Dust flew in all directions as the large stone door was
forced aside, landing with a resounding crash on the cobblestone
floor just to the side of the doorway. A group of eight Church
hunters carefully made their way into the musky room; their two
mages quickly casting a few Continual Light spells around the
room in order to give the group full visibility. The crypt that
this particular squad was investigating had been recently
uncovered only a few minutes' walk from the capital. How such a
place had remained hidden for so long was uncertain, however,
Church leadership had immediately deigned to send in a team of
hunters to search the ruins. Thus far the hunters' had found
precisely naught; not even undead such as skeletons that were
typical of crypts or similar ruins.
The current room the hunters found themselves in was also the
final one to explore within the crypt, located in the deepest
depths of its tunnels. Yet in spite of this the room was all but
barren. Only a single object existed within the room; an
ancient-looking coffin. Old chains were tightly bound across the
coffin from top to bottom and, upon closer inspection by the
mages, clearly emanated latent magical energy. It seemed quite
clear to even the most casual observer that the chains were
enchanted with magic. The purpose of said magic, however, was
much less certain. While the obvious presumption was to keep
something bound within the age of the crypt made such an
estimation uncertain at best.
Looking between his team, the leader of the expedition, Knight
Halsin, sheathed his sword and let out a heavy sigh. "I can't
believe we spent the last two hours searching every inch of this
dusty old place and all we have to show for it is some strange
coffin. Mages-" Halsin paused, turning his attention to the two
casters of his team. "Do you think you can break the magic on
these chains? I'd like to have a look inside of this coffin,
find out if there's some accursed undead resting within that
needs banished." In response to their leader's request, both
magi went to get a closer inspection of the coffin & its chains.
A few minutes of silence passed, filled with nothing other than
the low hum of the two mages utilizing magic to examine the
magic enveloping the chains. After seemingly coming to a
conclusion the mage closer to Knight Halsin turned and spoke.
"Yes sir, we should have no problem removing these chains.
Normally I wouldn't be so certain, but thankfully this coffin
must have been here for quite some time. The magic placed upon
the chains has greatly eroded over time." This response clearly
pleased Knight Halsin, who drew his sword from its scabbard once
more. "Excellent! Then do so at once. As for the rest of you, be
at the ready! If there is an undead creature lurking within this
coffin it may potentially be capable of attacking the moment the
lid is opened!" At their leader's orders all five other members
of the Church hunter squad drew their weapons & formed a circle
around the coffin while the two mages began their work.

The crypt room was a murmur of hushed breaths and
anxious glances while the two magi slowly worked at the
enchanted chains. A number of minutes passed before, finally, a
loud clanking sounded through the room as the chains all snapped
off & fell to the floor. Their job now finished, both mages
stepped behind the circle of soldiers for protection. At the
same time one of the larger men stepped forward. He lay his axe
on the wall next to the coffin in order to place both hands on
the lid. The Church hunter quickly discovered the heavy stone to
weigh much more than he'd anticipated, and the man was forced to
put his full strength into the task. In spite of this, however,
only a few moments would pass before the lid would slide off
onto the floor. Unfortunately, it was this exact moment that
everything went wrong.
As the man who had opened the lid turned to pick his axe up off
of the wall a hand suddenly shot up from the coffin. The hand
grabbed the Church hunter by the shoulder and, with utterly
overwhelming strength, forced him to bend over the coffin.
Before any of his allies could react the man let out a shrill
scream as he felt two sharp fangs pierce into his neck. Suddenly
shook from their stupor by their comrade's cries, the remainder
of the hunters rushed forwards to free the man from the unknown
creature's clutches. Before any could take more than three
steps, however, a blast of raw magical energy came rippling from
the coffin. This energy forced all in attendance, even the
mages, to the ground with an overwhelming pressure preventing
them from standing once more. Forced to merely watch from their
position on the ground the other seven watched in horror as all
life quickly left their comrade's eyes. After only a few short
moments the man's limb body was thrown aside, slamming into the
wall with a sickening crunch as seemingly every bone in his body
shattered on impact; sealing his fate.
Just as suddenly as it had came the hunters felt the pressure
binding them in place evaporate into nothingness. As the group
hastily found their footing once more they bore witness to the
creature before them standing up from within the coffin at the
same time. Before them stood what was very clearly a woman,
albeit a tiny one. She couldn't have been even five feet tall,
with striking white hair and incredibly pale skin. However, what
caught everyone's attention were the practically glowing crimson
eyes staring back at them. Even among both the supernatural and
undead there was only one creature who could lay claim to
crimson eyes, and every single hunter knew exactly what they
were dealing with. A foe that, sudden magical burst aside, they
were woefully unprepared to face. Knight Halsin immediately gave
the only viable order.
"Vampire! All forces retreat!" With that one simple command the
entire group of Church hunters immediately made their way back
to the singular door which gave entry to the coffin's room.
Curiously, the vampire made no attempt to chase. Instead it
merely stood in place, watching, as the group exited the room
and placed the stone door back into its original place. "Mages,
erect a holy barrier on this door. Expend every ounce of your
mana if need be, I do not want this monster capable of breaking
through this door!" The order from Knight Halsin proved utterly
unnecessary, as both magi had already begun to do exactly that
before the man had even opened his mouth. A number of stressful
moments passed before both mages nearly collapsed to the ground,
panting heavily.
This time the individual to speak was the singular woman of the
team, a black-haired woman carrying a sword in her left hand & a
dagger in her right. "How long will that barrier hold against
the creature? That wave of magic it sent out felt exceptionally
powerful, I couldn't even stand until it relented." After taking
a few moments to catch their breath the two magi seemed to
mentally calculate before one gave an answer. "We both put all
that we had into that barrier, even an elder vampire would take
roughly two hours to whittle it down enough to break through.
Even if we assume this monster is stronger than that it should
hold for at least an hour. More than enough time to return with
a group of Paladins from headquarters." At that, Knight Halsin
gave a sharp nod and smacked the pommel of his sword against his
shield in order to get the attention of his six remaining
comrades. "Good. That is exactly what you all will do. Squire
Behril, I'm putting you in command. Return to headquarters and
inform them of the situation then return with Paladins capable
of vanquishing the creature. I will remain here just in case the
beast somehow manages to break through the barrier. In the worst
case I may at least hold it at bay long enough for the Paladins
to arrive." While their commander's decision clearly left the
others uneasy they made no attempt to question him. Instead,
Vivian simply gave a single nod of her head before immediately
breaking out into a sprint towards the exit of the crypt. At the
same time, Knight Halsin bore both his sword & shield at the
ready facing the door to the coffin room, bracing himself for
the potential of the door to open at any moment.

Only a few moments after the humans fled the room she felt a
magical barrier be erected around the door. Even in her confused
& delirious state it was clear that it was meant to keep her
locked inside. Beyond that, however, she had little idea what
was going on. Closing her eyes and taking a moment to focus on
her foggy memories, she thought back to the last thing she could
recall. "Let's see.... I remember attending that stupid gala.
Esther practically begged me to give the speech, then I had a
few drinks and everything goes dark.... Oh **** me! Of course
that snake would do something like this. So jealous for my title
that she'd poison me only to lock me in some crypt. After a few
moments of self-loathing the vampire let out a heavy sigh and
re-focused her attention on the door in front of her. "Focus,
Lenore, focus. Esther can be dealt with later. For now, I need
to get the hell out of here and figure out where, and when, I
am."
Lenore walked up to & placed her hand upon the stone door,
feeling a relatively faint holy aura surrounding it. Immediately
the vampire was confused. Even in her stupor from awakening
she'd noticed the presence of two separate mages within the
human group. Such a weak barrier being the product of the
combined efforts of two casters seemed incredibly unlikely to
her. "Hmm. It must be some kind of suppression magic concealing
the true power of the barrier. Or perhaps it was made
intentionally weak in order to trigger a secondary spell hidden
beneath the first. Regardless I don't really have the luxury of
circumventing it." True to her comment, she merely ensured that
her warding magic was properly in place before placing her hand
against the stone once more. "Implosion." The incantation done,
the spell immediately channeled into the door; causing it to
shatter into countless tiny pieces. While Lenore was surprised
when no secondary magic activated upon the barrier's
destruction, she immediately took note of the bewildered-looking
human standing a few feet across from her.
The man was the one who had given the order for the humans to
retreat upon the realization that she was a vampire. Another
strange occurrence to Lenore's mind. A group of properly armed &
trained warriors should be confident enough to attack a typical
lone vampire. Of course, she was anything but a typical vampire,
but the woman doubted these humans had any way of knowing such a
thing. Regardless; she still needed more blood after draining
that human man dry. The level to which her thirst had grown did
leave Lenore worrying for just how long she'd been sealed within
this crypt. However, for the time being she brought her focus
onto the human before her that was barring her path. In an
instant she'd lunged forward, swatting the man's blade to the
floor and forcing his head aside to bear his throat. By the time
the human's brain had caught up & realized what was happening
her fangs had already sunk into his flesh. It was then only a
short few moments before she let his corpse fall to the ground,
the vampire's hunger finally sated. As she had no idea how long
it would take the other humans to return with more of their
fellows Lenore wasted no time, immediately making her way to the
crypt's exist. Once outside the large amount of light in one
directly painted a clear picture of a major city and, as such,
she darted off into the night in the opposite
direction.
