By: Zavien Date: July 8, 2012, 3:11 am

Kenya's body language had completely changed by the time she
handed him the note. She had gone from excited, and inquisitive
to nervous. She was hiding something too. But what? There was
no way she was like him. So what could it be? Maybe she was a
really noisy eater? The thought made him laugh. He didn't write
her a return note, as the Professor had finally started talking
about their first project, and he had actually begun taking
notes in his notebook. He wrote the assignment as the professor
walked around, passing out some sort of contraption. The
assignment was both simple and incredibly complex all at once.
Each team was given a tool, and they were to enhance it, and
make it better in one weeks time, using the resources available
on the ship, Whatever they had been fortunate enough to bring,
or whatever they found on the first stop, which would be in
three days. In a weeks time, they would convene in the lab once
more with the final results. Cairo and Kenya's tool; A candle.
Cairo was practically in a state of shock when he saw what they
had to work with. A candle? That was so simple! What could you
possibly do with a candle other than to burn it!? But that
wasn't his top concern at the moment. Placing the candle in his
bag, he turned to Kenya and smiled. "We'll come up with
something great." He said confidently, despite his doubts. Many
of their classmates were already on their way out the door.
Others remained in their place to discuss possible things to do
for their projects. Cairo offered the woman his arm as he stood
to his feet. "Shall we?" He asked with a smile, prepared to see
what the ship had to offer for lunch.

Kenya hoped he wouldn't notice her stress, nor feel that she had
something to hide. Maybe she could somehow hide the fact that
she couldn't talk, she didn't exactly want it to spread out in
case he was not trustworthy. She found herself being rather
hypocritical at that point though; she had told herself that she
wanted to hide her disability because he might not be worth the
trust but she had no problem whatsoever with telling him about
her gift, or should we call it, curse. Maybe the reason was how
she wanted to team-up with him to figure out what truly
happened, or maybe it was because she knew something about him
that could risk his freedom as well, or... maybe it was just her
need of knowing that someone is like her in a way or another,
that she was not alone in this after all.
Awoken from her trance by looking to her side and watching as he
was taking notes, she figured she would do the same, grabbing
her notebook and pressing the pen to the paper.. then it hit
her, 'I don't need this. I don't need any of this. I'm not here
to learn, I'm here to create. I'm here for me, I'm here to help
myself. All of this helps them find out about me which could be
easily done if I had the voice to tell them myself who I am.'
But then again, 'Well, maybe just for now, little details won't
hurt anyone. It's not like I'm going to look at them again
anyway.' Her pen's ink flowed on the paper with so much ease as
she started recalling what she had missed earlier, catching up
as fast as she could and eventually getting to where the
professor was speaking of at that moment.
Once he was done she closed her notebook, put it aside and
observed as their tool; the candle, went into Cairo's bag.
'Interesting. He actually thinks he can lead me through all
this.' With an ice-cold face expression, she looked up at his
extended arm then offered him a soothing smile that she hoped
would make up for how she shook her head, lightly pushed his arm
down to his side and walked in front of him awaiting him to
       follow along her trail.

By: Zavien Date: July 8, 2012, 4:18 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
The smile on Cairo's face when Kenya refused his arm was
different from the ones prior. There was intrigue in it. Women
were usually so easy to read. And yet, this one was difficult.
There was no telling what was going on in that head of hers.
(guess she can't be JUST like you. xP) He followed, however,
after tossing his bag over his shoulder, a few ideas about the
candle floating around in his head. A couple actually felt like
strong possibilities, but he would have to discuss that with his
partner first, and it wasn't the time for that. There were other
things in mind after all. So he followed Kenya to the dining
hall, picked up a plate and walked through the buffet line,
making himself a plate, consisting mostly of various fruits, and
a piece of baked chicken. It had only been about two hours since
he had breakfast, so he wasn't all that hungry. He awaited Kenya
to finish her plate, before making his way outside.
There were too many people gathered in the dining area, plus the
wind, and the sound of music would drown out the sounds of
conversation out on the top deck. He sat in a beach chair near
the rear of the ship, and pulled one up next to him for Kenya,
as he casually tossed a piece of pineapple into his mouth,
chewing silently, and swallowing before speaking up. "Sorry
about the scenic route." he said, looking at the beauty with a
smile. "But I'd rather not have a million people listening in.."
He ddin't know why he was getting ready to tell her his story.
She had done nothing to prove herself trustworthy. And yet, he
       simply felt that she was...
"I feel like I can relate to you for some reason..." He started
out, pausing to eat a grape before continuing. "And I swear, no
part of this is any sort of pickup line. I just want you to know
that I'm putting my trust in you by telling you this. "My father
was Gerald Blaze..." He said. That was enough to get half his
story out the way. His father was a well known Scientist. Anyone
involved in the scientific community knew of his work on human
cell regeneration. It was said that he was on the verge of a
breakthrough when he was killed in a lab experiment, and his
       study discontinued.
"The accident that killed him did more than just that." Pause...
Not for a bite of food this time, but because he wasn't quite
sure how to explain to Kenya what happened on that day. and then
it came to him. He picked up the knife off his plate, and
stabbed it into the palm of his left hand. Not deep enough to
cause a large stream of blood, but enough for a noticable wound.
When he removed the knife, the wound closed up immediately.
"This is the life I've lived for the past 12 years." He said.
"And the reason I didn't want to come here." He stopped there,
deciding to give the woman a chance to speak. As he did so, he
reached into his back and pulled out some sort of solvent. It
was a sterilizer, to clean his blood from the knife. He had
found that it had particular effects when absorbed into
different materials, and this wasn't the time to test it. He
cleaned every drop onto a cloth, and put it away. It would
appear as if there had never been a cut in the first place, as
he turned to the silent beauty, awaiting her reaction.

Kenya eyed her lab partner as he grabbed his plate, gathered his
food and stood next to the window exit. Her head nodded to his
caution, she would have probably done the same thing. She didn't
want her secret out just as much as he didn't want his. She
finished her plate and noticed he had been waiting for her,
taking advantage of his kindness and passing him by, technically
leading him. Although he hurried and found them a place, she was
already satisfied about how she refused to engage her arm with
his. Whilst making her way towards the seat he dragged beside
his, all thoughts of how she was supposed to tell him about her
secret came to mind. The one about her ability was rather easy,
it was her silence she wouldn't be able to elaborate. With a
sigh escaping her lips, she rested her white-clothed bottom on
top of the chair, a little smile and a small shrug of her
shoulders directed at him as he stated his excuse about their
       seating.
Her leg laid on her other as she shook her head at his
assumption of how she would think. A pick-up line? Probably not.
She was appreciating the trust lecture and everything but she
wanted him to get straight to the point. Even though useless
talk would give her more time to think of how she would
represent her muteness, all he said was still important enough
to roam around in her head leaving her too helpless to come up
with anything. As he continued to speak, her 'not bad'
expression showed on her face when he mentioned his father was
Gerald Blaze. It was not a surprise, however, for mostly
everyone around here had scientists for parents.
Kenya listened to him as he gabbed about the accident, not
paying much attention. Until he picked up the knife, that was
when her eyes intently followed the sharpened edge's direction,
dark honey orbs watching as it slit his flesh open. She wasn't
exactly knocked for six when she saw his palm healing, she had
already witnessed that happening the day before, but at least
now she knew what caused such phenomenon to occur. As he set the
knife aside, she heaved a sigh, for she knew it was almost her
turn to 'speak'. It was the most difficult moment for her.
Someone sitting across from her was awaiting her reaction, her
words, a gasp, anything. Nothing. She wouldn't, she couldn't,
she was not able to. It almost watered her eyes but she was
       smarter than that.
Before she announced her fragility, Kenya figured it would be
better to utter her skill out first. She adjusted her position
on the chair and gave a more serious look. Her eyes wandered to
the right and left for a few seconds, leaning to the side to see
if anyone was behind him. She looked behind her shoulders; no,
no one. It was time. She inhaled, straightened her posture and
focused her sight on her phone for a few seconds. She hadn't
done this for a while, she was trying to stop herself as much as
possible, but she had to do this. Her eyes closed, the negative
ions from the acid traveled towards her phone, the sea of
electrons invisibly forming a circle around it. Slowly, her
phone opened, and words began being typed into it without a
single touch of her fingers. "I'm mute." Just as slow, the phone
floated a couple of inches above the surface it laid upon, the
shield of anions carrying it to his side of table. As soon as it
arrived, it sat on the glassy shell, Kenya's eyes opening and a
few droplets of blood slithered from her nose.

By: Zavien Date: July 9, 2012, 3:47 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
One defining moment. That was all it took for Cairo to know why
he had felt he could trust this woman; All it took for him to
label her as his right hand on this adventure. Yet again, she
proved to be like him, as she made the phone float in midair.
Her gift was different from his in nature, of course, but she
was different, like him, and that was all that mattered. And
then, the keys began to punch. He looked at the phone as the
letters compiled to make the words. Mute? Cairo immediately
looked to the sky, trying to recall having ever heard her voice.
But he couldn't. She had never spoken to him! She really was
mute. His eyes then locked onto hers, but the first thought that
came to his mind wasn't what he needed to communicate to her. He
wanted to tell her that she was beautiful. That words were
nothing but a tool anyway. But clearly she had gotten on for so
long without them for this long, she didn't need him to tell her
       that.
So instead of taking that approach, he reached for her phone,
which still floated before him, and deleted her message, now
typing in a message of his own. "I think we'll make quite a
team." For some reason, he saw no need to speak in that moment.
He felt it would take away from the message. So he handed her
phone back, and offered her a sincere smile. There was no
judgement in his eyes. Only understanding. Understanding of her
struggle; Of trying to hide half of your identity, while
presenting the other half. It was next to impossible. The proof
of the contents of his message would be in their first
assignment. They had a week to accomplish it, but Cairo was sure
that they wouldn't need that long. By the time they landed on
the Island in three days, he felt they would likely be finished.
He extended his hand to the woman, this being his way of making
a proper introduction. Writing their names on a sheet of paper
seemed nothing, compared to presenting their true essense to
each other. He hoped she would understand what was meant by
       this.

Her eyes opened, her sight a tad blurry, her hand reaching for a
napkin to wipe the blood she felt drip down her nose. She
shifted her vision straight to him, wanting to observe his
reaction of her ability. Kenya was certain he wouldn't be
frightened like anyone else would, rather, astonished that she,
also, had a gift. Great things could be done. It all played in
her head now. Both of them working in the lab on their separate
projects, and whenever a professor came to check on them, Cairo
would be the one to respond and assure him or her that
everything went well. Yeah, he was a definite cover-up for her
muteness. And if she wasn't in the lab, she would probably be at
her room, making no contact with any other person on the ship.
       Sounded like the best plan.
Not long before she regained her focus did she find out she was
staring at him the entire time, his eyes gazing right back and
his hand extended in request of meeting hers. She dropped her
sight to her phone for but a second, reading what he typed and
giving it a small, agreeing nod. Kenya lifted her hand and
gracefully shook his in response. It was definitely going to be
a long, long journey, but a pleasing one at that.

Kenya's nosebleed was indication that she didn't have complete
control over her ability. He decided upon seeing it that fact,
he decided to help her master her powers. After all, he had
learned to isolate his cells, and use them to create tools with
similar traits, such as the cloth he had used in the lab
earlier. Perhaps he could do some work with her abilities as
well! He couldn't help but feel a bit of jealousy though. After
all, her ability was amazing, and had so much potential, while
his ability wasn't even voluntary. There was no "Learning to
control it" or "Enhancing his ability" It was simple. It only
did one thing. Not only that, there was a serious downside...
He didn't know what she was thinking the entire time, as she
stared at him, but he had a feeling that they would have a lot
to discuss. He would need a way for them to communicate. Perhaps
the two of them could make a machine that returns her voice. If
they could make it early in the year, they could spend the rest
of their time relaxing. Of course, he had no idea that she was
already working on something to enable her to communicate. "So
       about this candle..."

What was she thinking telling him her life-long secret? No one
knew that about her except her. She had no intentions of telling
anyone about her plans to construct that machine that would make
her capable of communicating with people. But he seemed
different, he was different. Different... just like her. She saw
it with her own eyes, he couldn't have possibly been lying to
get help with his project. Ah, her suspicious self was much too
destructive. Her eyes gazed into his for a while after they
shook hands, awaiting for him to speak. Kenya never imagined
she'd be in a situation like this. She lived her entire life
avoiding interactions with people because of moments like this.
       She never prepared herself.
Finally, she heard him speak, his voice slicing the silence she
couldn't help but live within. The candle. He actually wanted to
help with that? She could do it just fine on her own. He would
be a great hand but she always believed that no one can
accomplish her work better than her. But, supposedly, it was
both their work. She nodded her head to his few words, waiting
for more to come. She would probably need a pen and paper to
interact with him properly, but for now, she'd leave the talking
       to him.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Once again, Kenya fell into a pool of unknown thoughts. The
thought was funny, considering how the two had met in the first
place. Cairo made no attempt to probe her thoughts with
questions. He would do as little making her talk as possible.
After all, she would have to write everything she wanted to say.
Instead, he shared his thoughts with her about the candle
project. Sure either of them would be perfectly capable of doing
it on their own, but they were partners. They should do equal
work, not take credit for each other's work. Besides. She was
probably the only person on the ship, if not the world, like
him. He actually wanted to spend the time with her.
"When I was home, I found a way to isolate my cells, and use
them to enhance objects." He started. That was pretty much the
extent of his work before coming onto the ship. "Like the cloth
i used in the lab to make the paper new again. I was thinking of
doing that for the candle, so that the wax would never burn out.
But then I realized that the Professor would want to know how we
did that, and I'd be busted." He looked over the side of the
ship. Nothing but water as far as the eye could see. "But then I
started thinking of something else. If we melted the wax down,
and accented it with a certain liquid metal, we could make it so
it would create mroe light. Instead of just the flame, the wax
itself would glow like metal under a flame." Just any steel
won't work though. There's a certain metal called Cutrilium. I
doubt there's any on the ship, but the Island where we're
scheduled to stop in a couple days is known for having plenty.
They make jewelry out of it." He looked back at the mute beauty
and smiled. "So what do you think?"

As she focused once again on the face of the man sitting across
from her, she listened carefully to his first plan, his brows
lightly furrowing for she knew the professor would probably ask
about the chemicals used and how the experiment was carried out.
She was about to grab her phone and type but his flip-flop words
stopped her, her hands resting back on her legs. Kenya was
finding it rather hard to agree with this man, Cairo, but she
forced herself to do so. She detested liars, let alone those who
lie to themselves; she couldn't stand them; she wouldn't be one
of them. Kenya knew that with the help of this man and if they
teamed up properly as they were destined and assigned, great
       things would happen.
At the mention of Cutrilium, Kenya's head tilted then it all
played out perfectly in her head. Yes, yes, Cutrilium is an
alkali. It's a metal but can be transformed to liquid. It was
not an easy process but it could be done, and from there, the
candle could only produce more light while it diminishes. All
she could do now, however, was nod her head with a bright yet
delicate smile. She was not fully ready to let her guard down
and trust this man. Indeed, she'd work with him, but she
wouldn't allow herself to believe his every word. For now, at
least. She took her phone, typed up a single word and handed the
       phone to him.
       "Perfect."
