Kenya and Cairo
By: Zavien Date: July 6, 2012, 12:20 am

So the day had come... Cairo sighed as he looked up at what was
possibly the biggest structure he had ever soon that wasn't
bolted to the ground. The Knowledge of the Seas. This cruise
ship was designed to give birth to the greatest Generation of
scientists and mechanics the world had ever seen, and for the
next year, it would be his home... Cairo hadn't wanted to
participate in this endeavor, but at his mothers request, here
he stood before the ship. He was a brilliant mind, but had an
aversion to labs, which he would spend an insane amount of time
in for the next year. Each person on the ship was going to be
some sort of genius, some brilliant mind picked out from
thousands of competitors. But Cairo doubted there would be any
like him. He looked at his arm as he watched the bellmen take
his bags away, headed to his room. Not a single scar. Not on his
arms, chest, anywhere. He was special alright... Each person on
the ship was to work on a project that could change the world,
either on their own, or collectively in a group. Of course it
was doubtful that anyone getting on this ship today knew anyone
else. There was no way two people that close would be accepted
to take part on a voyage as exclusive as this. Hell, Cairo
didn't even want to be there. On the other hand, some of these
geniuses were pretty attractive, he noticed, as he looked down
from the top deck of the ship. It wouldn't be all work. "If I'm
going to do this, I might as well enjoy it." He said, taking in
the rays of the sun as he awaited the ships departure.

She wanted help from no body, not even the poor man who was only
there to carry her luggage. Kenya couldn't communicate, and she
preferred not to. She was here on a mission and that mission was
to restore her ability to interact with people. Not necessarily
by voice, which is practically impossible now since the damage
that had happened to her years back affected her greatly,
completely destroying sensitive cords in her larynx which
silenced the words urging to erupt. She slid a hand into her
purse and struggled to take the card out. 'Heh, finally.' Kenya
flipped the card and inserted it into the door's slit, the light
turning green as she pushed down the knob, stepping in. She shut
the door behind her after sliding the card into place for the
lights to switch on. Whilst dragging her bags inside the room,
her eyes glanced at a telephone. A frown appeared on her face as
she furiously walked towards it, unplugging its cords, the sight
of her own cords being ripped flashing in her mind. She fell on
the bed, partially laying back while her eyes stared aimlessly
at the ceiling. Kenya was glad she had this opportunity.. Back
home she couldn't exactly find all she needed.. But for now, it
was time to rest. Her feet rose upon the bed, after she flicked
each heel off, turning herself around and closing her eyes,
sensing the ship's engine trigger.

Rumor had it that the labs on this ship were equipped with the
most high-tech, and quality equipment on the planet; originating
from everywhere from Japan to Germany. But none of that
mattered, considering what was available on the TOP deck! Cairo
was capable of great scientific accomplishment, but he usually
only worked on smaller projects, not wanting to get too deep
into that lifestyle again. He had taken to working out, and
developing a social life, instead of feeding the intellectual
part of himself, that was surely screaming out of starvation.
Pairs of gorgeous eyes slid over the mans body as their owners
walked by, equipped with bodies just as gorgeous. The ship had
barely taken off and it was already a paradise! Cairo took no
interest in pursuing any of the women he exchanged glances with.
He had gotten the room number of one woman named Cathy, who was
an astrophysicist, but he had no intention of visiting her. He
instead settled in a chair under the shade of the upper deck,
and prepared to take a nap. He would enjoy this day, for in 24
hours, the labs would begin..

Her sleep continued, the same old dream striking again. 'No,
mother, no! Don't go there, mother, no!' She yelled, so high, so
pitched, so loud. Her mother didn't listen however. Kenya's
voice began to weaken, she didn't know why. She kept yelling
louder and louder but nothing changed her mother's opinion and
nothing silenced Kenya's screams except a cartridge that
penetrated her chest, slashing a branch of her vagus nerve that
supplies motor function and sensation to the laryngeal nerve
which eventually gives boost with each vibrating word to her
voice box. Her lips moved, but no sound came out. In a mix of
confusion, shock, and melancholy emotions, Kenya let herself
drop to the dusty, unpaved ground, her hand on her chest as it
shed less blood than it should have, eyes intently gaping at the
body of her mother as it collapsed. "Mom..." A very feeble tone
extended from her throat, and just as Kenya's eyes shut, she
woke from her dream.. Nay, nightmare. Her eyes were glued to the
ceiling when they opened, she needed to refresh herself and
leave this room for the next couple of hours.
The cartouche that cleaved through her flesh came from a place
she'd rather forget, a place that securely locked her father in
because of his political stands. Said cartouche had certain
aqueous acids within it. Normal acids would have a pH below 7,
this one was below 2, and it resulted in enhancing focus and
concentration. She never meant for this to happen, nor was she
ever satisfied, but she had to admit it did help a lot at times.
She preferred not using her ability much though, for she knew it
could get out of control and people could find out about how she
really is and would probably send her off some place else and
she would never be able to communicate with a being or have this
chance of even attempting to do so again.
On her way out of the room, she snatched the card, opened the
door just as the lights turned off and instantly headed to the
top deck where there was a pool and a bar for all scientists to
gather. Every one was already conversing, chatting, and she
could only shake her head at such acts. For a moment she decided
to sit at the bar but she changed her mind as soon as she found
a group of people welcoming whoever came to have a drink.
Shaking her head with a light smirk, she made her way towards a
cushioned seat, her gossamer dress wavering delicately with each
step she took towards her destination.

Cairo was in the midst of quite the deep nap. In fact, his sleep
was so intense, he didn't even awaken to see the room number
that someone had left on his bare chest. In time, the wind blew
it away, most likely right in to some lucky man's hand. Cairo's
dream wasn't exactly pleasant. He saw images of different
solutions in their test tubes. All sorts of colors they were;
red, blue, even pink. They broiled and rose until they reached
the tips, but they continued to rise, overflowing to converge on
the table, mixing together, and joining to form a single, white
concoction that began to flood the room. It didn't take long
until Cairo was enveloped in the mystery liquid, however, it's
corrosive nature didn't harm his skin. He didn't drown in it,
despite it covering his mouth and nose. In fact, he grew gills,
and was simply trapped within the sea of white soup. There was
no pain or suffering, only an endless feeling of being lost.
But that would soon come to an end. A servant was on his way out
to deliver a hot fondu to a patron, when he tripped over a loose
sandal, falling forward, and propelling the boiling liquid right
onto Cairo's bare chest. The heat stirred him out of his sleep
instantly, as he jumped out of his chair, shouting obscenities.
The searing pain caused him to back directily into a woman, who
one could only assume was walking toward the area to take a
seat. Unfortunately, she would instead find herself in the pool.

Kenya had only began to turn her head around to check where the
angered voice's source was coming from, 'How dare he shout so
lo-' As his arms swung in difference directions, it was her own
misfortune when his elbow hit her stomach and seconds later she
was drenched in water, her honey-colored hair strands moistly
clinging onto her dribbling face. Her mouth opened, she was
about to yell for help, but she knew that if she had done such
thing, people would pity and sympathize with her and the least
she needed on this journey was someone to keep reminding her of
past ache. She kept trying to swim, she couldn't, she never
learned how to. Her whole life was built on sorrow because of
her mother's death; she didn't have time for it. Each time she
attempted to reach out for the edge of the pool, the water
pulled her down and her legs increased the weight as they
continued kicking; her arms splashing water everywhere. She
tried her best to keep gasping for air, she knew someone would
give her a hand right away but she wouldn't ask for help, even
if she could...

Everything was moving in slow motion. The contact, the girl
falling into the the pool, the water that splashed when she hit
the water, everything! Cairo tried to reach out to catch her,
but it was too late, she was already in the nine foot water and
there was no taking it back. Without waiting a second to even
see if she could swim, Cairo jumped in after her, taking only
seconds to reach her position where she flailed wildly,
attempting to stay above the surface of the water. He wrapped
his right arm around her waist, holding her close to his body
for support. "I got you." He said. His voice was reassuring, as
it was calm and powerful. With his free hand, he guided them
over to the ladder, helping her to get up and out of the water
before climbing out after her.
Once he had gotten out, he spoke up to the woman apologetically.
"I'm so sorry about that." His hand grazed the intense burn on
his chest. "This idiot pouted this hot soup on my chest and-"
Suddenly his eyes widened. He looked down to witness that the
burn was healing right in front of her eyes! 'Shit!' he thought,
as he quickly turned to the side. He hadn't wanted anyone to
know about how... different, he was. "I'm so sorry." He said
again, before handing her the dry towel that was resting in his
chair, turning and making his way to his room on the sixth deck.
It wasn't until he was safe in his room that it occured to him.
That girl was AMAZING! Eyes like he had never seen... Lips...
Curves... She was perfect! And then the wet white dress only
added to the appeal! He had gotten an opportunity for a much
better look than she had intended to show anyone! If only things
hadn't been so chaotic he may have actually taken the time to
look. Hopefully she hadn't seen his chest healing so rapidly.
She would surely have questions... That was, If he ever came
across her again...

'I got you.' His voice.. so calm and tranquil. So deep, so
confident. Full of pain but still holds its composure. Her eyes
flickered open only to find her arm wrapped around his shoulder
and the other around his neck, her leg almost coiled around his
body too. She couldn't focus at all this time, even though she
was usually relaxed. Her head kind of just sunk against his
neck, her body surrendering it to his embrace as he carried her
out of the pool. He was entitled to do as such, after all only
seconds ago did she find out he was the one who tripped her in.
Kenya's eyes darted towards the burn on his chest as he told his
excuse, brows furrowing as she noted how it was healing.
Unsurprisingly enough, she didn't make a scene, only made a
decision to know more about it than he was ready to share. Kenya
continued to dry herself as she watched him leave, eyes glancing
around people who asked if she was feeling alright. All she did
was nod and fake a light smile so they wouldn't suspect
anything. Even though she knew that sooner or later they would
find out, she preferred it not be on the first day there.
Eventually, she helped herself up, resting the towel on the
man's chair and taking heavy steps back towards her room. 'Will
I ever see him again..? Well, of course, I have to. I'd search
all over if I must. If he has this ability, and he's a
scientist, then he could probably help me with my project..
Yeah, he could, he'd be a great asset.' All of her thoughts
crashed once she entered the room, going in for a shower and
another nap that hopefully had no nightmares as the previous one
did.

For hours, Cairo didn't come out of his room. It wasn't that he
didn't want to explore the ship, rather that he didn't want to
go out after putting himself in such a situation as the one that
had just happened. Instead, he tinkered with little gadgets from
his bags. Home made speakers, a portable air conditioning of his
own invention. Nothing that was truly worthwhile, but enough to
keep his hands busy. That was his involvement with the
scientific community since he lost his father. Just enough to
remind him that he had a brain. Eventually, he took a shower,
turned on the television, and allowed the gentle rocking of the
ship to carry him off to sleep. He knew well what the morning
would bring.
A wake up call would bring the man to attention at 9am. This
call would mean he had an hour to get dressed, get himself
together, and make it to lab. Far longer than he needed. After
putting on a nice shirt and pants, he prepared to make his way
to the 9th deck for some breakfast. He found, however that
something had been slipped under his door. It was a sheet of
paper, welcoming him to the Academic Adventure of a lifetime.
His assigned lab was 8C, on the Eighth deck. After folding the
paper up and putting it in his pocket, he grabbed a bite to eat,
and headed down to lab to find that only a few had arrived
before him. "I guess this is where the 'fun' begins... He said
to himself, taking a seat at a table near the back of the room.

Due to how she unplugged the telephone's cords, she woke up to
frantic knocking on her door, instantly getting up and heading
towards it while sleepily rubbing her eyes. In slight anger, she
opened up, the person knocking freezing with a paper held out.
Kenya nodded to him and snatched the paper, slamming the door
behind her as she walked back towards her bed while unfolding
the paper. 'Welcome to the Academic Adventure you were blessed
to have achieved, very few intellectual people have been chosen
to be on this cru- Blah blah blah blah,' Her eyes drifted to the
end of the paper. 'Your assigned lab is 8C, on the Eighth deck.'
A sigh slipped from her mouth as a smile replaced the drowsy
look. She put her paper aside and went for a shower. In 30
minutes she was done with getting dressed. A simple white shirt
and classic white pants. She adjusted her hair, only
straightening the strands above her forehead. She always took
care of herself after the accident; it was as if looking nice
would make up for what had happened.
On her way out, she took the piece of paper that assured where
she was ascribed, got in her 2 inch heels and headed out for a
light breakfast. In about 10 minutes she was done, taking
graceful steps down the stairs, her eyes wandering about for a
door that would say (8C). 'There.' Once she had entered, she
caught the man she met the day before sitting in the far back. A
satisfactory grin crept on the edgy curves of her lips as she
strolled calmly and steadily to the seat beside him, daringly
sitting and waiting a few seconds before looking him right in
the eye with a subtle beam.
