One for Kerry

I notice Kerry that you state there were 70 trees in Eden, where
does this come from and why is it important?
I did not ask on the other site as I did not want to distract
the thread.
I also see you link it to the souls going into Egypt!
This is not just for Kerry so if you feel you have something to
share go for it.

I cannot find the place I found in the Talmud. I did find this
however in a piece by Rabbi David Cooper
HTML http://rabbidavidcooper.com/cooper-print-index/2010/11/7/2367-the-art-of-learning-torah.html:
The mystery of saying the Shema prayer (Shema Yisra-el, Ado-noy
Elo-haynu, Ado-noy Ehad--Hear, Oh Israel, the Lord is Our God,
the Lord is One) is that it draws a beam of light from a hidden
supernal world and divides it into seventy lights, representing
the seventy nations of creation. Those lights become luminous
branches of the Tree of Life. When the seventy branches are
illuminated, this Tree and all other trees in the Garden of Eden
emit sweet odors, perfume which prepares all the polarities to
unite into the Divine Oneness.
I also found this in an article about trees
HTML http://www.jewishveg.com/schwartz/quotationsontrees.html.
I
agree with this Rabbi completely.
4. And they came to Elim, where were 12 springs of water and 70
palm trees; and they encamped here by the waters. (Deuteronomy
15:27) Rabeynu Bachya saw a much deeper message. He stated that
the 12 springs represented the 12 tribes and the 70 palm trees
represented the 70 then nations of the world. He stated that
just as the 12 springs nourished the 70 palm trees, the 12
tribes (the Jewish people) should serve to "nourish" the world
by serving as a good example.
The seventy souls of Israel that went into Egypt show the same
message as does the seventy members of the Sanhedrin. Members
of the Sanhedrin often spoke foreign languages. It's said that
Mordecai was a member of the Sanhedrin and spoke Persian. How
else could he understand what was being said?
As I read the Gospels, the seventy who went to preach to Israel
were meant to organize Israel so they would be converted and
then go forth into the seventy nations.
We see this one-to-one correspondence of seventy nations to
seventy objects; but there is another type of correspondence too
where the numbers of Israel are calculated and then "job
assignments" given to them based on the numbers and how they
relate to the numbers of Gentiles in the seventy nations. That
is hard to see in this section of Genesis; and many people think
it means the division of continents. There was no Israel at
this point; but note is being taken of the numbers of Gentiles.
Genesis 10:25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one
was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his
brother's name was Joktan.
Genesis 10:32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, after
their generations, in their nations: and by these were the
nations divided in the earth after the flood.
At that point there were seventy nations, and when Israel went
into Egypt, each soul that went into Egypt had his job as
intercessor for one nation. When Israel came out of Egypt,
Moses counted the people, and each tribe, subtribe and family
got his job. Then Moses tells us that before, generations
before, God had divided the earth according to the number of the
children of Israel.
Deuteronomy 32:7 Remember the days of old, consider the years of
many generations: ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy
elders, and they will tell thee.
8 When the Most High divided to the nations their inheritance,
when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the
people according to the number of the children of Israel.
Jew cannot enter the kingdom alone, and neither can the Gentile.
They go in together. If we understand Genesis properly, we see
that Paul was right -- he has to be right -- when he says the
two go in together. It is only when the seventy trees in Eden
are part of the Tree of Life -- all connected -- that the object
of Eden will have been fulfilled.
Another way of looking at it is that the Tree of Life has
seventy branches. These are spiritual truths, not physical
facts.
The offspring of Adam -- and then later of Noah -- were to
spread over the earth. They were to become different, unique,
varied. The offense at Babel was wanting to stay in one spot
and try to reach Heaven by being all the same -- like the bricks
they made. Bricks are uniform. They're easy to build with.
But bricks are boring and bricks when used to build altars to
God are an abomination.
There are the original souls in the Book of Life -- the original
Israel. Then there are the countless souls before the throne.
The whole purpose of Israel was the redemption of the Gentiles.
If you can see that there were seventy trees in Eden, that
purpose stands out from the beginning.

Thank you Kerry.
I shall have to read this a couple of times as well as go back
to the book and reread it again.
I like the "both go in together" that is well worth chewing on!

The whole purpose of Israel was the redemption of the
Gentiles.[/quote]
I think I like that, and must keep the thought churning over.
