Just a quick update :-
Had my turbine spinning today with a southerly wind at about
10mph, switched on the NP booster which increased the charge
current (It held high charge for a while) until the wind dropped
slightly and noticed it dropped charge rapidly and would never
increase in speed.
All this indicated to me that the caps on the booster where too
large (220uf) and it was just getting ' stuck '.
Changed out the caps for 100uf caps and would you believe the
wind swung to a westerly and died completely, all this within
about 10 minutes so will the smaller caps be better ?....Time
will tell.

@ CG
Never played with diacs but I always thought they operated at
about 30+v ? (Don't know much about them really). I think that
if you get the caps just right for a particular turbine you are
on to a winner.
Wind has risen to a breeze and it appears the smaller caps have
done the trick for this turbine (Cuts in much earlier but does
not stall her)...Things are looking up !!!. :)

Well yes we had storms not much here (13 mph) but north and
south got some gusts of 50 mph so it may of hit you, but it was
a hit and miss kinda thing

Another update :-
We had about 15mph winds but she just does not want to speed up
too much(400 rpm)....Loaded her really heavy and she slowed way
down and gave much more watts but the TSR dropped way down (Too
much).
She seems to have lots of torque but not much speed.
I have come to the conclusion that the blades have too large
chord and causing too much drag for this size turbine. :-\

16mph-gusting 26mph today and she survived it but I must warn
everyone here....BALANCE THE ROTOR.... I forgot to do that and
thought my 2" aluminium pole was going to bend double !!! (Its
only 4' long !).
She is currently getting a beating out there with the wind that
is not set to let up anytime soon.

With higher solidity the pulsing can be severe. It may be just
balance but can also be the chord length compared to the small
diameter. You might try a higher battery voltage to allow for
higher rpms. Thank you for the reporting.

@CG
I ended up balancing the rotor on a pointed nail just above the
magnet plate and she was well out of balance, Lead flashing came
in handy for this.
Update:-
well she is getting a beating out there with 30+mph, best rpm I
have seen is 450rpm.
connected a 21w car lamp across AC terminals and it would light
about 1/2 brightness with no slowing of the turbine. Even on a
short circuit I cannot pull this turbine down to a slow speed.
I am convinced that the solidity is far too high for this size
turbine hence not letting the turbine get into lift mode.
I feel a new rotor and blade set creeping up on me. ::)
Here is a photo of results in a 20mph ish wind.

That is strange. A 21 watt car lamp if it is incandescent
should just about stall the turbine. A dead short in 30 mph
should slow it to about 40 -100 rpm. If your rpm is 450 it
works out to between 1.8 at 20 mph or 1.1 tsr in 30 mph. It
would be better if it was 1.5 - 2.8 tsr.
