       Barrel gasifying steam generator

Lynx, I watched with keen interest your vids on the barrel
monotube gasifying steam gen. Could it be scaled within a 55'g
drum to 10 hp more or less? Your control circuit is very simple
and seems to work pretty well. Does your design share any
lioness to the ones built by the late Mr Wetz? Great stuff!
       Thanks for sharing your projects!

The barrel gasifier I made isn't the best thing at all. I
casually knew Mr Wetz from Berrien SACA steam meets. He was a
wonderful sharing genius. His boilers were funny looking but
       works of engineering art.
I have a better design and if you will seriously build a boiler
let me help you with a more efficient design that is still
possible as a DIY. You would need some sheet metal experience
       or help.
None of the boilers I make are high temp/pressure. I get
chastised for that by steam guys, but I don't like instructing
people to make boilers that can cause nasty burns or worse.
There are plenty of steam engines that run nicely on 40-100 psi.
Briefly, the better boiler design is
Self feeding wood hopper, rocket stove upburn in a double wall
insulated burn tube, impinging on a ceramic baffle, hot gases
turn down and through spiral coil banks (3/8", 5/16", 1/4"
sections) cooler exhaust exits bottom of monotube boiler and can
aid in warming air intake. No fan needed. RPM is affected by
amount of fuel, perfect for battery charging, not so good as a
       motive engine.

Wow! That is awesome that you were able to rub shoulders with
guys like Mr. Wetz! I have a fair amount if sheet metal
experience working with aircraft for 25+ years. The only
monotube experience I have hands on is rebuilding a "Hotsy"
brand 2.5 gpm hot water pressure washer a few years back that
had the "boiler" portion rotted out around the coil stack, which
we redid with stainless steel sheet. I watched all your YouTube
vids on steam power generation and the rocket burner you built
looks very interesting indeed! Your information and finding your
website and forum has me stoked about actually bringing some of
my long held dreams to reality in the future. I will get my feet
wet building the seagull75 and go forward one step at a time
from there. When I get geared for the steam generation phase of
my power plan I will surely be seeking your influence in what I
build. I do like your approach to steam, seems to me like a
very realistic, practical minded from how I see things, which is
what has me enthused about all the R n D that you have shared on
your site and YouTube. My sincerest thanks, and looking forward
to your success with your endeavours on the Mckenny vapor
       project as well!
