       Old Books

       ---------------------------------------------------------
I downloaded on my iPad a book of all the forbidden books of the
original new testamant. ( they have so many free books on
       there!!)
The first one is Mary. It doesn't read at all like "bible
       reading" to me...very clipped.
Have you read any of them? Knowing you, probably all of them
       haha!
I was reading along about Mary's parents and how she was
prophesied to be born 'the virgin' etc etc...then it said "
..there was a voice from the ark and mercy seat "etc etc
This surprised me...I was sure that the ark of the covenant was
not around by the time Jesus came on the scene!! To my mind it
vanished in 2 Chronicles 35 and was never spoken of again. Not
sure if it went into Babylon captivity or what.
SOoo right there I feel like chucking out the " book of Mary" on
those grounds. I can see why it was not included in the bible!!
What do you think of these Books?

       Helen,
I read most of them. Like you, I could see why most of them
were not included in the Bible.
You are talking about "The Gospel of the Birth of Mary
  HTML http://www.sacred-texts.com/bib/lbob/lbob05.htm"?

The idea of Mary living in the Temple as a virgin is still
around, by the way. It's complete nonsense. There was never an
order of virgins like that. Someone unfamiliar with Jews but
familiar with how nuns lived wrote that. This book was not
accepted as part of the canon; but it still seems to influence
what people think. I've had Catholics try to convince me that
the Bible itself teaches such an order of women existed. They
       quoted this:
1 Samuel 2:22 Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons
did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that
assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Surely they were there. The priests were supposed to go out to
serve them. They were outside. Eli's sons corrupted this.
When the Temple was built, the women did not wander about the
whole Temple. They stayed in the Court of Women.
Those books are interesting to read however since they show how
varied people's beliefs were and how casual they were about
writing things and pretending they were real.

The books that are not included as cannon are many, I have only
read about a dozen or so. Some seem of God and some seem trash
that were written to gather followers to the writers specific
faith. I hadnt read the one you spoke of, but it sounds like
it was written by a overly devout Mary worshiper. I also read
some of the gospel of thomas and it didnt sound right in my
       spirit.

       I "plodded-on" with a few more of the books tonight..I don't
find them very inspiring even though I am trying to read them
with an open mind. I will keep going and see if I can find any
'gems'...but I am not holding my breath...tonight I wondered why
I was doing it, I would probably find some novel more
       entertaining!! LOL
Even the apocrypha was much more intersting and better than
       these. :)
