Happy,
I have done extensive testing with magnetic levitation. It is
very weight sensitive. A snow load, rain and/or ice will close
the gap between stator and magnet plate. I haven't found
anything more reliable than a single ball bearing running in an
oil bath.
On the US VAWT alternators I rested the entire weight on an
axial bearing and it wore out within a few months when it ran
dry.
Another advantage to the current design is that it is very easy
to service the hub if needed.
And another advantage to the current design is the load axially
on the bearings is evenly distributed because it is centered in
the spinning mass instead of out at a lever point.

i understand Lynx it is a good design :D no argument..just
experimenting.. stick with original design ;D i have seen many
designs, i'm sticking to yours... an playing outside the sand
box.. been working on lighter cheaper stronger 5/16" spar cheap
...quality one is $4.50 another is 6$ taking stress off former
loading it on spar an brace with a Mylar sheath as air foil an
aluminum going to test both an magnet levitation with fixed
stator... i just can't leave it alonenither could my dad :-\....
just playing..with an idea for that Haitian serpentine vawt
re-design. have 3 new spar designs double wall light aircraft
aluminum inside a poly-coated aluminum one or two pieces
/inserts.. ,fiberglass rod inserted in light aluminum
poly-coated an least but not last carbon, aluminum, pol triple
ply...all very very strong an light all have threaded inserts
with body washer an lock nut..
the green shaft part you see is polycoated aluminum shaft with
other inserts listed above.. ..

I am sure there are better materials and methods than I have
found thus far. But hopefully my mistakes and path can ease the
way forward.
Sometimes things I do are because of limitations, not that they
are best.
I have tried steel spars and aluminum spars. Both bend pretty
bad and don't return to shape. Something that gives and springs
back to shape is good.

that's exactly what these do they have"Spine" is the general
term for specifying the stiffness of the arrow/insert fiberglass
spar in terms of a matching draw-weight; the spine is derived
from a measurement ... ... i just stumbled across theses by
accident an said why not..they are my tomato stakes ???... an
they where hollow with aluminum wall ,so i cut it open an slip a
fiberglass rod inside... fit like a glove as did aluminum arrow
shaft.. an then i will use a bit of quick epoxy an glue inserts
in the ends..threaded rod/bolt ,nut ,body washer
when can we start to purchase à la carte? for 175 ?......i have
rotor arms, my former's cut out waiting to paint an drill
holes.. was going to make wings next week an back 1/4 " 9 "
steel plate..@lynx your the P/E in charge..! p/e= project
engineer just waiting on parts i have found osi quad as good
caulk, Eco-Bond 10.1 Oz.-Oz White Specialty Specialty Caulk
adhesive also locktite ....dap etc..

having to clean it all up..we waste to much in america... just
come see the mountains in my back yard...making methane.. i call

being a material recycling guy... i took an old dish washer
rack an turned it into a compact painting an drying storage
container.. works great when space is tight an conditions are
rapidly deteriorating with every tree an bush shedding seeds or
pollen an rain coming time to move indoors to finish.
