Amp meter

I want to get some way to measure amps and since I cant get my
fluke meter to read amps dc/ac My meter has a setting for both
but it just wont read anything, May be I am doing it wrong ! I
thought I would buy a panel meter but I am not sure which I
should buy. Should I buy an ac amp meter or dc Which do you
think I would get more use out of I am looking at something
like this

Duh! on my part I didn't know my meter had a fuse in it for
amps! all fixed now

I use a length of nichrome wire cut to 1 ohm. they have it at
hobby / crafts stores for hot wire cutting styrofoam. then I
just measure the volts across it and rename them amps. ::)

Interesting @CG would a 1 ohm resistor do the same thing ?
(sorry if this is a dumb Q I have so little knowledge in this
area) but I am learning !

yes, but it would have to be a high watt resistor. about 15
watts. You could use 10 10 ohm resistors 1 watt each. wire
them in parallel. 10/10= 1 ohm. 10x1= 10 WATTS.
or just use your meter on the 10 amp input.
the nice thing about measuring the voltage across the 1 ohm
resistor is:
1. no blown fuses
2. you can connect a scope and see the current. scopes see
voltage but you need a special probe to see current.
