The Town of Aelbe

It's a town, what the fuck else do you want?
Typical town-shit. Pubs, houses spaced out, lotsa animals and
shit.
Around mid-1300's, you know, Black Death and that shit. Town's
far enough out within Ireland that such a plague isn't something
that horrifies them too badly.

This sickness that spread was a monster with a mind all on its
own. A horror that seemed to have its own will; how far it
spread, how potent it'd be, it was like it decided all upon its
own. The bodies dropped and it loomed over them, almost laughing
at the effort they'd put into trying to keep it away only to
have found their efforts spoiled and wasted. The further this
beast plundered, the further hopes fell until they were doing
nothing but waiting, bargaining, begging to live. People would
die. Everyone was beginning to understand it. Their friends
would die, their family would die, they would die. And this
pushed people, it pushed them hard and far into the depths of
their sanities and desperation, seeking some way to escape their
finite mortality. How do you escape something that killed
anything it found while leaving no way of retreat? Such facts
drove people into depths they didn't want to go, but in primal
states as such, wouldn't you do the same?
He was a man. Next to no one would care for his disappearance.
He'd be just another upon millions, no one important, no one who
mattered. But he was just like the others, scared, horrified,
mortified, struggling and fighting to survive because he
treasured his life now. He couldn't sleep at night, couldn't
eat, chills and lack of food combined with the people dying left
and right, it was so hard to even survive...he was growing
weaker and weaker every day, and as much as he wanted to
survive, he had no means to. But he knew the others did...
Earlier in the years, no one had to worry about these things.
No one had to worry about starving, your neighbors would help
you. Sick? Neighbors were there. Cold? Neighbors were there. But
since the Plague struck, it became the case of every man for
themselves. You couldn't afford kindness anymore, not when the
Plague came...And that's how this man found himself struggling
through the bitter cold winds within the woods, stalked by the
beast of the Plague with every step he took that drained his
strength. Everyone around him was an enemy, they'd all be
infected soon if not already, and that'd risk polluting supplies
that he could use to stay alive... If they were already dead men
walking, why not speed the process, right? Reverse of more the
merrier. And since they could die, why not use that as the most
opportune moment to live? But how...how to kill them without
being questioned, without being killed in return...
This man was desperate, so desperate as to believe fairy tales
he'd heard of long ago. Tales of beasts living deep in the
depths of their forests, beasts with powers, beasts with toxins
so noxious that one bite could kill a man three times his size.
With that much poison, there'd be no telling how many people
could truly die off with a single bite alone...So he tredged
further and further until he regretted ever having the thoughts.
Nothing was worth this cold, nothing was worth this weakness.
How silly was he to have believed such nonsense. Dragons,
wyverns, witches and the like? How foolish! He'd die out here!
He didn't even know how long he'd been bloody walking...he'd
never been this far into the woodland before. Especially in this
weather. Snow crunched under his feet that had long ago gone
numb, the wind rattled the bare branches that seemed to wave
towards him amicably, almost taunting in their presence. All it
did was remind him of the Plague. It's bare, black fingers
leaving nothing but death and taking life along its way...God,
he just wanted to live!! His desperation was deepening, a puddle
turning into an ocean. His legs were too weak to even carry him
anymore...This man stumbled and fell, cold biting into his
bones, crying out the name of the beast he was so desperate to
find. "Wyvern!"
It was like a dream. His eyes were closing, his life was fading,
and all it took was that call...The beast didn't appear in any
dramatic way. It simply...formed. The snow in front of him
shifted, rising with the slender form appearing. This creature
was around the size of an average wolf found upon a hunt, its
scales glimmering like amethyst and royal dye, golden slits
gleaming within its skull where it seemed to glare accusingly.
The creature...it existed!! Not only did it exist but...it was
here! Which meant he could ask...The creature was a sight to
see, just the way the loons in the tales had described them.
Their body was lengthy, covered in scales, very sleek in the way
it moved just like garden snakes but...the rest of its makeup
was odd. Four thin, but muscled legs carried its form, and its
head...its head! It was like a minature dragon staring
face-to-face at him. And as it shook the snow from its body the
final touch upon its form revealed itself. The snow was thrown
off in a flurry of whitened dust, the appendages that had
appeared shuddering as they stretched themselves off the
wyvern's back, unfurling before setting back down while its form
slithered and walked closer, golden orbs penetrating his
half-dead gaze. All it did was watch. Didn't give any
inclanation of doing anything else, almost like it was
waiting..."Beast...I need your assistance..." More silent
waiting. "Your poisons...their strength...I beg of you, wyvern
of legends...please, lend me that strength." More waiting. The
golden orbs watching him before the creature leaned forward, the
hot puffs of breath exhaled from its nostrils hitting his face,
warming it. And then he was asleep...
Morning came and the man found himself back at his weak home, a
rolled up ball of cloth of his shirt drenched in something that
reeked of death, vile to smell and feel, yet it brought him
unbridled joy. It didn't take him long to poison all of his
neighbors. They dropped like flies, all of them but one, but he
wasn't much concerned for that one...He was more than happy the
others were gone and their supplies were his! Shame he died not
but a week after. But the only one who didn't die was holding
quite the bitter grudge for the poison he was given...
-.-.-.-.-.-
It'd been but a few years, damnable years but years nonetheless.
The people of this village were nice people. Joyous upon
celebrations and friendly to others, so long as you proved to be
safe. It was with the still rolling plauge that made attitudes a
little more sour than usual. People were a bit more skeptic, a
bit more inclined not to help, and a bit more hostile. But all
in all, it was an Irish pub, and when in doubt, drink! "Did ye'
hear about that blackguard going after the beast again?" Voices
murmured in their drunk tongue, speaking of the current
challenge spiralling through the countries. Tales of the beasts
of myth had became wide-talk, their presence having been
sabotauged throughout the years, and with no way to run any
further, they'd all become subject to the destruction that was
mankind in times of turmoil. The current and most popular tale
to have been subjugated to such mistreatment was that of the
Dragon. Your typical tale. A beast of might and proweress, one
when whom challenged would strike down those who attacked and
what did humans do when finding out the story of myth to be
true? They tried to go at it themselves, why of course!
It made her sick to continue hearing their blubbered nonsense.
The female adjusted the bindings upon her head, hair hidden
beneath flocks of white and a blackened cap upon the top. Her
gaze was downturned to the golden brew beneath her that just
reflected the same hues into her sights, the brew seeming to
find comfort in color of its own. With so much nonsense these
days, and not to mention the mortality rate was skyrocketing by
the thousands every day back in France, she'd managed to move
herself to this lovely little community. And she was still
hating every last moment of it...but, as portrayed by the other
members of this little pub, when moody, drink.
So she did.

Myths, that’s what they believed them to be for the longest,
sightings of these magnificent creatures had become just that
sightings for only the craziest to spot on the horizon of the
morning sky and then fade, like a ghost. Every night the dreamed
of most children watched the sky hoping to see the dark covered
scales of these creatures, the ones only believed to reside
within the many fairy tales told to children at night to make
them dread being naughty boys and girls. It was only believed to
be a fairytale, the dragon was not to have been a realistic
creature until that day, the day that the humans began what they
called the hunt.
It started out of nowhere and even then they had never expected
it, they chased them to the end of the lands that they had once
inhabited, slaughtering their kind reaping their blood across
the lands. The bones of the dragons littered the ground and yet
now so little remained of the kind that once was sought out
finally driven to the edge lands of England towards the main
location of the black plague was when the man showed up, a
knight, a blackguard to seek the heads of their lord their king,
even dragons had their royalty, his voice rose above the rest
and he spoke his words harsh, his words simple but the dragons
knew he meant business.
“Where is your lord?”
The voice spoke over the heads of each of the dragons to reach
the king of the dragons and his body guard, the mans dark onyx
armor gleaming in the bright of the sun and his dark eyes
gleaming to search for that of which he seemed to find quickly,
with a slight shifting of his hand the dragons parted allowing
the man through whether forcefully moved with the mans devil
magic or moved on their own simply out of respect for the man.
He stopped in front of an elder looking dragon its yellow eyes
void of emotion for all but the dragons that circled around his
massive form, yet the human showed no fear, just hatred for the
foul beast that stood before him.
“Any last words beast before I end your pathetic life?”
The man’s words filled with the hatred of the millions of humans
whose lives were shattered due to the war that started between
the humans and these creatures, these abominations. His eyes
flashed red for a brief moment before he swung the claymore
downward, the dark blade gleaming in the bright sunlight not
giving the beast time to speak its final words. None of the
dragons able to move as the man made the execution like strike
for their lords head, a sadistic smile upon the man’s face at
the final end to this war.
The earth shook violently, a crack appearing in between the
human male and the lord. A hooded figure holding the blade of
the man’s sword within the palm of his hand, blood leaking from
the wound and dropping to the ground sizzling through the earth
with each drop of the crimson liquid that touched the surface.
The human watched and waited his eyes widened in surprise and a
look of fear now littered through his eyes, his body trembled,
his grip on his own sword faltering. The words that would slip
through the hooded man’s lips were those of solstice but no
remorse.
“May your life be forfeit here in front of our lord, for your
insolence rest in peace mortal.”
He shifted his hand to the left tossing the claymore off into
the distance, he raised his own sword and tore into the man’s
flesh forcing the blood to shift into the air and become one
with the breeze. His eyes closed, the light fading from them,
his limp body tumbling to the ground, all the dragons eyes
shifting to the man that just stood before them, he just moved
forward his eyes closing and a few breaths passing through his
lips. He made his way south across the lands of Europe, working
towards his destination the free realms of this once great
nation away from the plague and away from the war. Each battle
he came to he helped push the humans back allowing the dragons
to keep their land but nothing more nothing less.
Soon the rumors began to spread, the words twisted and mangled
to the point to make the hooded man seem like a savior to the
dragons. The words each slipping through the pathetic mortals
lips, Did you hear? The dragons have a man on their side that
has been pushing armies back alone. The words spread like a
wild fire and soon the hunt began the price of his head had
risen to a point that every bounty hunter began the hunt for
this savior of the dragons. The few that managed to track the
beast down were never seen again, their corpses found torn and
mangled, or burned to a crisp and soon the world seemed to be
worried.
It had been years since the last bounty hunter that took after
his head had found him, yet now the rumors still spread about
the knights going out to destroy his own people. He sighed
lightly and ordered another drink, a simple mortal drink unable
to satisfy the dragons rather large constitution, his eyes shot
up at the table across from his comment about the black guard,
his head rose slightly allowing his golden eyes to gleam from
beneath the darkened hood, the reptilian gaze falling upon the
table and a slight growl passing through his lips. The growl was
low and a bit mumbled but enough to know what the man needed to
get across. A sigh simply passed afterwards and he ordered yet
another drink allowing his eyes to shift back to the table.
He clenched his hand tightly around the next cup, feeling the
burn deep in the scarred wound that lay across his hand from so
many years ago. He grimaced slightly at the pain sucking down
the last of his drink then rising from the chair he was sitting
in to his full seven and a half full height, his large yellow
orbs shifting around the bar one last time falling upon the
female in the corner, his feet treading towards the door and
opening it just to meet face to face with one of the knights
whose faces he dreaded so much, a sigh bypassing his lips, a
stutter of words leaving the knights lips.
“i…i-i…..its y-y-y…..y-you”
He reached for his sword and swung it upwards in an arch
knocking the man’s hood off, his sword clipping the edge of the
hood allowing his long onyx black hair to slink down to his
shoulders and slightly past them. He grasped the blade of the
sword in his hand and shattered it watching the pieces fall with
a loud clang to the ground, his eyes resting on the knight
before returning to his seat, plopping down upon the wood and
ordering another drink the pub now silent at the display his
eyes shifting back to the knight.
“Now run along tell your pathetic King that I will be along to
see him shortly, when I am done drinking unless he wants to come
see me.”
Just like that the knight was gone…a smirk bypassing his lips
shortly he expected their elites to be here or maybe their king
would actually come but he doubted it for now he remained silent
allowing all the eyes to remain perched on his massive form.

This bar was not privy to those from other lands, and the
occasional odd visitor was not something out of the ordinary.
Yet still...there was an air of difference around the single
visitor she'd spotted just as he'd spotted her. Then again, her
sense of smell was still decently heightened and something about
their kind always smelled...unique. Such perked her interest.
She smelled him...but he was human. In form, at least. This
female still eyed him from her perch in the corner, the
blackened slits that were her pupils widening in her interest,
the golden hues beneath seeming to glow from the shadows of her
spot. He wasn't human. He looked it...but didn't smell it, one
bit. This was not something she saw often...
So of course she guzzled down the remainder of her warm brew,
pulling the hood that had rested around her shoulders back over
her wrapped head, still eyeing the man just as he stood upwards.
This woman had every intention to follow him if he were to
leave, if he'd quit causing trouble already...All it took was
this stranger standing up and walking towards the door for hell
to occur. A quick battle at the door and soon his identity was
revealed, his attitude almost seeming relieved at it as he sat
back down with the situation seeming to mean nothing to him, he
even dared to throw his threats out with the knight! He
certainly had to be the man making a legend of himself...Perhaps
he could even help her in her current...er...predicament.
The woman, who's name she felt she'd offer to the man, rose
upwards whilst leaving behind an empty mug. She moved across
the creaking floorboards with an unseemly grace, almost floating
across with the black length of her cape following close behind.
The tips of her fingers graced his shoulders, her head peeking
at the left side of his own, her whisper a smooth hiss as she
spoke. "It's quite lovely to find another of the like-kind
near...Before you cart yourself off on your suicidal escapades,
care to speak with me, Human Slayer?"

His drink had become rather tasteless, the warm liquid slipping
down his throat and mixing with the flame that lay dormant
inside, his lips closed as did his eyes allowing him a moment of
deep thought, the eyes that once rested on him now turned away
scared that laying their eyes upon the beast may result to their
own deaths. Words slipped from the people's lips mere commoners
simply muttering at what he could be, demon, dragon, and worst
of all death in the flesh. A slight smirk crossed the man's lips
their words seeming to excite his ego a bit more since for now
his words would not be spoken. At the sound of movement his eyes
shifted open and the golden hues fell upon the form of a female
making her way across the bar, she was different than the other
simple patrons that rested here and he could tell it, his eyes
shifted around the bar one good time before falling to his drink
again not paying a second mind to the woman.
He returned to his meditative state a moment of pure relaxation
awaiting the arrival of the army of knights that would be soon
tapping at the bar door, his thoughts were on the beautiful
wonderful slaughter that would follow each cut of his claws into
skin was perfect and like gliding a knife through butter. The
hiss echoing through his ear drove him from his thoughts and his
suspicions were confirmed, she smelled of dragon kind now that
she was so close, but only one race of dragon hissed when they
spoke even in a humanistic form. His lips rose in disgust and
his fists clenched on his lap, oh how he hated the wyvern they
were lesser than the rest of the dragons and even had the
audacity to allow humans to use them as mounts. A simple
laughter parted through his lips when she spoke a nickname for
him, 'human slayer' so they picked a name for me great it fits.
This time his own words parted through his lips and danced on
the air, eerie and deep was his voice.
"Sit wyvern so we can discuss what you need to, unless you wish
to go elsewhere and talk..."
Before the woman could take a seat the bar door was pushed open,
the head of the knights walked in with that coward standing
behind him, his finger was pointed at the hooded man that
remained sitting down, his body shifting to a standing position
the head knight began to speak those his words were lost to JD
the first man to charge forward swung a longsword downward aimed
to tear at his body, his hand rose and he easily caught the
blade within the palm of his hand. JD sighed lightly and looked
forward he wouldnt have minded fighting the knights but he
needed to get out of here and as quickly as possible. His eyes
closed, his body shivered slightly the sound of ripping heard
throughout the bar, first his skin parted, separating for the
crimson colored flesh that poked through.
He reached over his shoulder and gripped the cloak ripping it
from his body revealing his body to the bar patrons and the
knights that now surrounded him and the wyvern. His chest puffed
in and out scars lining the entirety of his body, his long black
hair danced over the edges of the crimson wings that now stood
upon his back, each scale dancing along the edge of the wings
perfectly, the leathery part dancing lightly as they flapped
forward and back up. He grabbed the wyvern by the back of her
cloak and cape and flapped into the air. Clearing the space
between the city and the cave that lay outside of it quickly he
landed and lightly tossed the wyvern inside of the cave before
stepping in himself his wings fading back into his back and his
eyes looking around before falling back on her.
"What is it you want Wyvern?"
