Commodities

What is the world's most precious commodity? Oil, silver, gold??
I believe it is the human race. Somebody might say "duh" to
this, while somebody else might say "huh?"
I had difficulty believing this - it took a word from God to
straighten me out. I then realized that I need to stop watching
TV news, because it is there, within a half hour time-frame,
they throw out every man-made tragedy for every given day, and
then they repeat it over and over and over.
Naturally, with 7 Billion of us now inhabiting this planet,
there's bound to be humanitarian catastrophe, and much evil
among people everywhere - but we should be reminded of our true
value in spite of all this. When I reflect on the words of some
good old Christmas Carols like "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", I
think how the writers of those songs actually got it!

Good thoughtful post Dave. After people, I think WATER.
I so agree with you on " The News." It is two years since I
watch what they call the News...it's all bad news!!
I started to 'get a clue' when I read Frank Peretti's book 'The
Prophet' about TV News
That was the first time my eyes were opened to it being "a
sensational show" and a grab to catch audiences, true or
not...it is all about "the spin".
I read the book years ago..but only two years ago gave up on the
news. It depressed me.
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever
things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things
are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of
good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise,
think on these things.

Interesting that commodities is the title of the thread.
Overpopulation seems to lead to the diminishment of the labor
value, and, ultimately, economic power of the average person.
Given how one relates to society is based upon one's labor,
there must be an eventual loss of humanity.
Perhaps this was what it was like in Christ's time, the
population supply of the Roman Empire reached a certain point,
it was disposable and so treated accordingly by its rulers.
Overpopulation + Commodity value of human life = diminishment of
labor value = loss of humanity (slavery or death)? Something to
think about.

Hi there
Personally I think the Overpopulation thing is a bunch of old
crock. There is no overpopulation of the earth. Even in England
from where I come there are thousands and thousands of acres of
beautiful green fields and forrests. People have overpopulated
the towns and cities..but the world itself is still pretty much
empty on every continent.
I think we have been sold a lemon. Just like oil, which here in
Calgary Alberta they cap the oil wells, then says 'we have
none'. Any shortage of wheat, livestock etc...is all man made.
I believe there is enough oil in the world to last til Jesus
comes.
But...that is just how I see things. :)
There are too many people behind the curtain pulling the strings
and moving the pawns around the board...and we fall for their
stories every time.

^Yes, definatley there are people pulling strings and trying to
make it look like someone else is doing the definable statements
of those in power. Sometimes its someone in the government,
and sometimes someone in business's. Wherever power bases
exist there are puppet masters with leadings from satan to bring
about the downfall of mankind in return for personal power.
But hasnt it always been so? Has it changed more so, or is it
just that the media picks up on it more, but only against the
puppet masters of the other camp?

If I was a rich person running an international corporation and
I could replace all the human jobs with robots, I could make
things cheaper than anyone else since I wouldn't have to pay
workers. People would buy my things since they were cheaper,
so I could put the competition out of business. I could
charge less for my things and still make more money than the
people with human workers.

I think the greatest 'commodity' is contentment, and the
greatest 'red herring' is so called 'growth'.
But the truth of that requires a deeper treatise on economics
and the evil of 'capitalism' than I care to attempt right now.
Suffice it to say that 'growth' ignores the fact that it can
only be at the expense of whoever is at the bottom of the chain
(usually some poor inhabitant of what we call a 'third world'
country)
Capitalism means identifying an unsatisfied need and charging
vastly more than its cost in order to satisfy that need.
That's 'greed' in direct opposition to 'contentment'.
Think it through.

Good thoughts all --- I especially like what you said about
contentment Mike; our flesh is constantly wanting more, and that
is a battle I personally have yet to win. Yet I am surprised
that just because I called this "Commodities", it put you all in
the trench of "Economics" in one way or another (less so you
Helen). The power of a single word, eh?
I said the "human race" because God is constant in His
requirement of paying the cost of redemption -
Luke 22:19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and
gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you:
this do in remembrance of me. 20 Likewise also the cup after
supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which
is shed for you.
Rev. 11:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness,
and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings
of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our
sins in his own blood, 6 And hath made us kings and priests
unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever
and ever. Amen.
--- we must be of great value - the very greatest!
Since I too have stopped watching TV news, I had no idea that
Malaysia is having extreme monsoon flooding, and my best friend,
who is a teacher over there, along with his wife, lost
everything they own, with water right up to the roofs of a lot
of houses, including theirs. But they are safely here in Canada
for the holidays, so they're OK.
