High School for the Truly gifted, and not so gifted.
By: jellybean081486 Date: April 6, 2013, 3:10 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
School is back in session.
The hallways fill with young, hormonal teenagers heading from
one class to another; filling their minds with subjects such as
history, social sciences, chemistry, algebra, and many others.
Teachers stand in the doorways to classrooms, watching their
students with ever patient eyes. They are readied to mold the
young minds of the children under their care, preparing them for
life after these halls. They know life can be difficult, full of
unexpected changes and difficult circumstances; but they hide
this from their eyes, from their lessons, and past on a smile
that is truly kind.
The students within these halls and classrooms come from many
walks of life. Some are young deities, elementals, powerful
mages and grand warriors here to hone their skills, and grow
stronger in mind and body; while others are mere humans, elves,
and halflings, hoping to blind in and make friends with those
more powerful than they.
Enjoy yourselves, make friends and possibly enemies, find love
and romance, and show the others what your true gifts are. This
is a time to grow and change, laugh and cry, and create
relationships that will last an eternity. Do not be hesitant of
what lies ahead, fearful of those around you, or waste time
chasing dead-ends. These are some of the best years of your
life, but do not be too serious or you shall miss out on fun.
(Here should you use characters already in use, please revert
them back to their teenage years, and try not to reference
anything that may have happened to them later in life. Also, the
teachers here are not going to be playable characters. This is
about our characters as teens, and how they would interact with
each other within the borders of the school.)

The day had started horribly, and was only getting worse. Elora
had woken up late, much later than she should have, and had to
scramble to get ready for her first day of school. It did not
help that her brother’s voice taunted and teased her, his words
echoing within her mind. That tended to happen when your
brother’s soul rested within your mind.
‘You’re an idiot, Elora. You should have set your alarm.’
“I did! You kept me from hearing it with your incessant
babbling.”
He laughed as she ran through the forests, heading to the back
door of the school. She was lucky she lived within running
distance of building; otherwise she would be even later than she
already was. In two moments, she was upon the threshold and
passing into the artificially lit hallways.
Her steps came to a screeching halt. The halls were empty, and
the doorways to the classrooms were closed. With a quick glance
at her watch, she had already missed ten minutes of her first
class.
“Lovely! Absolutely lovely!” She cried, leaning into a nearby
locker.
‘Like I said, you are an idiot, Elora.’ Eroan laughed and
chastised her, though it was his fault she was late.
“Shut up! You have been such an ass since you died!”

He hadn't woken up late, he hadn't been running late, he just
didn't quite care. His huff of a sigh passed as he quietly
walked down the hallways throughout the school as he looked
around the classroom doors. All of them closed and yet he had
missed his first class. His second no doubt wouldn't be any
better. Nor any worse than his first. He had been there for the
attendance check and that was basically it. He had slipped out
the door when the teacher wasn't looking. And he had continued
to walk around the school. He heard a voice as it happened to be
a girl, he had noticed her slight shouts as he walked by.
"Arguing with yourself is the first sign to insanity..." Was all
he said, his voice light but still heard. His accent of English
and Russian both entangled as his words flitted outward towards
her. His steps were slight but his feet were correct in
placement. He was quicker at his steps, his pace more than
normalcy in this dread of a high school. "I'm skipping so you
know, in case a teacher asks you're out to the restroom. I know
the drill..." Again his voice had faded as he slid into the
locker across from her, sliding down until he as in a sitting
position. "Ran late, and missed first class. Off to a bad start
so far. Things can only get better."
His head was down the whole time, his hood over his head as he
nodded. Looking up only to catch her eyes, his a glossy iced
blue. "Name's Shawn Townsend, Shawn just the same. If you need
any help I'll be wandering the classes and hallways..." He
looked back down and fixed his hood which shifted just barely
enough to show slight trails of dirty blonde hair which was
easily seen as scattered about. His hoody draping over his
broadened shoulders and a crest over the left breast as he
nodded. His jeans with tears near the knees as he stood there,
his shoes a bleak white with small black and blue lines striped
in all directions. At a standing he was around 5'11", and he was
quite slim. "Don't worry about the first days assignments, they
are used to scare students about the amount of work they won't
have to do. Seriously, teachers are easy to read..." Again he
cut himself off then looked away to both sides. "Principal's in
the office and won't be out until we start second semester when
all the drama starts, no need to worry about the clutter in the
hallway just yet..." He stopped again then stood up keeping his
back against the lockers as he did so. Nodding in her direction
as his hand brushed his hood back in place.

‘Look, someone already thinks you are crazy. My day can’t get
any better.’
Elora’s flickered towards the boy, than moved back to the
polished floor. Hundreds of thoughts passed through her mind in
that instant, but they were difficult to decipher with her
brother clouding her mind. One, however, rang out over the
clutter of her thoughts and her brother’s annoying taunting.
Would this boy still talk to her if he knew what she truly was?
“I’m not crazy, I promise.” She replied, glancing at the boy
where he sat on the floor. “And, I’m Elora, Elora Pain.”
She brushed hair out of her eyes, the haunted green eyes
lingering upon the boy for a moment. Her anxiety began to grow,
in which she pulled her lip into her mouth and nibbled upon by
her teeth. Her pale flesh, and slightly pointed ears, stood out
drastically in the artificial light, the hem of her dress ending
at midthigh.
“Shouldn’t you be in class, Shawn?” She asked, turning her
attention toward the door that she had entered.
Maybe she should just leave, and come back tomorrow. Hopefully
she wouldn’t be late then, and it would be much simpler to
explain an entire day’s absence versus being late for her first
class. But the boy caught her attention again due to his
movements. As he stood, she edged towards the door, her back
pressed heavily against the cold metal of the locker.

His eyes had shifted, but not to her, to the tile as he
shrugged, seeing her cower slightly against the locker as he
stood. "No need for that now. I won't hurt anyone who doesn't
show a threat." He held up his hand to her and nodded.
"A guy like me wouldn't gain anything from learning what these
people have to teach, they won't even answer a simple question
on why they teach us the way they do." He shrugged again this
time his head being picked up again. "None of them have answered
my question on why they can't teach us of the other side of the
stories either, the wars we fought are one sided, at least the
way they teach. Though there are two sides. Makes history more
interesting if you told both."
He looked around again and then back at her, noticing now her
ears, dress, lips, and finally her eyes as he looked at her. "I
don't need class to learn that I'm gonna be what I like, no
matter the day or time we can learn more of what we need without
others teaching us of the history or math or reading.. None of
it is really essential, I mean you don't see an NBA star with a
Master's degree in anything do you? They have only the bare
minimum that is needed to become such. So why do we labor
ourselves with meaningless tasks?" He looked at her as his brow
raised up. "And I won't drop out, have to keep the parents happy
somehow..."

“All history that is written is one sided, written by the
victor. Learning is not a meaningless task, either. It is better
to know than not to know and live in ignorance.”
She stared at the boy, wondering why he had such a belligerent
frame of mind towards education. Education was important, even
to those who did not require them for their profession. She
shook her head and stepped towards the man, her face gone
serious.
“Your lack of respect for education is unwarranted. Everyone
needs an education, whether they are a professional athlete or
an average citizen. Without an education, we fall into
ignorance, and do not know how to battle our way free.” She
chastised him, just as her brother decided to give her his two
cents.
“He’s right, Elora. Education is pointless. I don’t need it, do
I?”
“You’re dead, of course you do not need an education, you
idiot.”
Elora’s eyes widened as she stared at the man, and slapped her
hand over her mouth. She truly did need to stop replying to her
brother aloud, at least when she was at school. She sighed and
began to back towards the door, her small, pale hand reaching
for the handle. Why was this boy making her so nervous, more
nervous that she had previously been? She shuddered, and watched
him warily, wondering what his motive was to be speaking to her.
“Why are you talking to me?” She asked before she could stop
herself.
‘Uh oh! You better not think he’s cute, Elora. I will kick your
butt!’

He merely raised an eyebrow to the smaller framed woman who was
now chastising him he chuckled and shook his head. Slowly
raising his hand to his chest and shaking his head. "So what you
are telling me it is irrelevant on what the ignorance of those
around us is, we need the education? or are you insinuating that
we should learn of the actions and reactions of those around us
who are that of more ignorance than myself?" He shook his head
and then stopped. Hearing her exclaim and cover her mouth he
shook his head. "Chastising us both now are you?"
He stopped to merely grab the handle to the door she was walking
into. "Your brother is right, you shouldn't be liking me, for I
am not what anyone should want or care for. I'm ignorant,
arrogant, and most of all the worst kind of person when it comes
to others. But I do help and care when the time is right. And as
for why I'm talking to you, I saw fit to tell you that the
arrogance of the teachers is more than my own, as well, ask them
of the other sides to the stories they teach.. You'll see why I
refuse to be taught by the likes of them..."
He pulled his hand back and backed a step away, bowing before
standing himself up again. Turning from his foothold and looked
over his shoulder. "Oh, and try to be less chastising towards
others you just met, as well as your brother.. He won't be there
for you too much when he's only trying to help... He may just
disappear..." He stopped and then slowly stepped away, his pace
quickening as he did. Holding his hand up in a wave before he
stepped to the right and went down another hallway.

“No, that’s….” She paused when he mentioned her brother, and her
brows narrowed. “How….. How do you know about my brother?”
Elora watched the boy step near her and open the door, her heart
beating heavily at his closeness. Her stomach churned with her
nerves, her teeth capturing her bottom lip once more. She hoped
that he wasn’t going to kiss her. She had just met him, and was
unsure how she felt about him after his disapproval of
education. How could she like someone whose views were much
different than her own, and nearly mirrored that of her
brother’s?
‘He’s not ignorant, Elora. You did mention me being dead, you
idiot.’ Eroan chastised her.
Her heart screeched to a halt when he mentioned her brother
leaving, no longer being there for her. That terrified her more
than anything, more than his actual death. She couldn’t lose
him, not when she was the cause of his death. She breathed in
quick, shallow breaths and she reached out for the boy as he
began to walk away, but was not quite fast enough.
When he turned the corner, she started after him, chasing him
down the hallway. She was running as fast as she could, and when
she rounded the corner, she slid on the polished floor and ran
into his back. Elora fell to the floor, hitting her butt onto
the floor roughly, causing her to yelp. She remained upon the
floor, too embarrassed to move.

He had only just turned the corner when he realized she was
behind him, and he kept walking still. Feeling her hit his back
and he stopped catching himself and hearing a yelp he turned his
head. "Hello again, come back so soon?" His question was merely
rhetorical as he rolled his eyes afterwards.
Leaning down only to take a his hands under her arms. His skin
callused and cold as ice, his effort to lift her up was that of
nothing and he had her standing in less than a second as he
stood up. His eyes gazing down at her as they were not a foot
apart. His hands back at his sides as he raised his brow again
in question.
"Watch where you walk next time... I don't want you to get hurt
and be considered the bad guy for getting you down..." He
stopped and took a step back just enough for him to turn around
again. Taking a few steps before stopping and shaking his head.
His head turned and he looked over his shoulder again. "As for
about you and your brother, many people in this school have two
souls in them it's quite easy to see when you don't pay
attention to the teachers but to the way others act around you
in the classroom. After all, for me right now, learning is
useless. Which is why I know your brother cares about you, you
just don't know how much trouble could be cause by not following
what he says. He's supposed to take care of you isn't he?"
His feet slowly stepped again, this time his pace lessened as he
walked away. "He wouldn't lie to you anyway, he knows what he's
talking about so you should follow what he says more often.
Though he wasn't nagging when you slept, he was actually trying
to wake you up."

Elora’s entire body went cold when the boy spoke with such
certainty. Her fall forgotten, she stared at his back as he
moved away from her. This boy knew more about what was occurring
to her than she did, and that frustrated her. No one should know
that much about her after a few moments of interaction. A growl
mixed with a whimper left her lips, and her hand shot out.
“Stop talking like you know me. You don’t!” She yelled, not
caring about their surroundings. “You don’t know my brother
either!”
She reached to grab his hand, to stop him, but immediately let
go when her warm hand met his cold flesh. She froze again,
staring at him. How could he possibly be so cold when he was
wearing that hoodie? Who was this boy? What was it about him
that was frustrating her so thoroughly? Was it his still his
great disregard for education, or the fact he knew her brother’s
motives when she did not?
She growled again, ran to block his path and placed her hand
upon his chest. She stared up at him with a defiant look, her
green eyes hardened with anger. Elora had thrown her books down
onto the floor and given this boy her full, undivided attention.
“You talk so highly, yet you are just as much of an ass as Eroan
is. You are worse than any human I have ever had the displeasure
of meeting. You may not have mocked my heritage openly, but you
mocked my values and spoken as if you know. And then you walk
away, as if what you said hasn’t affected me in some way. You’re
a prick, even if you are cute….”
