Hi, I completed the new 2 cycle conversion. At 40 psi it has
enough power to just run itself. At 50 psi and above there is
enough power to do some work. Really need a double action
engine, but it is a good learning tool.

Timing is crucial, jus like in an internal combustion engine.
Tuning will be difficult with that setup, but as you say iy is a
great learning toll. I am impressed with what you do.

I just had a brainstorm on your steam problem.
Have you ever heard of the "hit and mis engine.".?
Think of your pendulum.
you only need to supply a push every once and awhile. you dont
need constant steam pressure.
you can push the pendulum when you build up enough pressure. it
doesn't have to be cyclic.
example ...build up pressure...when it gets to a critical level
you open the valve to get a push on the pendulum..... close the
valve....build up pressure....open the valve.....give the
pendulum another push....close the valve and so on. The only
thing is "when to push.".
Might work..........

Hi, the steam supply problem was solved by reducing the size of
the engine and increasing the size of the fire. I plan to add a
50% cam and a roller switch to the PMA so the PMA circuit will
only be ON during the power stroke of the steam engine. This
will get me started until I find or fabricate a double action
steam engine. I only need a 1/4 HP because my buck circuit max
output is 15 amps at 12 volts. Thanks to everyone for the help.
I have identified all the problems areas and I am working on the
solutions. Basically the experimentation phase is over and it is
time to complete the system and start to generate some current.
Thanks again.

Be nice when you're done (successful) if you could make a very
detailed "how to make steam/electricity for dummies". Book.

nice video showing 4 stroke conversion, could be used to
fabricate a dual piston double action steam engine

There is no reason your converted 4 stroke shouldn't run this
well or better. It's about timing which is a pain but worth the
effort. In the video the engine is somewhat throttled because
all the air (exhaust) has to escape out the 1/2 hole. If that
exhaust were aided by the much wider poppet valve it wouldn't
have as much back pressure.
Inlet can't be before TDC and should shutoff at mid stroke.

Hi, thanks for the info. I am just exploring fabrication
options. Basically I need a 1/4 HP double action steam engine.
The fabrication method shown looks like it is the easiest to
fabricate. My 4 stroke conversion works well but it is to large
for my boiler size. The oil pan also fills with water. I am
working on automating the water pump and connecting a PMA to the
2 stroke. I will post results when available.

Hi, I found a nice size gasifier that might work well with a
monotube boiler.
