@LW how would you know if the wing sucked in on the flatter
sides you would never see it and when it stopped it would be
back to it's original shape ! I still think you can get away
with out any formers per say the top wing tip could be the top
former and the bottom one could just be the fiberglass used to
cover the rotor . when I covered my rotor with fiberglass I have
the wings in place above the rotor, I apply the resin then push
the blade down into it so its in the resin . You would have to
have something just to make sure it goes to the right spot and
is aligned perfectly but that could just be a former that's 1/8
inch or less Just thinking how to make it lighter and still be
strong

Another thought on this new one are you going to use the same
type of rotor made out of 1 piece of plywood or make it a 3
section, Its hard to find a 28" piece that's flat, little alone
a 36" piece unless you glue up your own like @CG did .

Good morning to all that enjoy seeing great wind !!!! I have a
question I have been watching my windmill just a spinning and
watching the amps and volts go up and down it starts charging my
battery at 7.50 v ac and is putting in .01 amps dc , at 10 v ac
its charging at .20 amps dc from the # can you tell me how
efficient my alternator is working or do you need the rpm of
windmill to tell that (which I do not know ) the battery was
sitting about at 12.58 v Just curious.

@SUT,
That sound perfect. Except you must have a really poor wind
location. Those numbers sound more reasonable for 9-12 mph
wind. Clear air is important. Straight line wind and as little
turbulence as possible. But I would say you have proved the
design and your alternator.

@ LW The reason I was asking is because of how uneven my stator
and my magnets are, they are good 1/8 plus away on one side
(just curious ) I know it works because it charges my battery.
@CG you should of had it out in all of this wind (scaredy cat
) LOL

My bearing tube is straight, I used a wooden plug to hold it
straight in the coupling (1 on each end ) but when I pored my
stator that's where I made the mistake . I really like this
setup! and it works as designed, its all poor judgment on my end
that caused troubles (as usual ) My next one will be a lot
better

Sometimes I adjust the rotor up higher off the stator to lower
voltage. If you want to get to 12 volts with a little higher
rpm this is a simple way to adjust voltage. If you want cutin
at lower rpm you adjust the rotor and magnets down close. If
your stator is misaligned with a single phase alt, some of the
coils will be producing less voltage than the others, but it is
additive so it doesn't cause a lot of problem with vibration.
There are three other ways to adjust voltage
1. thicker magnets
2. more turns on the coils
3. higher rpm
Another way to adjust voltage that requires making a new alt is
adding more coils and magnets. This increases the sine wave
frequency and is the most effective way to increase voltage with
a given rpm.
If your stator isn't flat, there isn't much you can do except
wait for more wind.

I found out when I made mine I was getting a lot of wobble from
the wood rotor, originally i had the bolt that the rotor spins
on going through the rotor and magnet plate . So what I did was
make the hole in the rotor (plywood) a 1 1/2 hole so the bolt
that holds the magnet plate never touches the rotor its just in
the magnet plate .

You have to look for a shop that sell steel , or talk to your
local machine shop, If I am not mistaken I think they may be
for sale here soon but don't hold me to that .

Screw them together and sand to a line on a sanding machine that
will hold parts square. I have a little Ryobi combo sander that
makes quick work of this.
