       SUT,
Tell me again what that longer pole coupler is called. Also,
the blade you made last fit the Gull 160 foam core perfectly.
Those measurements are a lock for the test Seagull turbine we
will make. I am ordering magnet wire today for three sets of
coils. Should I order the right size magnets and charge you
(barter) or do you want to procure yourselves?
Would you guys want to charge 24 or 12 volt? GTI's typically
want 14-30vdc so I usually make the larger turbines for 24 volt.
It has to do with magnet wire size.
Since you both have such bad wind conditions, you may want to
think about making your turbines to spec, be able to disassemble
in the future and then sell. You could then use the money for
your hobbies, solar panels or your wife.

What I used was a 1' mechanical coupling (black pipe )(the sides
are flat ) I got it at true value hardware HD didn't have
them. It has the same od as the 1 1/2 emt Id, or very close it
slides in pretty easy , also if you look at ridged couplings in
emt I think they are the same but you would have to check it

Forgot to reply to 2nd question ! ::) I have 12 neo magnets
that are 2 3/16x 7/8x 1/4 would they work? or do you want all
the magnets to be identical? and as far as charging 12 or 24
volt you know best if 24 volt is what should be used I am game !
The wife has been bugging me to move so I wouldn't sell the
windmill I would just take it to better home . The testing of
this windmill will probably end up at a better sight anyway, I
was planing to have it placed here for the most part but take it
to another location to get # there also to see how much better
it works. Any cost in doing this is not a problem on my part, I
think this is an honor to be able to test for you (knowledge is
       priceless )

Well, this is why we are testing this new design. Currently the
blades are made from hot wire cut foam, then covered with
styrene 0.020" plastic, then painted to protect against UV.
It's a time consuming process. The blades on my test Gull have
been through everything Michigan can throw at them. The only
issues are one blade's TE corner popped open due to high speed
and stress at the rotor join, and all the blades show paint
being sandblasted off the LE. Luckily the plastic is white too.
I have 100's of birds visit the turbine, because they eat the
dead zebra mussels off the hoist. We have all types of birds
and bats here. Not one has collided with the VAWT in four years
of testing. I think they know it's there like a tree.
The problem with the big GE types is they seem docile, but the
tips are traveling very fast and that surprises (kills) large
       thermaling birds.

       Happy,
You may be over thinking a lot of this stuff. But that's OK if
that is your joy. My joy is designing, thinking, building.
I use much fancier materials for the Gulls. Comes in 4' x 10'
sheets and 100's of dollars. Do you think a DIYer is going to
do that? Plywood is easy to fabricate, very strong and light
       for its strength.
Carbon fiber, plastics, aluminum, fiberglass, composites of
metals and plastics ... all have their place and uses. For a
garage mechanic to master these and have the tooling is
       unlikely.
So the goal for the DIY is to come up with a good design
utilizing basic tools and common materials.
If someone at NASA or GE with large budgets wanted to build a
Lynx Wind turbine I am sure they could spend $$$ millions and
end up with a bankrupt enterprise.

exactly...same here ..i.m not the average joe i do like to think
an design too..you have it right i love to do the same ...i look
for self reliance threw learning.. ..with advanced methods or
simple where there is a will there is a way....i save to do the
best..i understand. what your saying..an i like to open ones
minds to explore possibilities never thought about... we only
use 10 percent of our brain..i like to teach our culture/people
young an old that no longer thinks... they just wait till dad
or someone says i can gets you/ them a job.. an then do there 30
years an then do what sit on a beach most ie after retirement an
young people want easy...... we have lost generations of
thinkers....do you want simple or the wow factor..that's the
way i look at... i want both..by what ever means necessary
all-things are possible if taught to think. the choice is yours
know doubt....i'm a dreamer living my dream!

@ CG but you did not share how you laminated your rotor vawt an
made it cheaper.. as i asked what you did.. an i have heard you
had to rebuild it twice? an it dose strange things like
       levitate....

As soon as I saw the inside surface of the blades in your other
pics, i knew there wouldn't be be a drag issue. the close ups
confirm it. You make some nice aluminum blades. Great job!
