Re: LJL-Xsc

@Lynx
Best wishes for the holidays.
I am having problems with my circuit build. I hand wound on a 2
liter plastic soda bottle the primary and secondary( not are
tight and clean as i would ave liked), i am using a 2n3055 with
no diode. I was conducting my testing using a 2 watt no name
brand led bulb and a 9v battery with no problem.
The Eco smart bulbs i ordered arrived a few days ago and when i
tried both the 6 watt and 10 watt Eco Smarts they did not work,
only the no name brand seems to work.
I was wondering if my coils are the problem, namely if turns of
the primary are mingled with turns of the secondary can it
affect the circuit performance?
Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.
Thanks
Andre

No, it's fine if the coils intermingle. A good ratio of turns
is 100 secondary turns to 14 primary turns. Lots of things can
go wrong, check all connections, that the connections are
correct in orientation, the the socket the bulb is in works....
The other day I was testing a couple new circuits and I was
baffled. One of my test leads had pulled away from its soldered
clip.
The circuit is very simple. It just transforms the on off 9-12
volt DC to a higher voltage spike (about 84 volts) and the
flyback voltage while not much amperage is very high.
Trouble shoot one thing at a time to rule out each. Sometimes
its the simplest and most obvious thing you assume is good. It
can also be the battery is low. Much below 7 volts and it wont
work.
Merry Christmas

@Lynx,
I am still trying.
I have now made three different coils (Primary 14 turns
Secondary 100 turns) and only my no name brand led bulb works.
CFLs and my Daylight Ecosmart 6 watt do not work .
The fact that the circuit works with the led bulb tells me that
my coils are correct, if i tried a lower number of Primary turns
i assume that i would get a higher voltage spike greater that 85
volts am i correct?
I am going also hoping to source another 2n3055 to try
replacing the transistor to see if that makes a difference.
I will keep you updated.
Thanks
Andre

@CG
Thanks for the input it is much appreciated, i only have two
2n3055 transistors and they cost a mint here, i think that i
have come to your conclusion either i have the connections
messed up or my transistor is faulty.
Could you kindly just review my very crude drawing ( created
with my track pad) and offer your comments.
Best
Andre

You have it wired correctly. Make sure you identify the base
pin correctly or you will fry the transistor. These always work
so it has to be something very simple. I am sorry the
transistors are not cheap where you live. I could send you some
by mail if you like.
LaserSaber recently showed how to improvise a transistor using a
piece of carbon and a wire lightly touching it. Look him up on
YouTube.

Guys,
I tried changing around the primary coil leads as advise by CG
without success.
I was wondering if my identification of the Base and Emitter on
the transformer are incorrect.( my assumption is that the Base
is on the left and the Emitter is on the right oriented with
the shorter distance from the end opening.
I will try tomorrow with my last remaining transistor.
Lynx I would be very interested in buying some transistors from
you if possible.
I will advise and update tomorrow on my progress.
Thanks
Andre

That is correct if viewed from bottom looking at pins.
The only other thing I can think is that your wire may be too
heavy. I remember winding with 20 awg and having the circuit
run very very hot. What gauge wire are you using?
I did wind a very large LJL once with heavy wire but it had
something like 600 turns 20 awg secondary and about 70 turns 12
awg primary. It ran very well but was a waste of wire.

I have built three different coils so far, i am not sure what
the wire gauges are but using telephone cat 5 cable as a
reference:
Coil 1
Primary very thick , about 2 times the size of telephone wire.
Secondary about the size of telephone wire.
Coil 2
Primary and Secondary both the size of telephone wire.
Coil 3
Primary and Secondary about half the size of telephone wire
All coils are 14 primary 100 turns secondary.

@CG,
Comments appreciated, i actually feel a bit silly asking these
simple questions as i have gone over this stuff millions of
times.
But I am a very far distance from you guys and also from
economically priced components.
For example the 2n3055 sells here for about 20.00 US, but at
Radio Shack in the USA for 2.50.
I am right now making a new coil with different connecting wire
and a different light socket and my LAST 2n3055.
So say a little pray for me guys.
Will update soonest.
Best
Andre

@CG,
Thanks a million for the video that makes a big difference!
I found some wire on an old transformer coil which i will be
using for my coils.
I will be working later tonight and into the morning on this
one, so by tomorrow i will be offering an update .
I truly appreciate your assistance and efforts on my behalf.
Stay tuned...
Andre
