Think you would need something bigger than a football pitch
       field for that one !!!!
Tomboy all finished and balanced now but no paint, They are
promising 7mph winds and sunny on Wednesday so its maiden flight
       is imminent.
Got my plastic bag ready for the "Walk of shame". ;D

Send before and after pics. Just kidding.
The Tomboy flies itself and if you give it too much rudder will
swing like a pendulum. Just ease it. If it's balanced right it
will climb with power. If it climbs too much with power give it
more downthrust. Mine has about 2.5 degrees downthrust and is
       docile.
If it ever warms up and stops snowing here I can get some video
       of the planes.
I redrew the TomKat today as more closely resembling a 3D
Tomboy. The difference is the upturned wingtips and stabilizer
are elliptical and it has more wing area. Otherwise setup
       similar.

       Tomboy Maiden....
Well I finally got outside at about 3pm but the wind was about
10-12mph and thought `I am going for it`, It was just flipped
about all over the place but did get it about 10ft up at one
stage.....I gave up at this point.
7pm came and the wind was very slight so out I go again before
it got too dark. I got it in the air but it was not very
controllable (Think it is a little tail heavy). Just one more
try.....already hit the ground a number of times by this time,
it set off and immediately shot up in the air and banked over to
the left and POW..... Somersaulted on the grass.
       Don't think I am a RC pilot yet ;D
Well I did not get any before pictures but I got some after
shots, 1 picture shows the nose section that has parted from the
bulkhead on one side which I think was the cause of the left
       hand bank.

       Thanks for the pics.
Are you sure that plane is balanced? It looks like it would be
nose heavy. If the plane glides it will fly. Better to glide
test the crap out of it until it glides well. My Tomboy
balances right at the bend in the airfoil. The stab is
completely level with two fingers holding at that point.
The Tomboy wont need full power. If you give the plane too much
power the torque will roll it left and it will spiral in. Add
right thrust to counter this tendency and ease off on the
throttle. Check that you don't have twist in the wings. Set
the plane level on a table with the stab measured equal to the
table top. Now measure TE and LE of each wing to table top.
They should be close to equal. Adjust as needed.
Glue it back together and don't make it pretty. You want this
ugly duck to fly and to learn on. Also, make sure to put a few
bamboo picks through the bulkhead and into the fuse as
       strengtheners.

I have done the repairs to my plane and checked balance and it
still needs a little weight up front, I must have a lighter
       running gear than yours (Lynx).
Decided I needed to get some experience with using the controls
of a radio to get the feeling of orientation so decided to buy a
very small Quad copter with a built in camera, When I say small
I mean small with a all up weight of 38 grams and a size of
about 6". You can land this thing on your hand + you can also
fly these things in the house which makes it ideal for me.
Here is a video of my first ever outdoor flight of the Hubsan X4
(h107c) minus all the crashes ha ha !

That is awesome. Looks so stable, it must hover very well. I
love seeing your area and I am jealous of all that open terrain
       and soft green grass. Beautiful.
Its barely spring here, but the snow is gone and the trees are
budding. I haven't had the chance to go flying yet. I need my
co-pilot (son) to video and take the controls while I do the
camera work. Pretty hard to fly and video at the same time. I
have that little key fob camera, but I want video of the plane
       too.

Yeah it hovers great, its the operator that has the itchy
       fingers. ;D
It has been a fantastic learning curve flying this thing but
still got to learn to yaw it and not loose orientation, video
playback is great too to see where you go wrong. I used to be a
thumb controller but now I have converted to a finger pincher on
the controls and found it much easier.
Spring seems to have arrived early here, Lambs are been born in
the crofts and the grass is starting to grow now.
Video from both ground and from the plane would make a fantastic
video, Not sure what editing software you use but the use of
'picture in picture' would make the video look great.

Newest Toy. P51D made from one sheet of Dollar Tree foamboard.
I was surprised that all up weight came in at just under 6 oz.
In the 1990's I made a plane like this with rudder only control
and it flew great. Just had to baby it around turns. The plans
are posted at the website www.oldguyrc.com
I was also surprised that it was so easy to balance with no
added weight. Changes from scale are larger tail surfaces, wing
enlarged 20%, moved higher and forward. The wing is also a high
lift undercamber design for very slow flight. It will go fast
and climb, but at low throttle it will cruise.
