lynx what thickness do you want to go with an what alloy of
aluminum for wing foil tips... i showed you 16 ga. steel today
       to heavy..
here is some spec.. an usage chart descriptions.. for alum.

This is what I am thinking for the Seagull 175. Aluminum is
easy to cut on a jig saw, or could be water jet cut and sold
with a kit. I like 5052, it is very corrosion resistant and
stiff. Because there is now no overhang, the bracing will
mostly pull down on the spar and not the tip.

@ lynx that it will be.. i will put the request into shop
tomorrow.. how many do you want?..i have not had my wing tips
yet i was going with original 1/8 but know will wait an go
smaller.. i called an have not made any yet ...before you made
the request change... i was going with 1/8 thick aluminum. we
can do a test or what ever you decide.. is i have the
       print..just need the quantity
i have a question just learning some physics in motion gyro
stress analysis.. you thought 16 ga steel was to heavy... i
agree... but your vawt is so well balanced would it not
propeller centrifugal force an help drive it with momentum for
       torque like a gyro...say driving a small generator head....just
thinking out loud here as a question.. if more secure bracing
top to top on airfoil an a strap down to rotor arm connected too
the strap..from bottom.. where in place..to retain all stress..
just an idea.. an thought.. i know you want it as light as
possible for other reasons such as stress an vibration an
balance.. .do i make any sense.. dose not centrifugal work with
       inertia..

are these the same exact size no overall dimension change or
elliptical radius dimension change..no big deal lynx.. i have
been pdf poster printing.. then convert lay out for
programming from print.. for the air foil tips... this is just
the same size just different... thickness 1/16 an material
alloy change 5052 alum,...overall dimensions stays the same..

Size of blade tips stays the same.
Heavy weight on the blades puts tremendous strain on the bracing
and possibly the bearings. Startup and responsiveness is slower
with too much weight. Lighter is better. As it is the weight
has gone up from the Gull 160.

@lynx how many air foil tips did you want? or need of the 1/16
...5052 aluminum..as i said that stuff is not cheap...but can do
it just leaves a sugar coat that has to be cleaned off..i'm
going to use them on the diy 175 gull kit
       hgl
also i have steel band strap but i need to paint white think i
will go back too SS as that was original..an this is heavier
beefed build....is that something you a have a solid dimension
for or is it fit to build for now..plum an square cause i can
have them cut , bent an hole punched which i plan to do on mine
i just did not know maybe@ sut would know a dimension an do you
attach both support straps threw single hole in rotor with lock
       nut washer..

       Hello friends. I've now have 1/4studs in my 3/8 spars(takes a
method) , and have been cutting blade tips from aluminum with
scissors. The scissors do not leave them perfectly flat. They
can be mostly flattened, but I've been considering using a jig
saw. Should I back the aluminum sheet with thin plywood , or can
a jig cut just the aluminum sheet without deforming?

Thin aluminum can be easily cut on a jig saw with a table,
unless it is too thin. I routinely cut 1/32" to 1/4" aluminum
on my jig saw with table. If it is a handheld jig saw, you will
need to support it in a sandwich of plywood.
If you can cut with scissors the aluminum is probably too thin
to be useful as a blade tip.

Is 1/32 aluminum too thin for tips. I'm reclaiming aluminum from
real estate sign. My scissors are nice cutco. I can cut pennies.
