       Ahha!  I figured out why the heavier gauge wire doesn't work as
       well for the LJL.  It is very difficult without simultaneously
       winding primary and secondary to get the coils to intermingle
       enough.  If one heavy gauge primary is just laid on top a
       secondary it is as if the turns ratio is closer to 1:1 rather
       than 6.8:1
       I guess any gauge wire will work if the two coils can
       intermingle enough.
       I got my 20 awg coil working fine once I seated them tighter
       together.
       A ferrite placed around the two coils helps too, but its best to
       get the aircore coil working first.

       I was going to try that but I just have not had the time! or
       knowledge!! to tell the difference on whether it was better or
       not  besides mine is all mucked up now laying in pieces on bench

       So what I am finding is that a smaller gauge secondary is a
       benefit because it can be fluxed better by the primary being in
       closer proximity.  The first LJL-sc I made I sent to Laser
       Saber.  His comment was it worked better than the typical
       aircore and many of the ferrite core.  I assumed it was
       something about the 4" diameter and tight coil.  It was a 30 awg
       and 26 awg coil.  Now I think it performed well because it is
       very nearly saturated much like a ferrite core.
       I will experiment with some various sizes of 30 awg and 24 awg
       coils.  We have to make sure the primary can handle up to 4
       amps.
       I would recommend if you guys make these you wind them tightly
       and bind them into as thin a coil as possible.  It may be
       possible to lose the ferrite and get back to a simple coil and
       transistor.
       We should also experiment with the diameter and number of turns.
