Dual Cylinder Lynx Boxer Engine

This is an engine I designed years ago and I never built. The
goal was to design as simple an engine as I could, fewest parts
and simplest machining. Many of the parts are one pass cut from
sheet aluminum. If anyone is interested I could develop the
plans with dimensions and explain a bit more.
The valve is a "bash valve" actuated by the momentum of the
piston's side to side motion flinging it into the "penny valve".
The engine uses a Scotch Yoke, so there is no wrist pin and the
pistons are thin. The engine's crankcase is sealed and can
contain a lubricant. Exhaust is by uniflow at the end of the
stroke.
The hardest part of this engine is machining the cylinder which
would need to be done at a machine shop from steel or cast iron.
Its not a good idea to make the cylinder from aluminum due to
its expansion when hot.

Hi, looks great, I would like to try to fabricate it. The bash
valve solves the size scaling problem created by the spool valve
with the design I found.
I have all the parts needed to fabricate. Is it ok to use brass
pipes for the cylinders with a aluminum piston and silicone o
rings?

So 1 inch bore, with a about a 2 inch stroke?
Can you post a better view of the bash valve.
Today I am starting to fabricate the cylinder end blocks for the
brass pipes. They should look like small hydraulic piston
cylinders.

You'll want a much shorter stroke for fast running and power.
Use teflon O-rings. A diagonal slice with a razor will allow
them to be installed. Brass for cylinders is good, aluminum
piston is perfect for lightweight.
Give me a few days to dimension the drawings and I will post on
the Lynx website as a fullsize pdf or I can email you. This
design will still require some precision machining. No way
around the fact that steam engines require precise machining to
work well.

Hi, I purchased a edge finder, the conical point locates the
hole location really well. My skills are improving. 8) I am
ordering a mill end vise today.
I look forward to your update, Thanks for the help. Scotch
Boxer, nice marketing name??? Need 0.5 to 1 HP, that is all my
buck circuit can handle, 15 amps at 12 volts.
