If it's a reference to the RPG "Grandia 2", it makes sense; I
think Ryudo referred to himself in the third person after
reading a book in St. Heim's Library.
Speaking of which, does Newerth canonically have cathedrals?

Is Xyz optional? I couldn't battle Aidan until after beating
Xyz... O.o
Also, I like how S.D. has different dialogue later on :)
But, is that her only appearance? :(
And, how would Nemedia work if the player had it? (Level-wise, I
mean.)

Xyz is supposed to be mandatory. So if somehow it isn't, that's
a major bug, guys...
And yes, Ilina is Serenity's big sister. The true final boss
will reveal that fact!
