       You have an idea for a new heat engine that still requires
       "fire". What about the heat engine they created using the spokes
       of the wheel connected to a crank and the spokes are nitinol
       wire? The heat differential required by that could be supplied
       by solar and geothermal. Solar for the heat geothermal for the
       cold.

       The engine I am developing is scalable from a few HP to
       megawatts.  The design is for capturing the tremendous amount of
       low grade waste heat thrown off by industry and also gathered
       from solar.  Anything throwing off 350 F or more will make
       power.
       I do know about the engine you are speaking of.  My aim is to do
       something with a bit more impact.  Right now we are in the
       Solidworks and Material Engineering phase.  The prototype works
       so we are onto larger engines and then manufacturing.

       You got it, that's all there is to it.......sort of.  It has to
       be very carefully tuned.  The regenerative steel wool has to be
       at just the right spot.  The piston has to be very free to move,
       and the heat has to be placed at the right spot.  The air
       expands, moves the piston and cools.  When the piston moves back
       it pushes air into the hot steel wool expanding again.  It
       oscillates at a particular frequency.  These are interesting but
       very difficult to get them to do work.

       These are super touchy machines.  They are working with a
       resonance as the air inside bounces back and forth.  Disrupt the
       resonance and it just stops.  You can find lots of video of
       these running, but few that power more than an LED.  There are
       lots of DIY instructional videos.  I have never had one that ran
       for more than a few minutes.
       Try getting one to run before you contemplate improvements.
       I have never had luck pulling power from floating pistons.  If
       they aren't sealed then the most direct route for pressure is
       around the piston.  Once that happens the engine doesn't run
       well.
       Check out Lidmotor's channel for his efforts at making stirling
       and acoustic engines power a load.  I trust him.  There are a
       lot of videos out there I don't trust as honest.

       You're finding some of the Stirling and Thermo-Acoustic examples
       of engines that do you work.  Anytime you can seal the piston
       the power is much better.  A piston on a diaphragm wont move
       much but will generate a lot more power.  NASA made a linear
       type that oscillated an alternator.  Really tough to make these
       work.  Hats off to these builders.
