He could feel the wind racing around him, as Leon bent over in
the saddle. Smiling, he watched Lakota pull away from him, damn
her horse was fast. Flicking the reins he spurred his
thourobred. He was only able to see her diss appear around each
corner, as he turned them. Shaking his head he laughed hearing
her call to him. Only would a woman be able to make a man feel
like this. She was defiantly changing him, he thought to
himself. Lakota Skye was turning Leon Slater from a stiff
businessman back into the fun loving boy he had been. Why would
his father think, frowning he sighed and brought his horse to a
walk as he came up to where Lakota waited in front of her home.
Leon knew what his father would think, he would tell him to quit
acting like a boy, and more like the man he should be.
Coming up next to Lakota he smiled, and patted his horses neck,
"Yes Miss Skye, you won." He replied his face red, and stinging
from the cool air. Sliding from his saddle he moved to Lakotas
side and helped her down. Walking up to her door he sighed and
frowned when she invited him in, "I would love to, Miss Skye,
but I'm afraid I must decline." He replied and took her hands,
"I have to leave early for a trip to the state capital. I'm
going to try and get so-..." Seeing the look on her face, he
laughed and smiled, "Right.. Boring, I understand."
Leon hesitated as he looked at her, then finally he stepped
forward. Touching her cheek lightly, he stepped forward, and
looked down at her. "If it's alright... I would like to try that
kiss again..." He whispered staring into her eyes, his fingers
       lightly stroking her cheek.

Glancing at her house, her eyes caught a shadow, but then she
realized that Hail was moving slightly as he watched her. She
knew that Hail was not a fan of Leon or even his mare. She was
surprised that Hail was moving toward the thoroughbred, but he
just stood there, swishing his tail back and forth. Turning her
attention back to Leon as she politely asked him if he wanted to
attend her inside, he declined. She tilted her head as she
looked up at him, pressing her lips together as she glanced at
him. Of course it would be a business thing..."Such a busy man."
She gave a soft giggle as he stepped forward, releasing one of
her hands to cup her cheek and tilting her head up to look him
in the eyes. The moonlight was casting a soft glow to the irises
and she felt herself blush as well as bite onto her lip as she
looked up at him. Her stomach began to tighten and knot up as he
had leaned closer to her, tracing his thumb over her cheek,
asking if he could have another try at the kiss.
She slowly nodded her head, releasing his hand from the one that
he held and rested it on his upper side, pulling herself closer
as she pulled herself up on her tiptoes. She wanted to see if
she could feel that kiss, the excitement, the feeling of being
alive in the kiss. She leaned into his lips, pressing her lips
upon his own, and let him return the kiss however he wanted to.
Her heart thudded in her chest and she was surprised he didn't
rest his hand on her chest to keep her heart from popping him in
the face. There was a sweetness in the kiss, something secure
about the kiss. Nothing dangerous came into her mind. She wasn't
worried about there being someone coming into the house and
seeing them cause he was a businessman and she was a
marshall...It wasn't a marshall and an outlaw with their lips
       embraced no...
This was her promise to him...
Now if only he pulled her closer...showing that there could be
more passion into the sweet embrace...

Her eyes sparkled, seemingly catching the light from the stars
and moon, and holding it in their bright blue depths. She was
beautiful, her eyes captivating, and her demeanor, oddly
contagious. She made him feel relaxed, at ease, like he could
just talk to her. However, this was not a time to talk. No, this
was a time to make up for that botched kiss on Monday, this was
a moment to allow her to truly see his human side, not his
business side. After all, it would make their relationship that
much better, because, weren't all good relationships made of
       mutual interest?
Leaning down, he pulled her up gently, his lips pressing to
hers. For someone so tough, and string, her skin was so very
soft and smooth, and her lips were no exception. There was a
spark there, he felt, as they kissed, while is fingers held ber
cheek, and his other arm sent around her waist. Pulling her
against him, he kissed deeper, daring to let his tongue caress
hers. When he did not feel her pull away, he continued, just
kissing her. However, all good things must come to an end, and
he pulled away. An almost dreamlike smile on his face, "Uh...
Goodnight, Miss Skye... I'll, uh... Try and see you tomorrow...
       For lunch maybe..."
Then he was leaving, swining into his saddle without a hitch.
Turning he smiled, and blew a kiss to her before spurring his
horse and riding off. This had been the perfect evening, nothing
had gone overly wrong, and he had managed to fix the kiss.
Smiling all the way home, he went to sleep with the taste of her
       lips on his.

Lakota felt his lips come upon hers as well as the tighten of
his arms around her waist, pulling her closer. He wanted to be
closer to her. She smiled within the kiss, running her fingers
up from around his side to his chest and up to the back of his
neck and into his hair. His skin underneath her fingertips from
what she could feel was soft and into his hair, oh it was so
soft. She leaned into him, letting him kiss her with the promise
that he wasn't going to leave. This was what she needed right?
She couldn't have the wild life where she wasn't sure when and
if he was going to be back. She wanted schedule and being able
to rely on him. Feeling his tongue caress against her lips,
coaxing them open, she gladly let him in, letting him taste her
sweetly in the kiss. This man was charming, and he was finally
letting his vulnerable side show to her...letting her see him--
He pulled away, almost a dreamlike look on his face. She smiled
at him touching her fingers to her lips as she looked up at him,
seeing as he stepped back with a smile on his face. A soft
giggle escaped her lips as he started to stutter before slipping
away and heading toward his horse. She nodded her head. "Lunch
tomorrow, for sure." She said softly, looking at him as he
walked away and climb upon his horse without fail. He
practically leaped upon the horse as if he was flying. She
touched her chest, noticing that her heart wasn't racing as fast
as it would be with Derek...She glanced at Hail and he shook his
head and snorted before heading to the back of the house. She
rolled her eyes at her friend. Maybe she would beat him to the
back. She smiled to herself and walked inside of the house and
started to head to the back before she noticed it.
       A shadow.

At first, Derek didn't think anything about it, perhaps there
had been some sort of dance or town get together. That would
explain the dress, and this man with her, probably some poor sap
that thought by escorting her home, he might get lucky. It made
Derek want to laugh, that was how he first met Lakota, with the
same plan. She had actually punched him, right in the nose, god
that had hurt, and started a very long courtship for the foolish
Irish boy. It had so been worth it, that had been the happiest
time of his life, a time of joyful, sometimes argumentative
bliss. Smiling, he moved and winced as he leaned on the wall, he
couldn't wait to see her shoot this man down.
What happened next however made him push away from the wall. He
felt shaky, his legs trembling, his stomach and head and heart
suddenly hurt. The woman he loved was standing out there kissing
another man. He felt like there was a bullet was slowly boring
through his chest. He couldn't breath, his anger and hurt was
overwhelming his mind. Her hand was in his hair... something she
had done for him so many times, he loved when she did that.
And just as quickly as it started, the kiss was over and the man
leaving. He could see the smile, and blush on her face, and he
wanted to scream. Moving to the main room, the door opened and
she walked in. He stood near the shadows, his body trembling. He
tried to speak, and a choked cry came out, he was shattering.
Staring at her, he felt sick, and shook his head, then something
on the table caught his eye. Looking at the object he saw it was
the box that held the ring he had bought for her.
He laughed, a sad, angry, devastated sound, he was losing her.
He was an outlaw, she was the Marshall, it had to end. Looking
back at Lakota, he stepped forward. "I'm turning myself in." He
whispered, when he wanted to scream, to yell and curse at her,
       but it wasn't the time.

The shadow had moved, and she already knew who it was by the way
that he moved. Derek. What was he doing here? She thought he
abandoned her. Looking at him, her breath was taken. The look
that he had on his face was anger, and mostly because of her.
Biting her lip, the blush faded from her face and she leaned
against the door, closing it behind her as he held the box that
had the ring that he had bought for her in. She looked at him,
stunned by his presence but she didn't know what to do with
herself. It was clear that he had seen the kiss that her and
Leon shared. She looked at him, tears filling her eyes. "I
thought you had abandoned me again..." She said softly, but she
had no excuse. She should have told him about the promise that
she had made to Leon the day that he walked into her house. Her
eyes watched him carefully, but the words that came out of his
mouth was something that was both heartbreaking and good at the
same time. He needed to be cleared of his charges, but then she
knew that he would be sent straight to prison for the rest of
his life because the courts wouldn't believe him now. Not after
all this time. She looked at him, her lip trembling. "Derek..."
"They'll kill you...they always take out the outlaws. They don't
send you to federal prison. They kill you!" She said, looking at
him, pleading. "I'm not letting you do that because since I'm
the marshal of the town, I have to be the witness of your death.
I'm not going to do it." She shook her head. "And if they found
out about us, everything would be ruined. Everything I worked
for, everything you have worked for would be ruined." She shook
her head. "I'm not letting you do it." She stepped closer to
him, unsure if he was actually going to let her get close to
him. He probably wouldn't want to touch her anymore. Not after
       what he had to witness...
"That was Leon Slater...I'm promised to him..." She said softly.
"It happened a couple of months ago, when I thought you had
completely forgotten about me, Derek. I thought you had just
decided to run away and leave me and Duke here. What else was I
supposed to do?!" She practically screamed. "Then you came back
and it twisted my whole world around...and that first night...it
was reliving in the past. Before we had to worry about all of
the outlaw crap where all we had to do was be back by a certain
time." She looked at him. "Then you didn't come the night you
promised. It felt as if you weren't even here again. I felt numb
and useless like I always did when you were gone." She said,
tears were now strolling down her face.
"I didn't mean for this to happen....I didn't expect you to come
back, but now that you did...I just don't know what to do, I'm
living two separate worlds..." She said softly. Her body was
trembling and she wasn't sure if she was going to collapse or
not. She wanted to feel his arms around her, but she doubted
that he would never touch her...
       Ever. Again.

Shaking with anger, he stared at her, that kiss, that had been
more than just a kiss. She had enjoyed it, she had returned it,
Derek had watched the entire affair and felt sick to his
stomach. She had been all he lived for, the only thing that kept
him going. If he didn't have her, there was nothing left for him
to fight for. When she denied his desire to surrender to the
law, he narrowed his eyes. He couldn't even think straight, her
words meaning nothing, aside from raising his anger. He shook
his head, "No. I am turning myself in." He said again. "You are
all that kept me alive out there. Your memory... All the time we
spent together. I never went to another woman!" He shouted,
feeling angry tears on his face. "I never tried to find anyone
else!" He had to reach out and grab the wall to steady himself.
Hearing a noise, he looked and saw Duke sitting in a corner,
head low, and tail between his legs watching them. Turning back
to Lakota he felt his back spasm, and he swayed.
She was right, he had left her, and he was more than certain she
was hurting. He stared into her eyes, still feeling hurt,
watching her step closer. He didn't move away but did hold his
hand up. "Stop... Please..." He whispered not wanting her any
closer. But he did, god he wanted to hold her, biting his lip he
heard her explain, and he was angry all over again. Turning
away, he held the back of the couch and swallowed then looked
back. "I was... I was on my way... I had to hide after we hit
that train... Good kid caught a shotgun blast... He was just
trying to get money to but his parents a home..." Shaking his
head he looked into her eyes and stepped closer. His head was
swimming, "I was riding... In the dark... Trying to get here..
To you. I rode over a river bed... My horse went down... When I
woke up, it was the next day, my horse was dead." Seeing her
look he shook his head. "Thor is in the next town over... At the
livery... I forgot to tell you... I didn't want anything to
       happen to him..."
Stepping closer he gently took her hand, then stared crying, as
angry as he was he loved her. "I love you... I love you and
don't want to lose you Lakota." He sobbed and hung his head.
"I'm angry... I'm so angry... But I love you..." Looking up at
her he tried to smile, "I'll change for you. I promise. Ill
change... Ill go out and disband that gang... I'll mke them
leave here." He cried. Stepping back he stared at her. He wanted
to kiss her but couldn't, not after what he just witnessed.

"I'm not going to watch you die! That would be worse than the
first time you left me!" She screamed. This man was insane if he
thought that she was even considering the fact that he was going
to turn himself in. Was he crazy? Was he not thinking about her
feelings at all? She looked at him, the tears building up in her
eyes as she stepped closer to him, in which he lifted his hand
and told her to stop. She didn't know what to do. She wanted to
wrap her arms around him, feel his muscles embrace her as he
hugged her back, but he wouldn't let her. Not after what he had
just seen. He looked heart broken and he seemed as if he
couldn't breathe, but still he lashed out at her with words. The
words cut deeper than a bullet being shot into her heart. Her
eyes looked into his and she felt taken aback. She stepped away,
and decided not to step closer to him anymore.
She pulled away and looked at him, the tears running down her
face. She didn't know what else to say. His words saying that he
hadn't tried to get with another woman both relieved her heart
and made her feel even more guilty. What else was she supposed
to come back with that? She turned her head. "Fine. I was weak
and thought that you weren't coming back. You've been gone for
five years, Derek. Five!" She said lifting her eyes to his.
"Leon came around and was nice to me and didn't even try to
pressure me into a relationship! Cause he knew I was broken."
She looked to the side and turned away from him.
He now began to speak and say that he was going to change,
disband the gang. She shook her head. "Then they would know that
you were even considering about ratting them out and turning
yourself in. They would kill you too." She hissed. "I'm not
going to let you die." She said, looking down at the ground. She
felt the coolness of the room surround her. Duke was watching
them seeing them fight like the old days. He walked toward the
edge of the kitchen and walked out of his door that she had
built for him a year or so back. "I don't know what to tell you,
Derek. Besides the fact that you aren't turning yourself in."
She turned to face him then walked by him, her shoulder brushing
his for a moment as she headed toward the door. "Hail is still
out and I need to settle him in the stalls before he decides to
run off." She said, wiping her tears silently as she walked.
She left him in the dark of the house, and Hail was standing
there chewing on the grass in her back yard before she grabbed a
hold of his reins and walked him to the stables and took off all
of his jewelry type saddle and bridle. He nudged his muzzle
against her face, as if trying to wipe the rivers of tears that
were coming down her face. She leaned into him, kissing the side
of his face before she wrapped her arms around him and held onto
him tightly while her legs felt as if they were going to give
       out...
       Her heart was broken again.
       Was that even possible?

Leaning more on the wall after she had let go of his hand he
listene to her more. She was promised to another, he had no
reason to go on. Why wouldn't she just let him go, she said it
would destroy her. But he didn't know, he just didn't know
anymore. The way she was talking about him, the way she had
looked after their kiss. He just wanted her to stop, not to keep
bringing this Leon guy up, every mention only made him angrier.
Though he didn't know if it was towards her, or Leon, or
himself. No it was at himself, and at Leon, not Lakota, none of
this was her fault. Everything rested on Derek, the death, when
he ran, five years he never came looking for her. He had
convinced himself it was for her sake, but it was for his own,
because he knew. One night of being with Lakota, and he was
willing to end it all, to live in hiding, for her. Oh how he
wanted to just be hers, to hold her and never let go, to just
       stay with her.
Feeling her shoulder brush his, he reached out and touched her
arm, but his fingers slipped off as she kept walking. No turning
himself in, no disbanding the gang, what was he to do. Then he
grew angry again, she had called herself weak, that was pure
bullshit. She was strong, stronger than anyone he had ever met,
"Lakota." He said and looked but she was already outside. With a
sigh he owned against the wall and slid to the ground. "Derek...
Ya damned fuckin' fool, why did ya come back?" He snorted, "Shes
the only one, the only woman ya ever loved." Hanging his head,
he set it in his hands.
Standing he went out and found Lakota in the stable. Stepping
close, she moved away, so he followed only to have her leave him
again. Sighing he finally caught her arm and looked at her,
"Please... Tell me what to do..." He begged softly, staring at
her, small and frightened, he realized he was cowering to her.
She didn't scare him though. Losing her scared him
Losing the woman he loved, scared Derek to death.

Lakota held onto Hail for dear life. Her knees were buckling and
the horse seemed to brace himself for all of her weight.
Although she was not that heavy, he looked at her in worry. The
horse continued to rub his muzzle against her back, trying to
calm her as the tears were pouring down her face. She wasn't

took in a deep breath, looking at the man behind her lids. Leon
was sweet, but never could he match up to Derek with her heart.
Her heart could never be Leon's. Maybe a part...friendship part,
but never could she give her loving self to him...She pressed
her lips together as she soon pulled away from Hail when she
heard the stable door open. Hail seemed to relax when he saw
Derek and Lakota kept her face turned away from him.
It was her fault that all of this happened.
She was living in two separate words. Most of which people
wanted her to be the Marshal, married to the Railroad owner, but
who she actually was a girl who had fallen in love with a bad
boy outlaw, who gave her nights of her life, and gave her the
thrill that no one else could ever come close to. She bit her
lip slightly as she soon heard his voice. She could feel the
warmth of his hand come close to her skin and she pulled away
but soon he grabbed her arm, turning her to look at him. Her
tear filled and makeup smeared eyes looked up at the man who had
given her life. He was begging her, and never had she seen this
part of him unless she was severely mad at him for something.
They used to bicker and fight all of the time, but at the end of
the day and the beginning of the night, it was perfect. They
were in love. They were opposites that fit each other's cracks
perfectly. How could she run away from that? Why couldn't she
just gain all that she had learned and run away with him, become
an outlaw couple...? Her eyes searched his as she stepped closer
to him, she bit her lip.
She knew that this was not right. She knew that she should have
stopped but she couldn't help it. She was succumbing to her
senses, her desires, her feelings, and rebelling against her
mind who said that it would be better to tell him to go away.
She pulled away from his hold and wrapped her arms around his
neck, crashing her lips against his and bowing her body against
his. She needed this kiss, to feel not so weak anymore. She was
not going to bend and with him by her side, she wouldn't. She
held onto him tighter, even if he tried to fight her. She
wouldn't let him go. She couldn't. Fresh tears flowed down her
face as she kissed him, holding the back of his neck. "I love
you...so much.." She whispered between kisses as she held onto
       him tightly..
