@ HGL nice job on rotor looks like you have got it under control
Just remember you have 1 week with no wind after you put it up
       (its the curse )
@ CG yes I agree with your design on emt tower it makes it easy
to work on close to the ground when folded over ! Much better
than standing on a 8' step ladder . So many spring projects
going on at one time hard to pick which comes first but at least
I got windmill done. I plan on moving it to a 2nd home soon to
       get more wind!

       @CG  8)
I weighed the diy 75 and with magnet plate it was 13 lbs I have
not taken down the 175 yet but it sure spins easily! I don't
think it will be as responsive to wind change like diy 75
       because of the weight

@ HGL I used goop on gluing it all together and it seems to hold
great ! But I also have used 5 min. epoxy and so far its held up
great on the diy 75 but you have to make sure you scuff up the
aluminum to give it more bight .
I used fender washers /body washers they are just big washers
with small hole so they don't get pulled into wood when you
tighten (as bad ) But since your making 1 piece rotor you wont
need as many to hold magnet plate to rotor

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a six coil alt could be three
phase. Two coils per phase. Right?

       @Otis
There are many combinations you can use but the most popular
       would be...
6 coils and 8 magnets will work as a 3 phase system.
9 coils and 12 magnets as 3 phase too.
6 coils and 6 magnets = single phase.
6 coils and 12 magnets = single phase but more magnetic flux.
If you overlap coils then there are even more combinations.
Hope this helps answer your question.

Yes, the idea is for a 12 magnet plate and some experimenting
with a 3 phase or single phase alt design. I have had good
results from both, but the 3 phase design seems to hit battery
voltage like a head on collision. Whereas the single phase
comes in softer and the rpm range is broad before stall. I
       still favor the single phase.
The purpose of these experiments is to document the performance.
The plans will show both options for single and three phase.
On epoxy. The only place the Seagull uses Epoxy is for the
studs in the spars and spar joins. Epoxy is rigid and
inflexible and shouldn't be used on the blades which take a lot
of stress. You will want a adhesive that can flex, take
weather, UV and not become brittle. SUT is experimenting with a
siding adhesive that is easy to get and shows a lot of promise.

got my steel plates today! been waiting for weather to break
...so i can drill an paint ..i'm thinking about cutting a
another rotor arm too... i got 3/4 ply to straighten again after
i warped.... dry then humidity is intolerable with wood tired of
flipping like pancakes ..have to do something ....make another
rotor arm an former's all have to do is pre-drill an paint
have 9"plate...6"plate was going to be for Haitian serpentine
but i think coil's are still better will 3/4 ply work for a 75
kit? or small Haitian or is it to heavy @lynx i don't want to
wast the wood... ... looks like nice weather coming been
cleaning garage donating to purple heart.next week spring
cleaning lord have i been a slacker due to illness..

Attached here is the hole pattern for the Seagull 175 magnet
plate. Normally these disks are powder coated before applying
magnets. I would recommend the disks be painted to protect
       against rust.

thx. lynx your exactly right was not paying attention to details
oop's my bad.. :-\,one project at a time..these were made
before, i saw the powder coat process you described..from the
first post description ..so much to learn... so little time..i
will see if i can get a powder coat , my understanding is they
are sand blasted chemically cleaned then sprayed with a polymer
an baked in an oven. my cousin works near you in a body shop
maybe he can do them..i will get it corrected..
