".....?"
Gideon remained silent. His gaze followed her movements for a
while as she began to circle him. Examining him. This made him
curious. What did one such as herself seek with him? What could
she want from someone who was just a brute..? A mercenary? The
thoughts filled his mind as she continued to study him, her
intentions unclear as her eyes took notice of all of the
muscular features of his body.
When asked if he knew what he was, he shook his head. He had
encountered many creatures in the past, but he could not recall
one that had a resemblance to the one who stood behind him now.
He felt uneasy still, taking a deep breath to relax his body a
little more, attempting to hide his powers in fear of causing
the stranger to panic.
"... I am just a mercenary... Nothing more..."
Being of very little words, whenever he did speak was quite the
occasion. He was a silent person. Never asking questions, never
starting pointless conversations. He was forward and honest. His
voice was deep and firm.

The faerie scoffed loudly, “I know you are a mercenary. I meant
what are you? Like your species…”
She scoffed again, rolling her eyes at the man; but she could
tell that he was speaking the truth. How could a man that had
travelled extensively as he had not seen one of her kind? It was
possible. Many faeries didn’t venture towards human villages
much anymore. The iron located within the villages and towns
prevented them from doing so, unless they wished to become sick.
A growl rumbled within her lungs as she rounded the man. Her
swirling eyes stared up at him, and her hand shot out to grasp
behind his neck. She would pull gently, though, because the
electrical charges passing into her hand kept from being
abrasive. Her lips brushed his ear as she whispered to him.
“I’m a faerie, a faerie queen to be exact.”
Her smile broadened as she released his neck and stared up at
him. She could have kissed him but she chose not to. She would
be kind and give him a choice, he wouldn’t survive otherwise.
She also wanted him to choose to be a faerie for simple fact
that she did not want to take is fre will from him.
“I have a question for you, Gideon.”

".....Human."
He spoke, still curious as to what her intentions were. She was
not clear about her objective, nor about why she called
specifically him. Or even how she knew his name. This confused
Gideon tremendously. He watched her actions carefully. He saw
her hand move towards him, feeling her touch on the back of his
neck. She felt extremely soft, almost unnatural, but the warmth
of her body made him question that.
Feeling the soft brush of her lips at his ear while she
whispered made him slightly nervous. He began to question
whether or not she merely called him to seduce him or if she had
something else in mind. Upon hearing that she was a faerie
queen, he began to think that the reason why she could not bare
to have him approach her with his weapons and armor. There might
have been something about his equipment that could be dangerous
to her. When told that she had a question for him, Gideon merely
nodded in acknowledgement, signalling her to ask him her
question.
"......?"

"How would you.."
Melanie had began to ask without waiting for the man to
acknowledge, but his single word broke her concentration. She
had not expected him to be human, his appearance made her
believe otherwise. Her swirling eyes stared up at with with
astonishment, her joyous feeling fleeing her body. If he were
human, he may not survive the transformation. The very thought
troubled her, because of how she reacted when she touched him.
Electrical charges had never passed from another and into her
upon contact with them. Each time she had touch another being,
mostly humans, a cold sensation moved through her limbs. This
signified they were nothing to her, merely a plaything that
would only last a short amount of time. But now though, her body
buzzed with unknown feelings for this man before her and that
bugged her.
"You're human? You can't be human. I have never seen a human
such as you."
The faerie raged, moving back and forth in front of the man in
quick movements. This would never do. She needed the man, that
much she knew, but she did not want his life at risk. She paused
for a moment and stared up at him with fear in her eyes, an
emotion she did not feel often. She would simply ask. It would
be his choice and his only. If he died, the she would cry
heavily; but if he lived, she would have her king.
"How would you feel to being a king?"

"King...?"
Such a thought never crossed his mind before. Since he was a
mercenary, he had no need for such unnecessary titles. Royalty
meant nothing to him for that would actually keep him from being
able to fight the way he normally would. He disliked the idea of
being a king. He may never be his true-self as one and he may
never venture out the way he has.
He shook his head when she asked her question. As beautiful as
she was, he had no desire to take up such a title. A simple
mercenary such as him could never make a king, especially if he
needed to change who he was in order to achieve such a status.
With no desire to be a king, he wondered what this stranger
would ask of him now.
"......I must refuse."

The faerie’s heart plummeted when he refused her offer, and the
fear she felt began to swallow her completely. Her glamour
fluctuated, hiding portions of her true self and then revealing
them. She did not want to die, did not want to become a shade.
Melanie wanted to live, to rule, to love, and to have fun. A
single tear began to roll down her cheek, the liquid not clear
but silver.
“But I need you to be! If you don’t, I will….”
Her words were cut short, a thunderous crash removing her
attention from the man. The crash did not come from the
direction from the village but deeper in the forest. A roar soon
followed behind the crash, one that sent a chill down her spine.
Her rich eyes moved back to the man, and her heart beat more
heavily against her chest.
Without warning, or asking for permission, she kissed the man
with intent to change him. Melanie knew what was coming, who was
coming; and she did not want this man to suffer, nor did she
want to be taken back. When she broke the kiss, her eyes bore
into his while she waited. The effects of her kiss would begin
shortly, starting with a searing pain in his skull.
“I am sorry, Gideon. Please forgive me, but I had to. I will
explain when you awaken.”
As soon as she uttered the words, two trees fell into the
clearing, one landing on either side of Melanie. The faerie
stood in their place, anger and determination written upon his
pale face. At his feet, ice began to extend forth from him,
killing all the greenery nearby.
“Oh, Melanie! A human, really?”

The roar somewhat startled Gideon. He was unsure what to expect
but he felt a presence that could do him harm nearby. Without
his weapons, he could only defend himself with his demonic
abilities. He took a deep breath which was soon cut short by the
feeling of the faeries lips pressing up against his. Startled,
he pushed her back a little, pulling away from the kiss.
"......!"
Why did she do that? Was she really trying to seduce him? He
felt something strange but decided to shrug it off for a moment.
The thuds from the trees falling beside him somewhat startled
him as a man approached them. Watching the life around them
slowly die from the mere presence of this man, Gideon felt that
he might need to defend himself.
While still confused about what was going on and normally not
worried about others when his safety came into question, he
stood in front of Melanie, holding his arm out with the intent
to protect her. He had questions of his own that he wanted her
to answer and felt that this man could possibly pose a threat to
more than just her. The flesh of his right hand began to morph
into rock and metal, a dark orange aura surrounding it as he
looked towards this new stranger.
".....Who are you...?"

Melanie watched the man in anger then confusion. He should be
writhing in pain on the ground as the change took a hold upon
him; but he stood before her, attempting to protect her. She
temporarily forgot the presence of the other faerie and watched
the man curiously. How could he not be changing, becoming her
faerie? She had kissed him, with intent and need, and he stood
before her unphased.
“What are you really, Gideon?” She asked suspiciously, just as
the other faerie spoke up. “Who I am is of no concern to you,
human. I am here for her.” He pointed at Melanie, his icy finger
completely extended.
A shudder moved through her and she moved to step in front of
Gideon. She knew he could not fight this faerie, at least not on
fair terms. He needed his weapons, but they would certainly kill
her as well as the other faerie. She would have to settle this
all her own, without involving the human if possible. As her
fingernails extended into razor-sharp talons, she glanced at
Gideon.
“Go, get your blades. Retrieve them and defend yourself.
Balthazar will try to kill you for kissing me, though I was the
one who kissed you. Go!” She yelled, turning her attention back
to the winter faerie. “I am not going back with you! I will die
before I do! I will not be your queen, nor you my king! Be gone
and leave me be.”
The winter faerie laughed her and crossed his arms over his
chest, a very muscular and well defined chest. “You are
betrothed to me, Mel. You must return, or your father’s kingdom
will fall.”

Gideon watched the man a moment, still confused but then his
question would be answered later. He held a scowl to the man who
responded in what Gideon felt as a somewhat disrespectful
manner. He did not like that the man would refuse to answer his
question. He watched as his finger pointed towards Melanie.
When Melanie stepped in front of him, Gideon stepped back a
little, caught off guard by her sudden actions. When she
requested that he went back for his weapons, Gideon did not
move. He knew the presence of his weapons and armor would very
much kill Melanie without even having to touch her. Rather than
risk her safety, he pulled her back and looked into her eyes, a
smile on his face as his eyes turned a pitch black hue.
"Keep your distance...."
He turned back towards his new opponent, taking two steps
forward so as not to harm Melanie with his transformation.
"RRRAAAAAAGH!"
Upon yelling, all the flesh in his body began to morph into an
amalgam of rock and metal, starting from his feet and moving all
the way up to his torso, then his head. Opening his eyes, they
were bright orange while his skin was now dark brown and black
from the fusion of rock and metal. Once fully transformed, he
took his battle stance, his body emitting a copper orange and
black aura.

Horror filled her eyes as she watched the man’s transformation.
He certainly wasn’t a human, which was most certain. No, a human
would not transform in such a manner, but what he was only
brought one word to Melanie’s mind. All of her people revered
the name and rarely uttered it out of fear. The metals within
her eyes ceased in their dance, frozen by her fear.
“Dybbuk.” She whispered and stared at the man.
Balthazar remained as he stood, rock solid and free of fear; but
Melanie could feel that he trembled within. The winter faerie
stared at her for a moment then back at the figure that once
been human. A step, then another, and he began to disappear into
the forest. He knew better than to trifle with a demon, but
Melanie knew he would not relent in his pursuit of her.
“I’ll be back, Melanie. You will be my queen, this I swear.”
While she trembled, the faerie queen fell to her knees. She was
unable to pull her eyes away from Gideon despite her fear. Even
in his current form, she could still see his beauty. She
desperately wanted him to be her king, but she knew he never
would be. She would die soon; whether it is due to the lack of a
king or because summer and winter shouldn’t mix, she did not
know.
“Gideon?” She whispered, “You’re a Dybbuk?”
