As he tried to explain, the words fell oddly on Detia's
judgmental ears. It would seem he was some kind of soul-slave
owner, or something of the sort. Freaky. Shaking her head, Detia
just smiled and soaked in the scenery. She would not stop his
conquest, probably wouldn't even take part in it. But watching
could be fun. As they walked, the sun began to rise in the
distance, and a delicious shiver ran down the demon's spine as
she tipped her face toward the light. A gauzy glow danced on her
skin as the sun rose took over the horizon. It didn't warm the
surface of the earth, as winds were still bitterly cold and able
to keep heat at bay, so the snow remained, twinkling defiantly
in the sunshine. On a whim, and partly to test his personality,
Detia bent and in seconds stood and whipped a snowball at
Ducard. It would've definitely hit a human, but it soared just
past his backbone and into his cape. Glaring indignantly at the
wet spot on his cape, Detia rolled her eyes and turned back
around, while keeping an eye on Ducard every once in a while.

It had been a very long time since anyone had thrown a snowball
at Ducard. Even on the occasions that he'd arrived in Winter to
a plane of existence, most of the inhabitants were preoccupied.
Everyone was too busy buying bread, or going to work, or running
in fear, or shovelling their driveway, or being consumed by the
undead to have a snowball fight with him. Zombies really weren't
interested in things that weren't flesh, so none of them had
thrown an errant sphere of frozen water at anyone. He reached
his hand down to retrieve some snow, but his skeletal structure
didn't allow it to stay in his hand. Ducard sighed, and thought
no more on that matter.
Instead, he turned his attention to the way his new acquaintance
had responded to his words. A shake of the head? Hmm. Ducard
clacked his teeth. "Perhaps I was being a dash labyrinthine.
What I mean for you to understand, if you do not already, is
that I am a Necromancer of the highest caliber. Admittedly, I've
dabbled in other arts; Sangromancy, Cryomancy and Arachnomancy
more than, say, Pyromancy or Myomancy. Perhaps a demonstration?"
Ducard's eye-sockets glowed a faint blue as a perfect orb of
snow rose in front of the pair on the path and arced through the
air to end its existence on the fire demon's shoulder. He said
nothing more and turned his attention to the approaching castle.
'Twas a pity it was Winter. Normally Ducard had an army of
undead animals at his command by this point.

Detia covered a smile with her hand as she watched the frozen
powder slip through Ducard's fingers. After a few snickers were
silenced by a snowball to her shoulder, Detia patted the
creature on his own skeletal shoulder. "I really don't mean to
laugh, but that was adorably hilarious." Holding up her hand in
his face to prevent an interruption, she explained. "I mean,
here you are, marching around with your deep, scary voice,
collecting people or whatever you wanna call it... And.. And you
can't even pick up a snowball! Hee.." She made an effort to
disguise a small giggle as a cough, before they continued their
journey, until he proposed a demonstration.
"Well..." Swiveling on her hips slightly to look for any unknown
spies, she only found a barren, snowy valley, save for a few
disgruntled looking herd animals. Giving a particularly upset
and battered looking sheep a sympathetic look, she turned back.
Detia shrugged in agreement. "Sure. As long as I don't have to
play the test dummy." She folded her pale arms together under
her chest, waiting patiently to see what exactly he would be
doing.

Ducard had been called many things in many languages. Most of
them translated to 'monster', 'reaper', 'demon', or something of
the sort. Adorable wasn't on that long list even once. He had
grown rather fond of his titles; names such as 'Pain-King', 'The
Walking End', and 'Life-Bane'. He wasn't sure how he felt about
being called adorable, especially by a demon. Was he slipping?
Had his eons of time apart from sentient beings weakened him?
No, the people of this world would fear him just as their
predecessors did. Nay, they would fear him more.
Ducard clacked his teeth. "We grow close to our destination,
demon. A more expected appearance, perhaps?" Sinew stretched
over his bones, muscle creeped across his body, followed closely
by pale, white skin. Ducard blinked, and eyes of a royal purple
appeared as their lids opened. Shadows shot to cover his body,
solidifying into robes of original darkness. His scythe vanished
into his shadow, and his cape shifted into a cloak. Black hair
sprouted from his scalp, marred only by a single streak of
silver off to the left. Stubble grew from his face, offering the
appearance of a traveler. "Entering the castle as but a skeleton
would have much the same effect as you entering as a true flame
demon. Panic at this stage would be irksome. Everything at its
appropriate time."
