leaving him in his crimson dress shirt, black jeans and black
gloves. "Schools for the fucked up? Yeah, we got them. There
were some rather knifey complications at my last school, so they
shipped me off to Japan! That's the logical step, right?" He set
his computer up on the desk he'd been supplied with, plugged his
speakers in and began playing his expansive collection of music.
"Random!" he exclaimed, clicking the 'next' button. It took a
moment to shuffle through all of it, but soon enough a fiddle
began to play. Maximilian grinned. "Voltaire. Man has good
taste." He more spoke to himself than to his guest, but
immediately turned his attention back to her as he sorted
through his clothes. "As for your other question, theatricality
means quite a bit to me, yes. The world has, for the most part,
forgotten about melodrama, the acting we do in our everyday
lives." He paused as the song finished and changed. "It's funny.
We're all just actors, simply playing our part in the grand
illusion. We stick to the unwritten script and do what the
invisible director says. It's so fragile, but it refuses to be
broken." Max's eyes went cloudy, as if he were imagining the
results of Life's actors refusing to continue the show. "That
took a surprisingly depressing turn. The time has come to talk
of other things! Tell me about yourself, Reiko-Riley. What's a
       nice, parasol-carrying, German-sounding, apparently vampiric
young woman such as yourself doing in a place like this?"

His description of life being essentially all an act brought a
derisive snort from the girl. "Someone was born in the wrong
time. Some Shakespeare guy is a teeny bit famous for his play
containing the words, 'All the world's a stage, and all the men
and women merely players.' I find that a bit too grim, I like to
think people are genuine. Oh, and as for what's wrong with
me.... Have you ever seen the Phantom of the Opera? I have what
most people presume the Phantom had, I'm violently allergic to
sun. If I'm out in the sun it'll sizzle my skin right off."
Reika seemed unperturbed by her condition, smiling as she
explained, even when coming to the part where going outside
would skin her rather effectively. Flicking her hair over her
shoulder, she continued watching him get ready, vaguely
wondering what he meant by "knifey complications." Maybe he was
a psychopath? Heh, that'd get Misha to leave her alone. Glancing
out the window, she noticed the sherbet colored sky as the sun
set. Reika sighed quietly, glad if and when she decided to leave
       she could do so peacefully.

"It appears, my lady, that we are two peas in a pod. I'm sure
the universe farmer is going to be rather disappointed if this
pod only has two peas, though. I don't think that's very many
for reality-peas. Even if one is pale and dramatic, and the
other is a little singed with a tiny umbrella." Still putting
his clothes away, he waited to hear the next song begin. "Hmm.
Beck. All the world's a stage, and everything else is
vaudeville. That one wasn't Shakespeare, but it ties in.
Reciting the lines of those that came before us. I'm the dude
playing the dude disguised as another dude. Vaudeville." Max
yawned. Tucking away the last of his personal clothes, he
answered what might be a question forming in his guest's head.
"Gothic fashion is both visually appealing and exposes almost no
skin. No skin win-win." He chuckled at his rhyme. "Vaudevillian,
that's me. Calloo, callay, to hit the hay! We're cabbages and
kings." Max undid the top button of his shirt before he
remembered the young woman in his midst. He held up a finger and
disappeared into the bathroom, emerging moments later in silk
pinstripe pajamas. Stopping the flow of music from his PC, he
addressed his companion. "You're welcome to stay and watch me
       sleep, if you so choose."
