I have had the best results with cold feed at the bottom of a
vertical coil or in the middle of a horizontal coil. Look up
"contra flow" to understand the best way to orient the tubing
       and heat.
A very simple design is to take a 100 foot length of 1/4" copper
refrigeration tubing - wind around a 1.5" pipe about 10-12" long
and then wind back over. Try to leave one tube width between
each turn. It is best to allow each layer loose to the next.
You could use a spacer of 1/2" styrofoam or something. The idea
is to allow fire to move around and through the coil to exhaust
out the middle. You can surround this finished monotube coil
with a piece of sheet metal, insulate and heat from the bottom.
As long as you force the exhaust out the middle it will work
well. The feedwater will enter the innermost coil, and exit the
outside coil. I have had very good success with this type.
Another way is to use a rocket stove tube that expels its hot
gases at the top and turns down through the coils.
If this was easy everyone would do it.

Hi, thanks. I plan to use sparks plugs to sense the water level
to turn on the feed pump, any suggestions where it should be
placed? Should there be any dry space at the top of coil? How
often does your pump turn on?

I have used white vinegar to remove scale from my MR COFFEE. So
acetic acid would work to remove scale also.

Hi, I am just taking it one problem at time. Thanks for the
info. Here is a LaMont boiler, it uses a mono tube and a
preheater section. If the single monotube does not supply enough
steam this could be a better option.

I wonder if it would work with gravity feed???

Hi, after reviewing the LaMont boiler I have a new boiler
concept drawing. No circulating pump. The green boxes are
couplers so I can increase the coil length as needed.

Please pardon my ignorance but, the tubing for the coils, is it
just the same copper tubing I can get from the hardware store
that's normally used for water? The kind for ice makers and
       such?

Hi, I think Lynx used refrigeration copper tubing. I plan to use
what is available at the hardware store.
I forgot to include the over pressure release valve in the new
       concept drawing ::)
It looks like the mono tube is really safe, I found a example of
one that ruptured and the results were not that bad. I am feel
better about the project but safety is always a major concern.

Hi, just a more complete concept drawing for my monotube boiler
       project.
