Elly and Gavin

"Angles, it is all in the angles, where line meets line. You can
have the nicest looking structure in the world, but if the
angles are not right, it is a death trap." Those were the words,
that the mason, John Haggard, had told Gavins architectural
design class this morning. Architecture is about geometry, he
had explained, as he showed a slide of some of the buildings,
and monuments his company had made. These made sense to Gavin,
everything needed to be set correctly, in order to work. If you
had one measurement wrong, it could affect the whole project.
Leaning bak against the tree, he now sat under, Gavin stared out
over the ark, at the buildings in the distance.
Gavin was a younger man, only just turning twenty-one, he had a
troubled past, being orphaned when he was barely a year old. He
had been tossed from home to home until he was eighteen, though
even with all of that, he had managed to keep excellent grades,
and stay levelminded. He was going to college now, for
architectural design, and the class always kept him focused.
Even if it was something as simple as how a tool shed was made.
Smiling, Gavin lifted the notebook next to him and started
drawing, after he ran a had through his dirty blonde hair. His
light baby blue eyes, which held the analyzing look of a
craftsman, where set in a square face, that could be, and on
more than one occasion, very attractive, even with his strong
square jaw, focused first on a building i the distance, then on
the paper, and he started to draw.
This was how the young man spent his afternoons, after he had
gotten out of his design class, and his physcology class. He
would go out to the park, to the same hill, and sit under the
same tree, and just draw. Today was a wonderful day for it too,
the sun was shining bright and warm, and there was just enough
of a breeze that it stayed omfortably cool, as well as take
advantage of his shaggy hair, and occasionally mess it, or try
and turn pages in his book.
