How to - Single Phase stators
By: lynx wind Date: July 27, 2013, 10:30 pm

I did this video series on how to build three phase stators for
a 2 kw steam generator. The same would work for a single phase
or even a single plate 3 phase stator with a different magnet
layout. This particular project required three of these stators
offset for a big three phase alternator.
The mold is made from 1/2" HDPE which is a high molecular
plastic. Really no wax is required except for screw heads and
where wires might pass through. In fact waxing can cause a
problem on the finish of the urethane.
It is surprising just how much the copper coils will crush down.
These particular stators have 3.3 Lbs of copper each.
The hole in the middle is for cooling air to be drawn in through
the magnet rotors.

I'm always worried when "crushing" that I will scrape the
insulation off the wires when they slip past each other during
the crushing process, and short the coil out.
So this PMA will have three stators and four magnet disks?
I see you are using polyurethane now instead of polyester resin.
Any reason why?
My guess is the same reason I don't like using it,
..............the fumes.

I have used Epoxy, Urethane and Fiberglass resin. All have
virtues and drawbacks. I favor the Smooth-on brand Urethane now
because it is simple, cures fast and hard and is economical. It
is low viscosity like epoxy and is simple to mix.
