Nests in south wales

Hi, Erny here :o
I started my university travel break back in september but only
found my first real encounter as december rolled in. I was in
cardiff at the time, the best place to see them is near a place
called heath park. A little gloomy considering all the people
that seem to have gone missing there over the last three years.
If you plan on doing a late night visit I suggest taking a
friend with you.

They're a darker sort, long beaks, thick dark red wings. They're
few in number but strong and healthy/well fed. A couple of the
brighter coloured ones unfortunately were cought by other
predators. The nest, however, remained hidden. Perhaps you will
be lucky and find where they are.

they sound like the ones i photographed in hereford, single of
double central beaks, drab reds and blacks.
the males are very palid.
i hadnt thought they were this common

From what I've seen on my recent travels there are far more
lately than there have been in many decades.

I used to live in Cardiff in the 80s. The place was over run
with birds with bright plumage. A friend and I found some of the
nests that were scattered about and did some watching. The
darker ones never show their beaks and seem to be fed by the
younger, braver types that don't seem to know any better.
Naturally the braver the bird, the more careless and they all
died out in the spring. Never did find the main nest, that would
have been a sight to see.
We had thought it'd been an old cinema they'd been hidden away
in but after you half burn a place to cinders it's hard not to
rule it out. I think it was the Park Hall Theater? Not a clue
what's there now.
