Probably.
I generally go for thief where possible.
It's my favourite video game class, generally.
Failing that, assassin (or whatever's the closest equivalent).

As for me, I have a preference for Warrior/Knight/Paladin
classes.

I would like to be a warrior, or any class that can duel-wield
shortswords.

There aren't any classes that use poison gas, I think, so I
prefer ones who wield one katana.
With that said, I would love it if we got a Dragon Quest that
takes place in a more futuristic world.

More swords. Neat. That said, Dragon Quest Monsters Joker is
somewhat close to that premise, though a more futuristic Dragon
Quest would be best kept for a spin-off.

Dragon Quest XIII: A Future to the Past
Starring a big bad named Xehanort, his council of 13 evil
councilors, and a plot focusing on time travel between a high
tech future world and an ancient historic world, in an effort to
revive the proper history of the world.
Oh, and gas mask bunny girls in opaque tights and evening
gloves.
