Wind Powered Volkswagen

So today I drove my '58 beetle to work and it conked out
halfway.. It wouldn't restart because I rarely drive it and the
battery gets low. The charging system isn't very good unless
the drive is long. It's a 6 volt system and I don't have a 6
volt charger. Ahh...but yes I do.
So I hooked up the Gull 160 and it's charging the bug this
afternoon. Winds are calm now but a storm is coming through
tonight and I should get a good 4-8 amp charge.

Yes that 6 volt charging system leaves much to be desired!! you
could change it over to 12 volt they make the stuff for it but
then it wouldn't be original

My problem is I don't drive it enough. I love the original 6
volt system. Part of the charm is all the original stuff. I
need to find some 6 volt trickle charger for the winter. You'd
think I would be able to come up with some device with all the
electronics crap I have.
I plan to drive The Bug a lot this summer so my son can use the
Ford Escape.
Winds have picked up to 10-11 and the battery voltage is coming
up to 6.4 volts now.

the biggest trouble with the 6 volt system is the starter does
not spin fast enough and long enough for it to start easily what
you need to do is hook up 2 6volt batteries in series for just
starting(12) then switch over to parallel for running and
charging, the 6 volt starter can handle 12 volts

@CG,
I am sure I could find something or make something. The car
started right up this morning...vroooom! I probably won't have
any more problems until winter.
There are drawbacks to wind power, but some advantages too. It
is a very nice charger for any voltage between 1-60 volts.
Right now it's back on the 12 volt/GTI dump load.
