Blades in the dark... A story of two rising assassins...
By: Jeremy Date: July 24, 2012, 3:53 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
The city was dark, just the lights from street lamps, and the
occasional candle in a window, or well lit tavern casting pale
yellow light into the streets. It was this night, that the
apprentice was to become full fledged, his first job on his own,
he could still hear, the whispering voice of his master standing
behind him as he left, " You pass, you become an assassin, and
your training continues... Fail. Don't come back." That was the
way of his master, always, cold and pushing everyone away.
So as the apprentice, barely even fifteen began his journey
through the city, stayng in the shadows, and hiding on the
rooftops, he felt he was ready. He had traveled this route
dozens of times, practicing, preparing, getting ready for the
night when there would be no moon, and now as h moved, a heavy
marine layer from the nearby bay, rolled in, blocking out the
stars. It was the perfect night.
Hoiwever, as the young Kylar Gyre moved, he had no idea what
fate had in store for him.

"We don’t exist. Never have and never will. That is to the
normal population. To you however we seem very real."
A motto uttered by possibly the deadliest assassin known to the
occupation, and also the trainer of Saraya Ramos, just an
ordinary girl with a strangely huge desire to bring to others
what they deserved. If that was death, so be it. A soft smile
played across Saraya's lips, her mouth the only distinguishable
part of her face in the deep shadow of her hood as she sauntered
through the streets many would never dream of travelling down.
It was finally the day where she would become recognised within
the order as a true Assassin, able to stand alone and complete
contracts without remorse, and today she had found her target. A
legitimate Assassin who had turned their back upon the order,
and by removing them from this earth would truly show her
dedication to her trainer, the only person in her life that she
       wanted to please.
Determined, The young woman swept through the ever growing crowd
as she entered the town's center. Keeping sharp, well-trained
eyes on the Assassin who obviously wanted to vanish into the
crowd, she ducked effortlessly around people, the more she
thought about getting the job done, the more Saraya began to
doubt her abilities, questioning whether to turn back but that
would mean her being a failure, and she never wanted that title
on her head. Lost in her thoughts, she suddenly lost sight of
the Assassin who must have noticed her presence."Damn," she
growled to herself, her eyes darting around. There were too many
people, and it was only one Assassin.
The young woman darted forward, crouched and weaving in and out
of the legs of the townsfolk while occasionally popping her head
       up to look around.
Was that--? No, too broad at the shoulder.
       That? No, wrong color.
On the roof, her hazel pools fell upon the Assassin, who clearly
seemed to be up for a chase. Saraya scampered up the side of the
building, swinging herself gracefully over the edge and up onto
the roof. She straightened herself sharply and sprinted towards
the Assassin while being wary enough to keep a safe distance,
knowing they would be ready to defend. Saraya followed after the
Assassin who vanished over the edge of the building. She snagged
a window ledge and slung herself over the edge of the building,
dashing across the roof and leaping towards the next bit of
architecture. Her fingers managed to find handholds from
training driven into her since the age of 12, being only 15 at
this day. She climbed as effortlessly as a squirrel in a tree,
eventually leaping from the roof as the Assassin made a silly
mistake, her blade quickly un-sheathed before she passed her
target, rolling when she made contact with the ground and
quickly peered over her shoulder, watching as the Assassin's
lifeless body hit the concrete. Her first kill.
Rising to her feet, Saraya turned on her heels as she sheathed
the blade, coming to a stop almost instantly when she noticed a
mysterious young man standing opposite, her eyes widening at the
thought of him seeing what she had just done. The only thing on
her mind now was returning to the training grounds to report her
completion of the contract, but now the mans face was stuck in
her mind, what would she do if her trainer found out about her
       being seen?

He could see the mark, it was moving thrugh a crowd, he had
forgotten there was some sort of celebration to night! Grumbling
he stayed in the shadows on the roof, shadowing the mark as he
moved through the crowd. This would be so easy, the assassin
thought, as he watched the man move towards an alley. He would
step in there, and he would die with a burning throwing dagger
in his heart. Smiling to himself, he watched and followed,
however he was suddenly running. "What? There is no way he sa-"
THen he saw the figure in the crowd pursuing the man, "Oh you
have to be jesting..." He whispered, and took off along the
rooftops, watching and grinning as the man reached his wn level.
This would be excellent, that other assassin had just chased the
mark right to him, the boy made a note to thank that assassin
later. Sprinting across the clay tiled roofs, he slipped, and
had to catch his balance before continuing, grabing the edge of
a higher roof he vaulted up, and rolled onto it and stood. What
he saw as he stood made him freeze, the other assassin was just
opposite of him, narrowing his eyes, he stood there, as the mark
       ran.
"Get out of here, that is my contract." He growled, before
turning and taking off after the fleeing mark. If that other
assassin followed, the apprentice would be livid.

"Come on, Come on" she growled, her feet effortlessly gliding
across the roof in her pursuit of the target, the chance to put
her name in the Assassin's books. All Saraya wanted to do was
make her trainer proud, to know that the three years he had
devoted to her were worth it and he would always know of his
creation as her name would eventually be known throughout the
continents. Breaking into a sprint, fresh gusts of air filled
Saraya's lungs as she began to catch up to the target, the hood
of her coat barely covering her face as the wind fought to blow
it down and reveal her face, but she knew that would be the end
of her, and she'd barely begun her journey. Her eyes became
drawn to the west side of the building, the sound of movement
filling her ears, her body slowly coming to a halt as the sounds
were soon met with someone climbing up. It was obvious. They
       were an Assassin too.
As the two stood in silence watching one another, it soon dawned
on Saraya that the target was getting away, an evil smirk
playing across her lips as the Assassin ordered her to leave the
contract. The two were chasing the same person, fighting for the
kill...was he doing this to be initiated too? Saraya quickly
shook her head, knowing that she couldn't ask questions now, and
she gave her fellow Assassin a wave, clearly playing with him
before sprinting once more, realizing that it was a race as the
two ran alongside eachother. "We'll see who's contract it is
after they're dead" she chuckled, quickly diverting her path as
she dove from the rooftop less than a second after the contract
had done the same. Hitting the ground below, Saraya straightened
up being the contract as her blade retracted from their spine,
allowing the body to fall to the ground like a ragdoll and she
turned on her heels, wondering whether the other Assassin had
       followed.

Kylar had gotten a head start on the other assassin, and he had
even cut off the mark, pulling ahead of him. This was going to
be so easy, he would kill the target, get paid, and become a
full fledged assassin. That other assassin had no clue what she
was going against, he was the apprentice of a shadow walker, and
he planned on being one of the best. Sliding on a rooftop, he
turned and threw a dagger at the mark, his aim perfect, it would
hit the man eight in the eye. However before the blade struck he
saw the man go rigid and then slump forward, after his dagger
hit and the man feel to the ground he saw the female assassin,
       urn and walk away.
Jumping from the roof he stated and shook his head, "No, no,
no." He whispered then started following her, his hands shaking.
"Do you know what you've done!" He shouted, as he glared at her,
pulling off his hood and masked, he revealed his blood gair and
green , and the fact he was just a teenager. Kylar knew what
would happen when he went back to where his master trained him.
Looking at her he shook his head, "You... Have no clue."

This was it. The thought of success began to fill Saraya's mind
as she dove from the rooftop, ready to take out her target
before the other Assassin got the kill and recognition. She was
determined to become a fully fledged Assassin, without care for
the consequences that would be faced by the other Assassin when
they would return to their grounds with news of failure.
Retracting her blade from the target, an evil smirk returned to
her lips as Saraya sheathed the blade and turned around,
noticing that she had been followed to the ground by her fellow
pursuor. Idly waving at the young Assassin, Saraya tilted her
head as she saw the expression of pure anger upon his face, a
soft sigh passing her lips as she moved past the body to stand
just a few feet away from him.
"Oh come now, somebody had to win. Don't be upset" she
whispered, her sweet voice echoing through the alleyways, and
even though it was obvious by her body that Saraya was only a
young teenager, her mind and words seemed like that of a much
older woman, like she had been doing the job for her whole life.
He was clearly angry about her killing the target, making her
think about him being an apprentice like her, the smile
dissapearing from her lips the more she watched him, especially
as he revealed his face, something that should never be done.
"Yes! I do know what I've done! I've just completed my training
and saved my life!" she growled after hearing his sharp tone
against her eardrums, how dare he talk to her in such a manner.
Turning on her heels, Saraya began to walk away, hearing the
Assassins footsteps following closely behind her, it looked like
he wasn't finished talking to her yet. His voice seemed to
become more and more upsetting, the anger drowning out when he
tried to make her understand what it meant to him. "You...You're
training too, aren't you?" she asked, peering over her shoulder,
suddenly becoming aware of his reasons without him needing to
       tell her.

He didn't care about her life, what his master would do to him
was worse than death, he would brutally torture and beat his
apprentice for failing, it was what the ShadowWalker did.
Swallowing he stared at hhher, his hands shaking, "You... " When
she asked if he was training he nodded, "This was to be my final
test.. and I failed..." He replied, he was scared for the first
time, he realized. He was terrified of facing the man that
trained him. Finally he nodded, and bowed, "Congratulations, on
becoming an assassin...." He whispered softly, as he
       straightened, "You deserve it..."
Turning away he started walking, he had to face the punishment.
Pausing he gave her a smile, as he turned back to her. "I hope
you go far..." He stated, his voice sad, and slightly timid. He
knew that once he reached the warehouse, he would wish he was
dead. Perhaps if he killed her, then he could say he got the
mark, and a rival. But he knew that his master would know she
       killed it. He always knew.

Saraya suddenly found herself feeling sorry for the apprentice,
sympathetic about the fact he couldn't kill the target before
her and now he had to face his trainer. She knew that it was
exactly what he was going to do, because it was how her journey
would have ended if she had failed her task, and due to the fact
she knew what pain he would have to endure, it made her feel
guilty about it She had treated it all like a game, like it
would not have a consequence, and now she was learning what her
actions had caused. "This was my final test also...I guess this
means we are both being trained by rival orders..." she spoke
softly, all happiness and sarcasm drained from her voice as she
looked at his face, his eyes filled with fear. The young man
only looked like a teenager, possibly the same age as Saraya,
and all she could do was walk away, knowing what was to take
place in just a short time.
"I didn't know..." she shouted as the apprentice began to walk
away, a soft sigh escaping her as she grasped her hood, pulling
it down to reveal her blonde locks as they fell down her back,
her hazel orbs watching each step that was taken by the
apprentice until he was out of her view. Turning around, Saraya
wondered how her trainer would react towards her informing him
about not only the contract being completed, but also how she
met a member of the rival assassin order and did not kill him.
Stepping out of the alleyway, she looked around before weaving
her way in and out of the festival crowd, fitting herself in as
though she was just a normal being, but deep down...she wanted
to go after the apprentice and help find a way for him to avoid
       his trainers wrath.

Her words echoed in his eyes as his walked away, heading for the
punishment he knew was to come. Sighing, he pulled his hood up,
and sipped the mask back up over his nose, covering everything
but his eyes. Walking into the shadows he could only hear the
soft thud of the supple leahter boots he wore, as they connected
with the ground. Turning a corner he suddenly felt himself
pulled backwards into darkness. For several seconds that was all
he saw, then he heard, "You failed, boy... You failed the test."
The cold whispered voice was the last Kylar heard before his own
screams filled the air of the warehouse. No one would hear him,
       not where they were.
The night after his failed test, found the young aprentice
assassin sitting upon a rooftop staring down at the city below.
He was dressed in the same outfit as the previous night. Though
he kept his right eye hidden in the shadows of his hood. Each
time he took a breath he winced, and occaionally he would have
to raise his arm, causing him to cring even more, in order to
stifle a cough. This was her fault, it was that female's fault.
The one that was now an assassin, instead of him.

Saraya made her way in and out of the crowds filling the town,
suspicious gazes following her the more she moved. It was
obvious that some town's folk knew about the Assassins, but none
have been able to say that they had seen one in person, however
it seemed Saraya was gaining some unwanted attention regarding
her clothing and weapons on her body. Slowly moving into a
sprint, she could see her destination only metres away, the
thought of her trainer's reaction coming to mind when she would
tell him of her success, but the images began to fade when she
stopped outside the building, the apprentice's face filling
Saraya's mind, the fear in his eyes made her heart sink, knowing
that he was most likely being punished as she stood there, but
she knew she could not become involved with another, especially
       a rival.
The sound of her boots echoed throughout the halls as she moved
closer to her trainer who stood at the top of the main
staircase, an emotionless face meeting her gaze when she told of
the killing, but she knew that the trainer could read her body
language easily, taking hold of her arm in order to gain her
knowledge about the apprentice, a young man who the trainer
seemed to know about. As daylight dawned, Saraya stepped out
from the building, she was an Assassin, and she needed to regain
the trust of her trainer after the disappointed she had caused
to him by leaving the apprentice alive. Killing him would be the
easiest way of securing that bond once again, but something was
stopping her teachings from her setting out to find him...she
didn't want to. Sighing, Saraya made her way into the town, her
face once again covered by her hood as she scanned the area,
wondering if she would find a new target....
