This Isn't Wonderland *Chapter 1: Two Coma Patients*
By: Truth Date: March 8, 2013, 5:41 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
This tale begins with two rabbits one white and one brown. To
very different rabbits, two very different children. It's funny
how life sometimes connects two beings in such a unique way. So
now let us start the tale of these two children, and these two
rabbits.

Red closed her eyes, exhausted. It had been another long day of
chores, taking after the small ones, and therapy, which seemed
to do her more harm than good as of late. Her hand trembled with
the effort it took to reach up and sweep the hip length black
hair out of her face. The weak breath that escaped parched lips
was enough to stir the dust around her. While most of the house
was kept clean, Red often neglected her own room. There just
wasn't enough time in a day, but every third Sunday, her room
would get some attention. A thorough top-to-bottom cleaning. If
only the other occupants of the house, her 'family' would pull
their weight...
The darkness behind her lids was both a comfort and a curse. It
frightened her a little- the unknown of the loss of sight. It
was like playing a game of roulette. Every time her eyes closed
for a significant amount of time, there was always a good chance
she could end up somewhere she didn't want to be anymore. This
time she won, as she opened her eyes and she was till in her
room. It was a comfort to her. The bed groaned under her weight
a she shifted to the side and looked about the room with lazy
eyes. In the dying sun, the room was a wonderland in itself. It
was full of drawings, paintings, sketches of the people she'd
met and the places she'd been throughout her young lifetime. She
rarely looked at them, always wishing to return to the beautiful
vacation spots and sandy beaches when she did. If she looked at
them too long, often they'd twist into what they really were in
her slowly twisting mind, Dark, dangerous people, polluted
spaces... None of them very welcoming.
She nuzzled her pale face into the pillow she lay on, and gave
another small sigh. Pulling her knees in to curl into a ball,
Red began to slowly drift off into what promised to be either a
very blank sleep, or one hell of a nightmare. As luck would have
it, after sleep overtook her, the dream was very dull. However,
when she awoke that morning, she was as tired as when she'd
fallen asleep. She felt a soft, cotton-like material nuzzle
against her face, and had to resist the urge to jump up and
break the little fingers of the relative that was trying to wake
her in a sneaky manner.
"Get away from me!.." she said, sitting up urgently and
stretching out the tense muscles from her sleep, hazel pools
scanning the room for the little terror that had woken her.
Nothing. Red shrugged lazily and headed downstairs to receive a
stale piece of bread, oatmeal, and a cup of lukewarm tea for her
breakfast. She sighed softly, and ate it anyway, knowing that
the sustenance would have to suffice for the morning. She had a
long, hard workload ahead of her that day. When what passed for
breakfast was finished, and the small children had scampered off
to do their business, Red collected the dishes and made her way
outside, sitting in front of a bowl filled with a murky water,
it wasn't nice but it was better than letting the dishes rot
with mould.
With her elbows deep into the sudsy water, and the sound of the
dishes sloshing around, the lonely girl would take this time to
contemplate her situation and how her future would pan out. Oh,
how she wished that she could come into a sudden fortune and
have those in her family become her slaves, allow for a role
reversal...or even if she could just be their ruler, a queen
perhaps? That would suffice. A sudden splash of the horrid
liquid soaking her upper arms brought Red from her daydream,
gritted teeth and piercing orbs looking around her to find the
culprit, although nothing met her gaze but a fluffy brown rabbit
across the yard. And it was..waving?
Arching a brow, Red shook her hands dry as she rose to her feet,
immediately feeling a sudden urge to follow, so she did. Her
tiny, muddy feet carried the youngster across the uneven paving
slabs and weeds as her eyes never left the rabbit as it bound
over the fence and into the open road. "You'll help me make my
dream come true, Mr rabbit...to become a queen? Yes?" she
muttered. The tiny animal had her mesmerised, the thought of
freedom coming from one little creature, it was crazy...but it
also distracted the girl from the oncoming traffic, the last
thing she would see was the rabbit eyes looking into hers before
it disappeared into the forest on the other side of the road. A
few seconds of engines shutting off and gasps before complete
silence.
It was just an accident....but it would come to free
little Red's mind in so many ways as she lay in her deep
slumber...all thanks to a little brown rabbit...

become more than dreams. Welcome a world of your creation, but
someone is missing. There should be two of you, so please wait a
bit longer my Queen. Wait a bit longer for the lady in white."

Porcelain sat in the comfortingly familiar wicker chair on her
family's porch, surrounded by chatter and refreshment. As per
usual, people swarmed around her, often prodding her for
attention. On the surface, she smiled broadly, appearing to soak
in the attention. But inwardly, she wished desperately for them
to leave her be. All she wanted was space, was that so awful?
Ironically, even as the plea crossed her mind, a pair of young
boys raced past, knocking her elbow, and by association her
whole position, out of place. She sighed quietly, her white,
strangely pigment-free hair blowing in a warm southern breeze.
Glancing idly around, Porcelain realized for a moment, no one
was looking her way. Quickly and quietly, she crept across the
porch and down the stairs, maneuvering almost snake-like through
the crowd. She tip-toed around the corner of her house, to the
small road she lived on, and made a break for it. Once a safe
distance away, she laughed aloud. Peace, at last. Her laugh
lifted into the air and floated away, soon forgotten, and
Porcelain wondered at how much space she had. Inhaling deeply,
she took off running once more, no real destination in mind, but
feeling an adventure was just around the corner.
Eventually, her mortality caught up with her, and her small
lungs began to tire. Slowing down to an easy stroll, she began
to look around her. There wasn't much, just a small, paved,
single-lane road lined by wheat fields. Not many people cared
for the extensive fields, but she always thought the way they
bent in the breeze was quite beautiful. While looking in the
fields, something caught her eye. Something was darting through
the fields! Her breath hitched in her throat for a moment; it
could be something dangerous. But then it skidded into view for
a fraction of a second. It was a silly little rabbit! Porcelain
chuckled, shaking her head. What was a rabbit doing in a wheat
field. But as she looked again, it seemed to be keeping pace
with her. Cocking her head, she raised an eyebrow and smiled,
before taking off at a sprint once more.
The rabbit leaped and bound desperately trying to keep pace with
her, and the girl giggled. She had not only bested her pesky
family, but the mischievous rabbit as well. But maybe not.
Looking back, she noticed the rabbit gaining ground, now hopping
openly along the road. It raced ahead of her, and she was
surprised to see the highway; she didn't know she had come so
far. It dashed across the highway, and she followed it blindly,
only to halt in shock at the impossibly loud honk of a truck's
horn. Freezing like a deer in headlights, she held her gaze with
the rabbit right up until the truck slammed into her full force
and pulled her under it's full weight.

Two perfect Queens, each unique in their own way. Two different
little girls trapped in a fate worse than death. Oh how will
their families react? One will celebrate the passing on of the
slave. The other will frantically worry about the fate of the
little doll. Two families oh so very far apart yet so ironically
connected. Neither family met the other, neither even knowing
the existence of the other. Let's watch the two dreamers dream
of a place so beautiful that none but themselves may enter.
"Red" a voice calls out to the Queen trying wake her from
slumber. The voice was soft and seductive trying to seduce Red
into becoming what she was meant for. To rule a world of her own
creation, the voice was that of the Brown Rabbit. Like Red this
poor little rabbit was now caught up in the tangle of fate. The
Brown rabbit was to be Red's guide and to lead her as she went
on her way. No other but Red can hear to soft whispers of the
Brown Rabbit
"Porcelain, I'm so sorry I didn't mean for this to happen" The
concerned voice of the White Rabbit reaches Porcelain's
unconsciousness. The White Rabbit truly felt bad for what it had
done to this girl. So it decided then and there that it would do
whatever it would take to make it up to the girl. The White
Rabbit gently nudges against Porcelain trying to bring her
around. "Hello Porcelain?" the questioning voice speaks again to
Porcelain. As with The Brown Rabbit only Porcelain was able to
speak to The White Rabbit.

“Red......” Whether it was a question, the voice had no idea. It
didn't feel like a question, so maybe it was a plea. A sleeping
child, her imagination running wild, strong enough to create
such a place where it would be able to become something. A
thought, yet to be thought. Forever had it waited for this girl.
This weak child to come and dream her up into a place of
such....wonder. That was the word. Wonder. A beautiful noun that
rolled off the tongue. In her ear, the words echoed. “Create me
as you will, Red. I will forever be in your debt if you would so
kindly think of me. Give me a home within your mind.” The voice
waited for a heart, for a body, for life which all could be
given by this single child -tucked away in a hospital bed- with
one thought.

A quiet, almost inaudible moan drifts from Porcelain's lips as
she starts to stir, but she keeps her eyes firmly shut until the
sensation of spinning goes away. And then she remembers where
she is, what happened. Her eyes flew open and she sat up
quickly, looking around for the truck, and maybe an
ambulance...? Some of the details were fuzzy around the edges,
and she realized she definitely had no idea where she was upon
taking a look around. But there had been a voice, she knew. She
looked around once more and noticed a strange, gangly man with
gravity-defying hair, and a tall, skinny top hat, and a
mismatched suit that looked like it had taken various pieces
from different suits. Funny, she mused. Was he homeless?
"Hello," she said with a sweet smile. "Who might you be? And
thank you for saving me, but where have we gone?" Her big grey
eyes blinked up at him, almost too full of trust and caring. But
she could feel he was good. Standing, albeit feeling a little
rusty, she recalled the reason she had run into the street.
"Where's the white rabbit? Is he okay?" And then her brain
registered where they were. "There's... There's nothing here,"
she muttered quietly, disbelieving. It was literally empty
space. Looking back toward the man, reassuring that he was still
there, she gave him a worried look. "Why can't I see anything
around me except you?" Were her injuries worse than she
imagined? Was she partly blind? Or maybe, crazy? Sighing, she
placed a hand on her forehead, her eyebrows still knitted in a
stressed expression.
Her mind struggled to understand, when it was triggered by a
faint memory, a flash of white fur... The rabbit! Porcelain
spun, looking in vain for the small furry friend. Turning back
to the man, she asked worriedly, "Where's the rabbit? I saw him
just before the accident, where is he? Is he safe? He didn't get
hurt, did he?"

"The rabbit is safe dear one. I want you to imagine the face
behind this force. I have to say it is rather dashing if i say
so myself..... I wait........... I did." Laughs a bit to himself
and returns back to normal " I want to help you, but I can't
until you can see me. I know this is going to be hard to
understand, but close your eyes, count to ten, and just remember
I am not a hen." Another snort comes with a burst of laughter. "
Sorry, I haven't had my tea today so I am feeling a little 'mad'
not the angry kind either. "

Porcelain's lips parted, a retort to the strange request on the
tip of her tongue. He was already there! But it never came. She
looked closer, her mind trying to see him. He seemed to fade in
and out. Perhaps he wasn't there. Letting the retort escape in a
breath of air, she closed her eyes and pictured him the best she
could.
She could still see the mismatched suit, and the dark hair that
seemed to go in every direction, curling out from under the hat.
He had skin not quite as pale as hers, and eyes that couldn't
seem to choose whether they wanted to be blue or green. His lips
were in a funny smirk, as if he knew something she did not. As
she kept her eyes closed, focusing almost to the point that her
head sort of hurt, she could swear she saw blood begin flowing
through his veins. He even winked! Surely he was real now?
Eagerly, she opened her eyes, expecting to see him. She
desperately wanted a friend. That would be something very
comforting. Friends were nothing new, of course, but maybe this
one would be a real friend. Who would hear her, and actually
listen. Who wouldn't pat her on the head with a dismissive,
"Silly little girl." And, as she looked around for him, that's
all she hoped for.
