       @Ness,
       I think i have it.
       I understand the lamp on state quite well.
       My thought on the charging state is that  the small current to
       Q1 turns it on a little,  enough that current will flow across
       Q1 with the effect being that there is no voltage build up on
       the mosfet gate, thus the mosfet is not turned on and the lamp
       is not turned on.
       Am i correct.

       Yep....I think you have now got the concept of the circuit. :)
       Just a side note on R3.....I think I put it there to stop any
       small stray voltages that could be picked up from radio
       interference during the dark hours......On my unit I had fitted
       a 100k resistor directly across the solar panel so I do advise
       fitting R3.....It will do the same job.

       Much thanks I will be trying to see how i can get this circuit
       to work with the LJL.
       On another note i have my LJL  up and working.
       The intention now is to setup lights in my backyard for
       security.
       I am hoping my next postings will be to present my progress.
